1. I have an Eden Nemesis 650, flight cased, worth about £300 if your interested in a trade.
2. DRUMMER WANTED for 'Su Edwards & Gone Country'. We are a busy award winning Fun/ Americana/Country/Johnny Cash Tribute Band. Our present drummer is leaving in the middle of October and we need to have a replacement up and running for then. Technical brilliance (but would be nice!) is not essential, but personality and a right fit for the band is a must! Must be fun loving and enjoy a good laugh and travelling with the rest of the band is offered. The band is based in and around Woking, Surrey so preferably would need to be reasonably local to there. We play about 6 gigs a month at a mixture of social clubs, country music clubs, pubs, theatres and festivals in the south, with the occasional foray into Wales and the Midlands. All paid work but we do about 1-2 charity gigs a year so it's not all about money, it's about having fun, so please, no breadheads or miserable gits need apply! Auditions to be held locally. If this is sounds like your bag, please p.m. your details. Google us for website and facebook details..
3. I'll take this from you my friend! Have cash and I'm in Reading.
4. Be a great gig if it wasn't for the western gear bit! LOL... Honestly guys, I've had great fun depping for this band over the last few months. Nice guys to work with and well worth a try.
5. Bump for a superb amp!
6. Country Bass Player Available. Based in Reading. Professional standard with backing vocals. Deps or preferably an established band. Good gear and reliable transport. Will travel. You can see and hear me here. I can also play most other styles.
7. Definitely a weapons grade bellend...
8. For all you country music lovers out there.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxrROjpd5S8
9. I would love to have done this but my own band is in High Wycombe that night but if anything else comes up, please let me know. You can check my country credentials and hear our music on our website www.ianhighland.com.
10. Brilliant!! Wish you guys well..
11. Hi Great Harry. I'm 70 and still gigging so you've got years yet! I retired for a few years a while ago and started from scratch with my first purchase being a Yamaha RBX 170 bought s/h for £50.00. A great little bass and sounds/plays beautifully. Although I now use a Jazz bass I still have it and get it out for the occasional gig.
12.
I watched a really good set from a solo performer at a open mic night. She queued loads of samples, rhythms and beats from a square keypad thing. She then sang + played the guitar over it, musically it was really creative, worked well and I enjoyed it very much. No bass guitar or drums in sight. Was there anything wrong with that? I don't think so.
Comes under the heading of 'Karaoke', that's what's wrong with that.
13. Eden for me also. I'm using a Nemesis 650 and it's the best sound I've had in fifty years of playing!
14.
Excellent post! There are so many other variables in a live situation as to make such discussion ******* retentive at best. Depending on what level you're playing at the bass will also be affected by whether the venue is a "barn", the shape of it (how many pubs have the band using an L shaped room?) and often incredibly important how many punters are in. At the top levels I stopped going to gigs at either Glasgow's SECC or Manchester's MEN arena because the sound was unbelievable crap, the only thing going for the gig was to say "I was there" (Though I didn't even want to admit that when one of them was East 17). I was at a gig last year which was in a tall long venue, there was no talk of speaker size, cab shape etc or whether the bassist should switch his Ampeg for his Marshall. First question asked was "How many tickets are sold?" & then jokingly "Try to get the tallest ones to stand at the front, too bad the small guys can't see at the back". There's a lot to be said - stating the obvious - that you're better to start by getting the best sound that you can, but letting theory dictate it completely is missing the mark completely.
Totally agree with this. I've been regularly gigging now for over fifty years. I turn up, switch it on, plug it in and tweak a bit to tailor to the room acoustics. Job done! There's nothing like the Mark 1 earhole... (I now use 1 x 15" having previously used 2 x 12". The only time I've ever used 10"s have been at festivals where the rig was provided)
