Petite daughter - best 3/4 bass guitar
Alien replied to applegarthmusical's topic in General Discussion
Re amps, if she's like my daughter she'll prefer a beaten up second hand 80s trace elliot combo rather than something new.
An old Trace has a certain 'cool' factor that very few modern amps can get near to. Unfortunately for your daughter, they also have a certain 'heavier than the factory they were built in' factor too, so unless she's either a weightlifter or dating one they may be impractical, especially with the newer breed of superlight amps now on the market.
Brilliant! Just what I needed, thanks!
That would appear to be short-circuiting the DC input to itself via the top strip of the Veroboard guys - careful how you approach this one.

Hey, John P, what's the pinkish paisley patterned pedal (ooh, check out Mr Alliteration) just right of centre in that pic? Looks dead cool A

[sup]Has the whole world gone completely mad? What is wrong with you lunatics?[/sup] [sup]Only kidding Saved. Looks good so far. Weird, yes, but pretty good. Best of luck with the rest of the build.[/sup] [sup]A[/sup]
I would not have sold my Crate Powerblock amp ever - shame it got stolen! It served as a perfect small/light backup amp for guitar and bass, and even had it powering our wedge monitors once.
That's the sort of roles mine fills too (as well as a power amp for whatever needs a few watts thrown at it) - bloody useful little fellas they are... A

"And all those people who you romantically Like to still believe are alive, are dead So I’ll wipe my snot on the arm of your chair As you put another Roger Dean poster on the wall God I could murder a Cadbury’s Flake But then I guess you wouldn’t let me into heaven Or maybe you would ‘Cos their adverts promote oral sex" Just a wee spot of lyrical brilliance courtesy of Half Man Half Biscuit {If you remember them you must unfortunately be as old as me }
Powersoft (Arguably one of the Daddies!!)
You're not wrong there Dan!! Those wee beasties are unreal! A

There's a lot of chancers out there ready to try for a fast buck. If anyone pays the full asking price on that thing they deserve what comes to them! A
You're not an Elvis fan are you? Because I've got some bad news.
This actually made me laugh out loud!! A
I still remember the the hairs on my neck standing up when I very first heard "Don't Stand so Close to Me "
"Young teacher, the subject, of schoolgirl fantasies..." Pretty much still does it for me too man! "Bad news - bad news" Still pretty much the daftest album ever recorded Andy
I had an Akai Unibass before that. Less flexible, but I think overall it was a better sound.
I'd go along with that. Does the octave above plus either the 5th above that (for an octave up powerchord effect) or the 4th below, for root, 5 & 8. Sounds good to my ears. Lets you send the octave signal out to a separate amp too. A

Daisy Chaining your Darkglasses! Why would you want to hook up several pairs of shades???? ;p A
My first bass was a Kay P style, with an action you could limbo under!
Mine was a POS Fender(ish) alike with a ply body and an action you could walk under wearing a top hat!!
The old japanese bass collection basses are nice and light and will do him for years. They are not a lot of money secondhand either.
Plus, if he decides eventually that it's not for him, you won't lose any cash on one of these fellas. A
I love Anthrax but i don't honestly think they ever bettered the Among the Living album. Iron Maiden seem to make every song they write an epic nowadays. It's been good recently seeing Rock Goddess make a comeback with their original lineup. I wish the Hamsters and Dumpys Rusty Nuts were still playing but i don't think we'll see them back. I still regularly go to see Hawkwind and the Hawklords.
Rock Goddess are back?? Jody Turner was my first serious muso crush (hawtness!!) A

Don't know about the LH1000, but having looked at the schematics I can say that the HA series has a fixed mid scoop on the tube input channel, basically a Fender tone stack without the pots. A
Rustins plastic coating, and cutting back and polishing.
+1 Here's a fretless board I did a while ago using Plastic Coating Andy
I've not really seen much of a mention of the 5751 when it comes to bass gear to be honest - and it's gain isn't that much below a 12AX7. IIRC 12AX7 = 100, 5751 =70 and the 12AU7 is about 30? So would it be a worthy valve to roll with?
The 12AT7 / ECC81 has a gain factor of 60, compared to the 5751's 70, which makes it the most similar in terms of gain. They come up quite often at reasonable prices, possibly because everybody seems to want the ECC83 / 12AX7 instead. A

It's doable. All you'd need to do is wire the BBTs in series to bring them up to 8 Ohms for the pair. You'll need a special lead to do that though. A
Yeah, it can go back via Korg - I just need to get it to Milton Keynes. They'll then provide an estimate, etc. Certainly very helpful, but might leave me out of action for a while.
Chances are it'll be my drummer fixing it. Don't worry though, he's not a total animal like some of 'em are A

Try some Dylon hot water fabric dye. I dyed a shirt black a few years ago - the shirt faded, the buttons stayed black. Should only take a minute to take the whiteness away. A
