Made a set of knobs today, the two on the right must still be made to the right height for the stacked tone control.

They were all build for my personal use. I'm not a luthier, I'm a instumentmaker by profession so I'm used to making and thinking out things. Being a instrumentmaker has nothing to do with musical instruments by the way, I build, develop, maintain and repair laboratory equipment for the physics department at the Leiden University. As far as time is concerned, I'm a quick worker once I know what needs to be done and making a bass guitar is not really rocket science, basically it's just gluing together some chunks of wood and after that give those chunks the shape you want it to have.

The body is glued together. The top is already done, the back is in clamps at the moment.

The wood for the body is ready to be glued together. Leveled the body core on both sides, glued together the top and back halves and leveled the side that is going to be glued to the core, also prepared the cover for the control cavity. I just barely managed to get out a piece of wood that is big enough to be used as a top for the headstock.

The first sawdust is a fact, re-sawed the top and back from the thick slab of Myrtlewood.

not really a rig... but a very nice small combo, it sounds great for such a small amp. It doesn't go loud but loud enough for home use, it comes with a handy range of amp presets and build in effects. And a picture to give a real impression of its size with a type of bass next to it that everyone knows,

The last missing parts are in, I'll soon start making sawdust.

Finished the template with which the complete bass will be build. As soon as I'm coming out of hibernation and start working again I will start sawing the big pieces of wood into something that can be worked with at home.

Nope. The design process is the fun part nowadays... The actual building has almost become a boring routine and isn't that much of a challenge anymore.

The design for the headstock is also done.

Except for the pickups all the hardware is in, the pickups are being manufactured by Delano at the moment and are scheduled for delivery somewhere halfway of January.

I'm starting another build project.... and build diary. The plan: A left handed fretted seven string with a bolt-on neck and a single cut body. [size=2](the position for the pickups in this picture are not yet where I want them, they are just there for size)[/size] The details: - Seven strings, #F to C - My mk4 body shape - Bolt on neck, fretted - 35 inch scale - 2 dual action truss rods - 2 Delano dual coils, switchable in series/single/parallel - Glockenklang 2 band preamp, 3 knobs - Single-string bridge parts, gold - Warwick tuners, gold - Myrtlewood top and back - Khaya Mohogany body core - Snakewood fingerboard - The woods I'm going to use for the neck will be decided once I'm there I still need to design the headstock. For the time being I'm working on gathering the parts I need, the actual building will probably start somewhere halfway of February. The main rough pieces of wood I'll be using for this build.

I'm still thinking on which woods I will use, at the moment I prefer myrtle for top and back but I've also got other woods at hand and have not yet made a definite decision on which one I'm going to use.

The next build is starting to take shape, it will be a fretted seven string single-cut bolt-on 35 inch scale bass. I'll start a new topic once I've worked it out in more detail, if there is any interest in my next project.

It is just a piece of stainless steel tube (3x4 millimeters) on which I flattened the ends, I also put a couple of spacer rings with a thickness of 3 millimeters between this tube and the pickup rings to get it on the height I wanted it to be from the body.

Is Gibson 'inspired' allowed? I made this one myself, loosely based on the SG body shape.

Replaced the two core wire with a four core one on the Sidewinder and placed and wired up a series/parallel switch, this switch gives a lot more variation in the sound possibilities and seems to have solved my problem with the muddiness. For the time being I'm happy with the result, the muddiness is still there if want to but now there's also a setting that gives me a lot more mids.
