TRADE NEGOTIATED: I have a Boss Super Octave that I don't use at all. I acquired it in a deal with another pedal, plugged it in once to try it and that's it. Been sat for nearly a year unused. Its brand spanking new pretty much. Not sure if I have the box. Will have a search. I don't really need the cash so I am open for taking something interesting as a trade. Either effects or whatever you want to offer around the same price area. I think they retail for about a 100 squid. I will throw a photo up when I get back from work.

What is actually involved in the master classes? Who is taught? Selected people? Is it a sign up process? Thanks! -
London Bass Guitar Show 2013 - 2 and 3/03/2013
I'm going to publish a BC corner meetup schedule for the weekend some time soon. I'm only waiting to make sure the show's schedule doesn't get amended again at the last moment, as I'm creating our schedule around a couple of masterclasses and performances I don't want to miss
Nice. As long as I get to see Andy Irvine then I'm happy. And hoping that the Warwick stand is extensive. Still haven't tried a Streamer in left handed, wanted to hear and feel the difference to my Corvette, as was in 2 minds when I bought it! -
Prepare yourself to try a lot of basses upside down. Last year I saw 4 or 5 lefty models on show, though, which was an improvement on the grand total of one (Höfner Paul McCartney model) I saw in 2011.
Ah that's unfortunate. I don't think you can get a real feel of a bass by playing upside down personally. Well here's me hoping to see a couple more this year. Would be interested in meeting up for a beer or 20 with any basschatters if theres a meet. -

Just bought a couple of weekend tickets for myself and my bands guitarist (He is a bassist first, guitarist second ) So will be there for the full duration. Also knowing myself.... I think I will be buying a few goodies..... Also a question for fellow lefties, whats the tryouts like for us? as in do most stands have left handed versions, or is it pretty much few and far between? -

Brett McKenzie wrote alot of the music from the recent Muppets movie right? Oscar as well I believe.... -
Leave them, don't look back. And join both the originals and new cover outfits. Throw yourself in the deep end, best way.

Recording a video of yourself playing using an iPad
DogHammer replied to Mr Lizard's topic in General Discussion
My personal experience is that the mic will not be good enough for the job. I have tried tablet mics, phone mics and even mini recording devices, but the quality is always terrible. Especially in a band situation. What I currently use is one of these: http://www.samsontec...ophones/gtrack/ with a laptop, and have just ordered my MS Surface tablet to start using with it. The audio quality is fantastic. And has hardware mic receiving control, and even a single MIDI in. As for the video, the HD recording on the IPAD is pretty good, and shouldn't be too hard to sync the audio with a separate video track! -
I make sure I pick up a bass for an absolute minimum of 20 minutes every day. If im going away somewhere (not abroad) then I will take my acoustic. I read somewhere years ago about 20 minutes a day is one of the best ways to do it and it stuck. Dunno if that's true or not. But its worked for me. I find if i'm away abroad for a week I get itchy that i'm not playing. Kind of a guilty feeling!
Precisely that problem. I put new strings on (D'Addario nickel round wound) and the output shot up. I don't know what the strings that were on it when I bought it but they didn't look old and sounded ok acousticlly. So unless you are 100% certain of your strings it's worth a go. The other thing was that I was playing with both pickups on full volume, this actually causes a volume drop. Everyone uses a slightly different blend but for me it's full on neck , half bridge. My brother also has a jazz bass and he does it the other way round
Thanks for this. I will try a different string setup, they are Rotosound at the moment, may try some of those D'Addario's. I keep the back pickup on full front on about half.

Ok, After playing with the Jazz quite a bit at band practice last night, I have found that it is struggling to cut through . I was running through my MarkBass 151p, and found I really needed to ramp the volume up nearly to full, and I had to dig in a bit for it to cut through. So whats the solution, has anyone else had this issue?

Hmmm..... alrighty. I will break it out on November the 10th, for a beer festival gig we are doing and post my experiences and other peoples feedback.

Hi All, I have just acquired a very nice Lefty 2002 Fender MIM Jazz from the forums own Psycoandy. This is my first Fender. I have always been put off in the past, as everyone seems to have them. And as I am left handed, I haven't really had much opportunity to try one. Have tried an American precision a few years back and didn't like it. My first bass was a Jazz copy, a Legend I think, and looked exactly like the Fender, but cant really remember what it played like... I was only 13ish. Then from there it was Ibanez and eventually my Corvette $$. I must say I am very impressed. Really easy to play, and so very light compared to the Warwick. Maybe I have a 'Good' one? Think I may break it out for a few numbers at our next gig. Any recommendations on upgrades? Pickups? Preamp?

