Personally I wont lend out my gear. If its to a bass player I know and have gigged with them before and we have a bit of a relationship then sure, but theres no way some random is playing through thousands of pounds worth of my kit. Unfortunately people sometimes get unhappy with this approach, but they should bring their own gear.

What's the general standard of player who reads Basschat?
DogHammer replied to lou24d53's topic in General Discussion
Real good thread. Its great to hear other players experiences. Food for the soul. I always thought myself a beginner, have been playing bass for about 10 years total, with a few years gap between (drugs and alcohol got in the way)... Have always pushed forward with theory and being in bands, jamming with people. I find myself very depressed if I'm not involved in something like a band or recording project. In the last few years my ability as a bass player went to an all time low. It kind of felt like I was in a major rut, couldn't learn and felt embarrassed to play at times. I pushed really really hard to improve myself with bass and other instruments and it has paid off. I now find I can really gel with any other musicians, am consistently complemented and get asked to play at jams and such. As for reading, I have never delved into trying to sight read for bass. I learned to read music while playing keyboard for years so maybe its something I should pick up again and progress further to make me a better all round bass player with sight reading skills... -
Should every bass player play at least a little bit of guitar
DogHammer replied to CHW's topic in General Discussion
Agree with OP. I started with Keyboard, then took up bass, now guitar. Even though Bass is 'my' instrument I do dabble in the other two. Its helped me with theory and knowing what other people are playing and why they go to certain places if that makes sense. Drumming though. Thats a whole different story. You need to be slighty mental to drum in my opinion. One of the drummers I used to be in a band with used to have a really savage stammer twitch thing, and he used to use it as his internal metronome to keep himself in time! -

Price now: £430 Its with great sadness that I have to put up for sale my Orange OBC410. Its one of these: http://www.gak.co.uk...ge-obc-410/4892 600w 8ohm. I love this cab, as its got great low end and some serious punch and it goes lovely with my Bass Terror. But I am going through an unfortunate housing situation at the moment, which means it will be packed up in storage for the whole summer. Instead I have decided to sell it, or trade for something smaller/lightweight as I will need to get a smaller cab anyway. Preferably a 1x12 or a 2x10. Its in near perfect condition, and its about 18 months old. In the photos below you can see the condition. Very well looked after, the Orange tolex is still in great condition, only mark is a small graze on the front. The last picture is a zoomed in one of the graze, as I didnt take a close up when I took the shots this morning. Ill get another close up shot. Collection from Oxford, or I can meet half way as long as its a reasonable distance. Not looking to post as its a pretty big cab.

Spector Rebop 4 MM. Its one of these: (But left handed) http://www.bassdirec...r_Rebop_M4.html A fantastic bass that's got some serious punch with the EMG pickup at the back. Also very lightweight. Previously bought off of this forum from Whynot early last year, who was a great guy to deal with at the time, and looks after his basses as it was in perfect condition (Still is) when it arrived to me. Since then its seen a few great gigs and been looked after very well. Only reason I am selling is that I don't play it since I bought my Sandberg. So I would rather see it used by someone who will get the most out of it. I am happy for someone to come round to trial the bass, I am based in Oxfordshire. Also I still have the original Spector box so can arrange delivery with buyer too. I will take some photos when I get home and try not to talk myself out of selling it as its a lovely bass. Edit: Snapped a few photos after giving it a bit of a clean. Unfortunately I have found a small scratch on the back of the bass near the plate (shown in photos). Must be a buckle scratch or something, so can now will offer free delivery to anyone from the UK, or PM me for any offers.

Saw them live at the O2 Academy in my town. Even though their album has some great songs on it and I have always been impressed with the Bass split signal thing..... Live they really didnt do it for me. The bass tone was terrible, muddy with no definition, and too 'in the background'. Made it all sound empty. Also I found the constant distorted/overdriven 'guitar' tone really grating after a few songs. Maybe it was just not a great sound for them on that one gig.

Funny things that people say to you at gigs

Gig on the weekend, another bass player said to me: "Am I plugging into that Orange, yeah?" "No mate. I'm sure the soundman has a DI Box." -
