1. Deeeefinitely the floating thumb. No other reason than I find it makes more sense (to me) when playing finger style.
2. Well, I've been looking at 'beginner rigs' lately and have had some great advice of starting combos that may be what you're looking for. In terms of weight (and not size) the new TC Electronic BG250 has had some great reviews but as far as suitability for gigging, I've heard some fairly average reviews in terms of volume.
3. Hi everyone, I'm planning to study music performance at college next year and will most likely (hopefully!) be gigging quite a lot. Obviously, it'll be nothing more than smallish venues. Fortunately, I have a great bass and a budget of £300 to complete my rig with, ideally, a combo amp that is easy to get around. There are many to choose from and I'm really at a loss! Cheers.
4. Hi everyone. I've just got a hold of some extra pocket money and want to get a decent set up + fret replacement my Ibanez SR. Of course, I want someone to do it for me so I'm wondering if anyone knows a guy. Cheers.
5. Most of the time, the right colour combination and matching neck is what pleases me. Part of the reason I fell in love with the bass I currently own.
6. The first thing I'd do is measure the height of it from the pickup, or compared to the rest of the strings. The second thing I'd do is make sure the B string isn't twisted by loosening it and re-seating it in the bridge. And that's all I really know.
7. It can also push someone who has been watching the thread with interest. If they see people are interested, then they're less likely to sit on the fence about purchasing your bass.
8. Ooo, red. Lovely really nice.
9. I hate to be the one but...
10. I stick to 5 strings, although I'm a fairly novice player. But if I was to switch up or down, it'd be to a 6 string!
11. 3 items on clear out here! Payment is by Paypal and shipping is within the UK only. [s]First item is a brand new pack of Ruthenium coated (like a shade of black, but still silver coloured) Schaller Strap locks. Bought them to fit onto a bass but never got around to it so these are in their original packaging and have never been touched. £11 + P&P for these![/s] [s]Second item is another pair of used, but still clean and unmarked Schaller Strap Locks. This time they are a pair of silver coloured (I believe 'chrome' is the official term) strap locks and are without original packaging. Price is £7 + P&P.[/s] Last up is a set of D'Addario nickel wound singles for 5 string bass. 145-120-95-75-55 are the gauges and these would currently cost you over £30 brand new. They haven't seen much play time at all from the looks of things; there are no marks on them and they feel clean and didn't sound very dulled at all. I received them on the bass I have currently and took them off for a lighter gauge as I do like to do tapping as these were monsters. However, I can honestly say that they are amazing for finger style playing great for slapping too. And as you can imagine, the heavy gauge B string feels and sounds amazing to play on a 34" scale bass. The strings have been cut for a 34" scale bass, not for through body stringing either. £16 + P&P for these. P&P will be £2 for each item.
12. You know what would be more infuriating? Seeing your dream bass getting purchased by someone else. Count yourself lucky that your dream bass is just a custom build away. Some people's dream basses are quite often not custom builds, so be happy in the knowledge that you'll get it eventually.
13. Worth a shot. Looks a bit like the Blueburst G&L I sold recently...
14. Never mind! I've been lucky enough to discover that the 24th fret was loose and coming away from the body enough for my fingernail to get stuck when attempting to pry it from the bottom edge of the neck. A quick smack with the edge of something blunt but hard (a piece of wood!) knocked it back into place and my world has now stopped coming crashing down.
15. Hi everyone. So I've recently noticed that playing the 23rd fret on my 5 string Ibanez Prestige causes massive amounts of buzzing, almost like rattling. The strings are at a standard height from the fretboard and the only thing I've seen that's had any effect on it is setting the string height stupidly high. I was wondering if it could be a possible problem with the fret itself? Any help is much appreciated.
16. Stick to it. Market has been, and still is, a bit 'dryer' than it used to be.
17. I only own a Korean-made Spector, but it was a purchase that was decided as soon as I picked up the bass. I love the neck on it, it's really slim and I found it really easy to play. Plus, for a passive bass, it had a great sound and had a strong output. A European or American made one is definitely on my list of dream basses.
18. Sandberg are one of those companies that you never ever really here anything bad about, but are never really a popular or 'in fashion'. But if I was allowed the money for a custom build, it'd be a Sandberg for sure.
19.
probably mice at the warehouse...
Metal-munching ones? Now that sounds rather scary...
20. Silly price. Good luck with the sale (although you shouldn't need it!)
