1. As far as I could tell, they balance really well. The wenge/bubinga neck probably is heavy, but then the profile of it is so slim and comfortable that a lot of that wood is shaved off!
2. I use the Protec Contego as it is far superior in the 'comfortable to wear on your back' department. But I know the Mono cases offer amazing protection and I used their straps until I got a new bass that needed a custom length. Congratulations!
3. A bit like Bootsy I guess, a bit mundane and boring until he puts his hat on...
4. Love my Dingwall Combustion. If I ever wanted an upgrade, it would be to one of these, without a doubt. Fanned frets are the bees knees and I don't blame you for wanting to hold onto it.
5. I used to own one, and it was one of the best basses I've ever owned. Only reason for moving it on was because I wanted fanned frets. Here in the Midlands though I've never seen anything about the Premium line because I believe the Prestige range are special order only. That's not to say that it'll be impossible to find one, but it might take a while.
6. Cheers for the advice. Is there anywhere I can look for all this ohm and wattage business in plain English before I go seeking other peoples rigs to borrow? EDIT: Or, I'm guessing it doesn't really matter because my head is so small?
7. Hi guys. I'm after some advice on my current rig and where to take it (if it needs to go anywhere...!) I have a TC Electronic BH250 going through a single Genz Benz Focus LT112T currently, and don't really gig at all with it. But I have a 2 hour gig with a function band coming up, just doing old bluesy covers, but am concerned that my rig won't be able to hold its own. Unfortunately I don't know the venue or what the other members of the band are using (yet) but am wondering if I should start looking now for an extra cab to add on to my rig or just leave it and crank it up. Mark at Bass Direct was very helpful when I was looking for a proper rig, that was also small and light-weight, and I know that the combo of these two can be loud. But I'm hoping to hear from some more experienced gigging musicians! Thanks.
8.
What I meant was BB2024 inspired yamaha GAS
I can understand that, the quality very much transfers down the price-line right to the bottom end.
9. As a fanboy of modern Yamaha's, this excites me very much.
10. Just traded my Jazz for his Precision. Great guy, had a pleasant chat. Would happily meet up with him again if he needed anything from me or vice versa.
11. I manage a shop here in Birmingham and, being a bass player, I can empathise with you. Unfortunately, it's not easy for shops to stock other, more 'obscure' brands knowing that the majority of people are willing to travel far to try out mid to high end basses to places like Bass Direct or the Bass Gallery and other places. It's the equivalent of Volvo making a sports car. Nobody would bother, they'd drive right past the Volvo dealer to their nearest Porsche dealer, regardless of distance. And Mr. BassBus has a very good point.
12. I would personally go for the Ibanez BTB. They're a lovely bass guitar, and the scale length would be the main factor for me. Second would be the Yamaha BB. It's a great bass but not modern enough for my tastes but if traditional is your thing then go for the Yamaha. The Ibanez 5-string probably isn't worth considering unless you're going to be putting some really heavy gauge strings on it. And as far as prices, I'd like to believe that they're all similar prices, with the Ibanez BTB probably costing the most brand new. But used prices will be far lower for Ibanez's compared to Yamaha (percentage-wise).
13. Mine is up for sale currently at that price. Doesn't seem that cheap to me, they're fantastic basses! (my one has been played quite a bit, but I love that 'played in' feel).
14. Gone.
15. Depends what you're after in terms of lessons. I'd pay £40 an hour (I hope my teacher isn't reading this... ) if I was getting exactly what I wanted. Luckily, I pay £25 an hour and get exactly what I want; someone to bounce questions off, music recommendations, in-depth theory etc. If you just want to be playing as soon as possible, £40 is quite steep I believe. But bear in mind that if you pay £40 an hour for someone who is going to help you excel faster than a teacher who charges £25 an hour, then it would definitely be worth it wouldn't it? Of course if this teacher you talk of is someone you're considering, you might want to try at least a couple of lessons if you can afford it. Then you won't know what you're missing.
16. Drum lessons are on the way, thanks for all your help. I'll definitely let you know how I progress. And DrumChat should be a thing, yes...
17. Cheers Stu. I waved my pocket change at the owner and he said "Okay." So now I need everyone to not recommend me another kit and give me a pat on the back for picking such a great one...
18. Just wanted to add my little review here... They're awesome! I put a set on my new Fender Precision and played it through an old Carlsbro amp (lovely sounding amp to my ears) and they've got that quality 'new-string' zing from them. I've always found D'Addario's more pleasant sounding to the ears over other branded Nickel strings anyway. The difference in tension isn't huge, but when it comes down to it, I could tell when I paid attention and looked/felt how tense they were but when I just carried on playing I didn't think about it and didn't notice it as much. For the foreseeable future, I think I'll be purchasing these for all my 4-string basses, but only because it gives me a "peace of mind" knowing they're balanced tension. I agree with Dood as well, bring on the BT Prosteels please!
19. I would recommend an Ibanez BTB, but the don't come up very often. Other than that, an extended scale is going to help (feel nicer) with dropping to A so perhaps a BB if you can do with the string spacing. I found the SR505s to just have rubbish B strings...
20. Well, whadya reckon everyone? http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/pearl-export-exr-tama-iron-cobra-double-pedal-drum-kit-more/1014003895
21. Man, that's lovely. I bet the looks don't match the sound though.
22. Perhaps ask the drummer, or keep asking the drummer, if the volume of the guitarist is okay. Guitarist sounds like a typical "wailer", but I do suggest earplugs. I wear them when I play drums and I wear them when I play bass and all they do is bring down the volume of everything.
23. Thanks for the advice. Those second-hand kits look great 'Dad' but I did want them in 'Rock' sizes, rather than fusion. I don't know how often things like that pop up either! I'll have to have a think about the EXR kit as well, as I'm 99% sure I want it but if I'd get a better one from waiting, I dunno...
24. If you love them, you can't/shouldn't get rid of them. And especially if you don't need the money.
25. Like others, I never really play standing still! Or if I'm at rehearsals and moving about a lot, it usually means I've practiced a lot!
