1. I have this same situation. Technically our drummer is very good with fills and all that jazz, but when it comes to basic time its not great. To be fair to him he steps up for gigs and he keeps time a lot better than he does in the practice room. I have approached it fully head on. In the practice room if he speeds things up or slows down to a noticeable level, then I will stop the song and say that he needs to sort his timing out as its all over the shop. Also I make him use a metronome in his ears where possible. It is much easier for me to say all this to him as we are all good friends in the band and I can just shout many profanities and insults and its all taken in stride. But obviously it makes it that much harder if we decided we want another drummer.... What has improved his internal timing is to sit and practice to a metronome at home. I can tell when he has been doing it, and when he's been slacking. I know i'm not the best most technical bass player, but I can keep good solid time and can tell when it wavers.
2. Bass Mods have a 10 Percent off everything deal on. http://www.bassmods.com/ But it looks like the basic price of the lefty I was after has gone up in price from $880 to $925. But suppose the 10% will offset it so its still cheaper...
3. Didnt manage to get everything sorted to get an entry in this month. I did manage to make my first track at home last night though. So hopefully get something together for December
4. Alrighty. Just got home and tested a few things. Got rid of the old Multiplug that I was plugging the speakers into for a start. Switched it with a brand new one, and that eliminated most of the idle hum. Then realised I never actually tested the speakers with no phono cable in the back at all, and now they are totally silent minus these cables. I have some nice short cables coming tomorrow so I shall hook them up and see if I get no interference when plugged in.
5. I have had good success with Gumtree, a little bit with Joinmyband. Another good way is too go along to acoustic nights or jams and find a singer there. Approach them and see if they are interested. Also going to Original night gigs, where the first act or acts are single acoustic players. See if they are interested in a full band setup.
6. Im powering everything from the same double socket on the wall. Monitors, Computer, LCD Monitor... Ill do some testing later.
7. Thanks Dad3353, They are new, but both came in separate boxes, so I presume they cant both be DOA? I think I will try turning them on in another room from another power socket when I get home, see if I still get the hum.
8. So I have myself a Focusrite Scarlett Interface, and now a set of PreSonus Eris 5 powered monitors all connected to my PC at home, to try to get into the world of recording. When I turn the speakers on, not connected to the Audio Interface I get a bit of a hum. Nothing too loud just a little kind of buzzing hum from both speakers. But when I have them plugged into the Interface I get some crazy distorted interference sounds. I have had a read up about interference and things I can do to alleviate it. First thing is to use shorter Phono cables to connect from the Interface to the speakers. The ones I am using at the moment are very long, like 8 meters long.... So I have ordered some short decent ones from StudioSpares. What else do I need to think about to alleviate any interference?
9.
Badum tish.
You interested in Trades? I have a lovely 'Queen Absolute Greatest' mug for a straight swap? Never been gigged but used every day....
10. Have a comment/bump on me. I have one of these and its awesome. Great for big venues when you need to keep up with these silly Marshall 6 string stacks.
11. SOLD Price or Trade Value: £350 Fender Jazz Made in Mexico. Sunburst with a White scratch plate. Has a set of Seymour Duncan SJB-3 Pickups in it and a J-Retro. Has been gigged extensively for about 2 years since I purchased it off of another bass chatter. Both upgrades performed by myself. Has a few dings on the body all done by me at gigs, but still plays and looks great. Only selling to fund extra basses and equipment coming in. Located in Oxford for any trials. Can meet up halfway with buyer if its not too far. If posting then I can look at options then. I have an old Warwick gig bag I can pack it in. [s]£380[/s] due to the couple of dings in the body. Also comes with the original passive control plate. £350 price drop
12.
Shame they've sent the girls upstairs - when I used to go they were just downstairs in the main bar room & would still be going round when they bands were setting up!
Ah thats still the case. The girls go upstairs after 7:30....
13.
Just been on the bassmods site and had a bassgasm. Thank you for introducing me to this, my credit card should run and hide...!
I am also considering one of these new 5ers. Seems like you get a lot of bass for the price. But which one to get? Im leaning more towards the cream.... Anyone had one yet? know about the delivery time estimate?
14. Ahhhh the old White Horse... Organised a gig there about a year ago. Us and got another band we know in. Our singer knows Alistair the owner. The Downstairs area actually has pretty good sound, but we did bring our own sound engineer. On a weekend you get the local crowd in and they are happy to watch some live music. But I wouldn't say it was a rough pub by any means. And you do have the option of the strip 'living room' upstairs. Its a little room with a pole and girls dancing around it. The old pound in a pint glass deal.
15. Another Price drop bump. Looking to move this on ASAP due to eyeing a 5er.
16.
I plug my laptop and Focusrite/keyboard into my stereo, so no need for separate monitors... All you need is a pair of 1/4" to RCA leads to plug into a hifi amp. So long as your hifi speakers are relatively neutral you'll be fine!
I was thinking of going this route. But my Hi Fi and floor standing speakers are all situated as the TV sound system. Was looking at ordering these from Thomann: http://www.thomann.de/gb/presonus_eris_5.htm Then cracking on with an entry. Even if its something simple to get me started
17.
That's the level of commitment I like to hear! Good on ya and welcome aboard.
Im actually following your Introduction to recording threads Skol. Got a Focusright Scarlett, looking at getting monitors this weekend, just need to learn a DAW. I have used Mixcraft but might take a look at that Reaper this weekend....
18. Snapped a quick photo as I went out this morning.
