Does anybody have a Gallien Krueger Fusion 550 they could bring? Been desperate to try one of these!!!
-
Hey everyone, I am somewhat obsessed with this amp. When I bought my rb1001, I was just short of buying a fusion 550, and have regretted it ever since. Despite my best efforts, I have been unable to do a deal on one and just wondered if any fellow basschatters were currently using one of these amps and what their experience has been, and whether there is one in the NW that someone may be kind enough to let me come and try? They NEVER turn up in shops!!

GAS is evil. It never goes away for long. I think I am fortunate that I have a bass that I love (but I've been here before), and so I sold everything to get a second as a backup. I can see myself gassing after different variant (stingray 5 in HH, 30th anniversary, classic and fretless), but this would be a difficult justification given the price of the instruments. Amp GAS has never been far away. When I bought my Gallien Krueger rb1001, I REALLY wanted the fusion 550 but just couldn't afford it at the time. The irony is I should have just put it on the credit card and got it and killed the evil mistress dead. As a result, I have always felt like Something was missing from my sound, and always wanted the fusion 550, just never been able to do a Deal on one. I think as a result of this, I have spent the last month gassing after an Aguilar db751 rig, but the reality is I am going to struggle to justify spending the better part of 2 grand to get a rig without selling my GK rig first, as I am gigging so can't be without an amp. Trying to just come the realisation that my setup doesn't sound bad at all, in fact it sounds great. There are undoubtedly amp/cab setups out there that will sound better, but the investment required to jump up is nearly double what I already have, and in a pub environment, will anyone including me REALLY notice the difference?? Probably not. Then again, trying new gear out is fun!!!
Agree about the power button. Are n't the 'Level' and 'Woofer' controls serving the same function as gain and master though? Also using the 'Boost' control also helps find the right amount of grit.
If you are using gk bi amp cabs then yes. In its defence, I never really spent ages messing with mine when I had it, but can't help a gain/master would be more intuitive.
Blood sugar sex magic, although I've heard it so much I can't stand to listen to it anymore...l.
But I never get tired of it... takes me back to my misspent youth... had a mate who was the first one of our crowd to buy his own car, and a copy of this al um was left in the car stereo! It was probably 4 years after I had heard it for the first time, and has stuck with me ever since. It's one of the few albums you can listen to end to end without skipping a song.... except "they're red hot"...

I love SOME of my gear. I love my stingray 5's, no "but". I love my GK Cabs, but I am being wooed by a pair of Aguilar DB112's, and all these pics of a pair in chocolate thunder with a matching AC500DC are not helping things. I loved my GK RB1001ii, but it was just a little too gritty at times, that is why I am, and have been since buying the rb, gassing for a GK Fusion 550. I love my Markbass TTE 500, but not having a mute button is just a pain.
You mute my Markbass head by...err turning it down on the gain or level knob! This accounts for a mysterious second set start of set without any sound.
Hahaha, mine too!
I've been using GK 1001rb's for about 7 years. I still have to search for the "on" button. Blue
I'd love to see an rb1001iii LED backlit power button, and a "gain" and "master" control knobs would increase its versatility.
This track is a good example but maybe it's not "funk"?
I was going to say something, but I retract my statement. I am rubbish at musical theory.... Are we sure this is in 4/4???? Might explain why the 1 feels out

Can you give an example of when it is on the off beat?

‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’ - bass sound (how?)
Damonjames replied to Skol303's topic in General Discussion
To my ears, it does sound a lot like an ehx bassballs, with the drive switch in, but I also sounds like there is a low pass filter with an expression pedal involved as the level of filter is not consistent. I've not got a envelope filter at the minute, but a bass wah might also be involved. As could a bass octave. I'll get to having a try at it in the coming weeks! -

Has anyone gone from lightweight back to heavy?
How about the neo loaded Aguilar SL410x (22.23kg)?
True! I did forget they do a 410, I was just thinking they inley did the 112! -
Yep. This year I started out with a gk mb500 fusion and changed to an aguilar db750. The weight doesn't bother me as I'm fit and strong so don't find it a chore to move. The sound quality is a world apart and I'll not go back to lightweight in a hurry. Seriously considering swapping my TCS cabs for an aguilar db 212 or 410 next.
An amp head is one thing, but the aggy cabs are heavy!!! Check out something with a neo driver!! -