I learn the exact bassline, note for note, all the mutes, solos the lot. Then improve it or change it based on what the rest of the band are doing. For instance you may want to rock up a few numbers....

Hi rOB, I actually find it a bit difficult finding promoters to get gigs under. We have played a few originals gigs, 1 under a promoter, and some under pub landlords, event managers. I find that around where I live, alot of the promoters seem to be purely for Metal bands, and we simply wont fit on their shows. But then again I'm thinking that we just need to 'get around a bit' and get known and I'm sure it will get better. Plus im sure getting a proper recorded demo disk to give to promoters would be the best thing to do. We have badly recorded stuff, but something half decently recorded would be good. Very expensive though....

Alrighty, The gig with our new drummer on Thursday went really well. Comments from people who have seen us before were really positive, and they think our sound is considerably better with the new drummer. We were the 2nd on of 3 bands that night, and we sounded the best in my and most of the crowds impressions.... (I went around asking for opinions) The new drummer really enjoyed playing with us too, and likes our original material. We had a practice last night too, and wrote a new song, with our new drummers flair to it. Sounds really great, kind of fresh rock sounding if that makes sense.

We have just gone through a change of Drummer in the band. Our previous drummer had commitment problems, he didn't turn up for practice, cancelled practices a few hours before we were due to start, was sat on his phone inbetween playing/practice, and didn't seem to interested. He was also a bit older than us, we are all 28 - 34, and he was 50. So after lengthy discussions between the rest of us we decided to let him go. It was quite a hard thing to do as we all have became good friends over the past 9 or so months. We trialled a new drummer on Tuesday, 30 years old, and he is a session drummer who lives near us, and was looking for a band that he could have input into. Wow... I found the difference for me was incredible. He picked up our original material without even listening to it before hand, and made it his own. He followed my basslines to make his beat and for me it felt great. I found that I could throw in fills, feel tight and comfortable like I never have before. Never knew what I was missing out on!!! So we are gigging tonight with him on a Rock originals night. Just wanted to share my new found enthusiasm with you all!!
Couple of coats of beeswax will make it look real good. Should add some real depth to the finish and will protect the oil finish too. Imperfections in the wax finish can always be remedied with another coat. Looks great already though! Truckstop
Ah excellent. I shall use my Warwick Beeswax on it then. What kind of thing do i need to do to the fret board once the veneers are in? I presume i need to be oiling it.....

6. Had the dilemma of being a 'Bedroom Bassist' for many years, then had some bad luck with bands, splitting up before gigging! Hopefully on a good roll now with the current lot though.

Its been a few weeks and have had some time for some sanding. Gone all the way down to... or up to?...... 1200 Sandpaper. The result was a nearly glass like finish! really really nice. But... the colour kind of bothered me. Seemed to look really light blonde colour, and it looked like it needed some kind of character to it. So I decided to give it a few coates of Tru-Oil..... Now I dont really know if this is the kind of stuff that I should be using or whatever, as its actually oil for treating Gun Stocks. But it seems to have come up a really nice colour, and is now showing some nice grains and rings in the wood. I have left the jack cutout unsanded, and it looks ok I think.
-
Right, sanding has started. Haven't had much time to work on this between playing and gigging... I used 80 grade sandpaper to start with, the dark stain has come off pretty easily. I will be going down to 1000. I have managed to source some Maple veneer from a friend of mine who is doing some building at the moment too. He has also given me free reign to use his home workshop with a full range of tools. The wood seems very blonde. I may give it an oil kind of finish, but I don't know yet. Will get the sanding done and take it from there.
Thats a great looking Corvette $$! The $$ provides so many sound possibilities with the configuration, enjoy it! Please let me know if you've ever got any questions or if I can be of assistance in any way.
I did have a question actually... When gigging or playing for a long period of time, I find that the back of the body of the corvette gets wet through sweat (Hot practice rooms or hot stages) Would this be an issue with damaging the wood on a natural finish over time? I keep it regularly waxed with the Warwick BeesWax, would this keep it protected, as well as looking good?
