please dont ridicule my tiny Ukulele's sat on the wall - they already feel somewhat lacking when hung with the bass's
Don't apologise. I'm actually loving that one on the left - looks like an Ampeg AEB gave birth to it! A
Took the speaker out, problem was the two wires going form the terminals to the coil were touching (themselves at night). Pretty textbook short. Off to Maplins for fuses after work tomorrow then.
Seperate the tinsel leads (that's the ones going from terminal to coil for the uninitiated) and check the resistance across the terminals with a multimeter. Chances are there's nothing wrong with the speaker if the leads shorted. Pretty unusual fault though - usually the tinsel leads are set far enough apart that they can't touch even at maximum cone excursion. A

Sounds like the speakers voice coil has gone short circuit. Never owned an Ashdown, never looked inside one, but it'd be pretty remiss of them to not include a speaker fuse on their amps. If you've got a multimeter, check the continuity through any fuses you can see inside (for gods sake unplug everything first!) Any fuses that have a resistance of more than a fraction of an Ohm are knackered. Andy
Woo-hoo! My first feedback ...
But not your last hopefully! Bought an old neck from Jack, completely unused (How do I know? No holes in it, see!) and a good price too. Cheers buddy! Andy
I find that the built-in compressor is absolutely useless. It sounds OK when the bass is played on its own, but you'll wonder why your bass sounds terrible in a band setting. I turned the compressor off and suddenly my bass found its place in the band mix again.
Am I alone in disagreeing with you here? On high settings it squashes the sound up way too much, but on 2-3 it just tames the peaks a bit. As for how it sits in the mix, I play in a 3-piece rock band and don't have any trouble. A
I think, but dont quote me on this, the maximum wavelength of an audible sound is around 10mm or so? Hmm, not sure about this now...
The wavelengths of the audible frequency range from 17.2m at 20 Hz up to 17.2mm at 20 kHz. If you feel the need to know the wavelength of any given frequency, then divide 344 (the speed of sound in m/s) by the frequency to get the wavelength in metres. Andy
..as this is my first valve amp, are they easy to maintain? where do i get some spare valves? and are mullard the best!
It's only the one valve in the preamp. You could probably thrash away at it forever without needing to replace it. Most people seem to rate Mullards as being the best sounding tubes, but to be honest I couldn't really hear much difference between the GT that was in mine originally and the Mullard I put in (didn't stop me leaving the Mullard in though ) A
I bought my second bass a little while ago
You could always look at getting another bass to keep in standard tuning (assuming you sold your first bass to buy your second) If you still have it, why not keep the old one in standard tuning and the Cort in C There are a lot of good basses for sale (especially on this very forum) which would probably cost you a damn sight less than a decent pitch shifter. They still change hands (occasionally) for under £200 on Ebay. At this price they're an absolute bargain - one of the best amps ever made IMO. A
oooooooooookay, thankyou....any more info to clarify why you think it's a very stupid idea? Do I need wire of a: higher impedance, lower impedance, different gauge, different material, different colour etc etc etc?
You'll ideally want screened cable. The sort of levels going into headphones is about the same as line level, so it makes sense you'd want similar cable. A
And the only other Asama bass I've seen is this one: http://www.guitardir.com/specs.php?NodeId=...2&Context=3
The bass player from MK band Lionsex has an Asama P-bass, which I've had a bit of a play with. I assumed from the feel and quality that it was from one of the Japanese factories from the '70s or '80s - good to have that confirmed. A

Alex, any idea as to when the 3012's (esp. the HO) will be available this side of the pond? I'd like to get my hands on a few. A -
you could run, say, to GS412s, and an ABM 8x10. Not sure what that would make you.
Deaf, in pretty short order, I'd think A

Yeah, sounds like a dry joint to me. It's probably in the power amp as that's where all the heat comes from. If you don't feel confident to do it yourself, have a look HERE for an amp tech near you. A

You'll have to give us a bit more info than that old son. What sort of attachment do they use? I can tell they're not collet type, but are they grubscrew or knurled? Do they have a brass insert or is it straight into the plastic? What's the diameter? There's a lot of hardware sources out there that I've never seen mentioned on this or any other forum, so I'll keep my eyes peeled. Someone will almost certainly have them, as I doubt EMMA do enough business to get custom knobs made, but they may well be NOS or obsolete parts, and therefore nigh on impossible to source.
