A smallish update, the top wood arrived! They're un-sanded for now, but look great both dry and wet...

That's a shame. My single transaction with them went flawlessly. I ordered a custom length strap and it came within 7 days. Dead impressed!

I guess weight will be the biggest issue, but if you're already playing a P-bass then perhaps it won't be so much. As others have said, the Squier's are the ones to be looking out for. The lightest bass in that price range is probably going to be an Ibanez SR. Or if you can find one, a Yamaha BB will always stump the competition for the silly prices they seem to be going for.

I'd be more concerned about the quality of the photo than the amount, although I agree that sifting through 10+ photos of the same bass is a little bit tiring. But what annoys me more generally tends to be the quality of the photos. Learn to use a camera!

I'm due to place an order for these from Thomann in the next couple of days. I'll let everyone know how I get on.

I also had a bit of an iffy experience there, and now use other retailers for all my purchases where possible. Count yourself lucky that you didn't go in! Try attending the London Bass Guitar Show with no cash, where people are actually asking you if you want to try gear. It's torture in every sense of the word...

A picture like that shows me what colour it is and that's about it! Seriously though, I'm not a stickler for quality photography, but the more pictures the better in my opinion. However, quality over quantity every day! Unless you're selling a Fender. Then at least we know they're all the same really... [i]Just kidding.[/i]

These probably signify the end of the TRB range, which means no more 6-string basses from Yamaha if I'm thinking straight... Apart from the Patitucci sig'.

People tend to forget that there are a lot of teachers who purposely have more than one bass so that they are prepared for a whole range of students and their preferences. I don't think I'd ever feel comfortable with just one bass for gigging though, or perhaps I'm waiting for the right one to come along, but it all depends on if you're doing covers or originals or dep' work and if you feel you want the versatility of switching between various sounds. There are collector's too who like the look and feel of a various number of basses and want to own them all, and I certainly can't blame them.

I've just started my build with Alpher Instruments, it's extremely exciting isn't it? I opted for the John East simply based on two things. The first being that it is an extremely good preamp and is very versatile. The second being that nothing is permanent! It can take more than just a few minutes to decide that you prefer a certain preamp, so I was happy with it knowing that if I really had experience with another preamp that I preferred, I could switch it. I have no doubt though that it will do what I want it to do. I opted for two humbuckers because I prefer humbuckers! It's as simple as that. Wizard pickups are rather sought after and quite rare on the second-hand market, that's all I know about them, but it speaks volumes to me!
