1. Going to have to pass on this occasion - getting a bit previous with the money situation. Looks like they're all yours Owen. A
2. Are the Hipshot Ultralites for a 2+2 or a 4-a-side headstock? If they're 2+2 I may well take them off your hands. A
3. Chin ---> Floor. That is stunning. Dibs on that when you want to move it on A
4. The 4 Ohm cab will draw twice as much power as the 8 Ohm will. If they're rated accordingly, and your amp will genuinely handle a 2 Ohm load, then go for it. A
5. Ferric Chloride usually comes in the form of brownish yellow crystals. Just add water to make into a solution, but add less water than is recommended on the pack. I've used press & peel in the past, but you do need to get it hot (and I do mean really properly hot) and keep it that way for quite a while or it doesn't stick all that well. Even with good adhesion, be prepared to do some touching up of your mask. Enamel paint works well for this. A
6. Thought I'd stick up a few pics of my Ibby. It's an '82 MC824DS, with some of the loudest passive pickups I've ever come across. Controls are blend, volume and tone. Complete with factory hardshell case Lovely grain on the ash body wings, albeit slightly battle scarred Non original machine heads, unfortunately. These are semi-open Schallers, actually a one-sided set, so the D & G tuners work the wrong way round. 3-piece maple through neck with walnut stringers. The contouring around the neck/body join is superb, although I don't get up there often enough to appreciate it More battle scars here too. I've got it set up OK for the way I play, but it's quite badly in need of a fret dress or maybe even a refret to get it really fast and low. As it is though, I'm happy with it as my backup/jam night bass. A
7. First gigging rig was a Laney Linebacker Bass 100 head into a DIY 1x15 cab (a little later I added a DIY 2x10to the setup), and a no-name piece of crap Fender copy. Currently gigging a Hartke HA7000 through a DIY 2x10, with either a Schecter Stiletto Studio 4, an Ibanez Musician 824 or a Peavey BXP 6. In between there was a lot of other stuff, and I'm not done yet, not by a long shot A
8. I can recommend you give the Peavey BXP a look too. Through neck construction and laminated neck for £370. Apparently they can be a bit variable in quality, so it's worth trying a couple out, but there are a lot of good ones out there (mine's a peach ) The 35" scale really improves the B string sound too. A
9.
is there any diffeence in hooking both cabs up to an output each and hooking one up and the running a speaker cable from one to the next would the amp still be running at 4 Ohms as both my cabs are currently 8 Ohm cabs

No difference - You got it...
No difference in terms of impedence, but daisy chaining the cabs means that the output jack on the amp is handling the full 600 Watts, whereas plugging each cab into the amp seperately means each jack only needs to handle 300 Watts. I'd always try to run each cab to the amp seperately just for this reason - put less stress on the connectors and they're less likely to fail. A
10. I've done a few using Ferric Chloride (PCB etchant). You can get it at Maplins, RS etc. I've found that a stronger solution works better than the recommended strength, as does keeping the solution warm. A
11. It sounds to me like you've outgrown your amp. It's really not cost effective to upgrade the speaker in an entry level practise amp, you'd be better off getting something a bit bigger. Might be worth looking at the 'for sale' threads on this forum - there's often some good stuff at low prices, like thisAshdown or maybe this Warwick A
12. I know quite a few people use these for bass, and they seem to be pretty hard to find these days. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peavey-DPC-750-1u-Di...=item2eaa8fc28f A
13.
Flea's ditty on 'Aeroplane' needs a mention as it was a bonafide actual hit with a bass solo, allbeit shortened for the radio.
Nigel Harrison's solo on Blondie's 'Atomic' predates it by a good few years... solo starts at about 2:30. A
14. If it's just EQ you're after, try the Boss EQ-20 LINK Has 9 user adjustable presets, and gives you 2 different sounds at your feet (1 stored, one 'live' off the graphic) or you can switch it out to get the basic amp sound. The biggest downside is the price - around £170 new, and good luck finding a used one! A
15.
Forgot to say to m00sh that picking it up from me in Wycombe is fine if he wants it before Alien Si
Works for me. A
16. You could try lowering the crossover frequency, which would have the effect of making the 4x10 do more of the work. The biggest problem with using a standard 1x15 (or pretty much any bass cab really) as the low end in a biamped rig is that they're not really designed for it. What you need is a sub of some kind - a PA sub would do fine. A
17. I'd go along with some of the previous posts and say get a decent amp too. You're less likely to get disheartened if you're getting a decent sound, as opposed to sounding like somebody farting in a jar. A cheap bass through a decent amp will always sound better than a good bass through a cheap amp. I'd say look for something with no less than 100 Watts, and a single 12" or 15" speaker or a pair of 10" speakers. In the sort of price range you're looking at, Hartke, Peavey, Ashdown or Laney would be a good start, a Roland Cube 100 would be one to look out for too. There are plenty of other good amps out there, so don't limit yourself to these. Oh, and spend a few quid on a decent lead too, don't just go for a cheap one. Talk to our own OBBM - top quality stuff at very reasonable prices. A
18.
There's an obscene amount of amps on that list, so I'd like to revise my equipment list to: 18. peted - Warwick Thumb BO 4, Squier MIJ modded Precision, Shuker Singlecut 6 fanned fret (if it's ready by then, but I'm not holding my breath)
Makes sense - Andyonbass is bringing his Omni 10.5s, and my HA7000 is effectively a pair of 3500s in one box, so we'll have it covered between us. A
19.
Nik Kershaw.
I've long thought that Wouldn't It Be Good contains the finest guitar solo never played Listen through it in your head and you'll hear the lead break played on guitar. Listen to it for real and it's keyboards. Surprises me every time! A
20. http://www.stringbusters.com/ Elixirs sell the low B seperately too. A
21.
Midge Ure was preciously talented but never really got the critical acclaim he deserved.
And he was in Thin Lizzy for a while. That's all the cool any man needs. A
22. I had my eye on that one too. As you say, someone (not me , unfortunately) got a real bargain. A
23. Wouldn't hurt to let people know where you are... A
24.
Now that I've got one of these little micro-amps I can see the appeal of a couple bent bits of aluminium and some bolts to clamp it onto a cab, Genz Benz combo-stylee, especially if you're one for tilting your rig. I shall investigate the possibilities... Alex
Shouldn't be a problem with the Big One - you could tie it off to the top handle easily enough. A
25. Speaker cabs that fold up or collapse. It would be great not to have to carry big boxes full of (mostly) air and be able to get a full rig into a smaller car/house/wherever. I've looked into ways of doing it, but getting a cab to fold and not flex while in use seems to defy the laws of physics. A
