1. Anyone who knows about amps will know that Ashdown certainly make good ones, and this little beasty is no exception. It has been owned by me for two years but never taken out the house and is in pristine condition apart from a missing foot, as shown in the pictures, but it doesn't effect how it stands. A bit more info on the amp can be found here. £30 collected from Erdington in Birmingham!
2. Bump for Al, met up with him recently to buy a bass off him. Great guy and obviously someone who is trustworthy and has been great to deal with! Also, this is a bargain.
3. Thank you very much. I'm sure I don't deserve it
4.
Wow, wish I had one of those!! Glad you're enjoying it Chris. Yeah, the knobs are a bit pants but that's fairly common even for high end basses in my experience. But why do they put crummy 10p knobs on a £1500 instrument? Who knows. (I'm looking at you, Spector!)
Oh I don't know . And they are seeming quite difficult to take off.
5. Well, after trying to hang these b**tards up, and being greeted with diamond encrusted walls (or at least my drill thinks so..) i'm having to sell these on after buying them brand new. They are unused and so how does £7 each + £2.50 shipping sound? I did get a quote for the shipping and it is actually £2.50 for second class. What a rip off! Same shipping price applies if you buy them both. Payment by Paypal only please!
6.
Congrats Chris! Awesome score dude, I'm glad you've found the right bass (eventially!)! Has the G&L sold then? Happy Birthday too!
It certainly did!
Now that is one nice looking bass. Any idea how it compares to the SR505?
Without sounding too biased, it does blow the 505 out the water. The 505 is a great bass, but I was trying it out a few months back and the B string on it was something that stopped me from considering it. But then this bass has shown me that a well-made, 34" scale bass can have a killer B string! Thanks for the tips about the knobs guys, i'll certainly check them all out.
7. So here's my new Ibanez Prestige 4005E, courtesy of a very friendly Basschatter from further south! It was my birthday yesterday, and he generously agreed to meet up half-way at fairly short notice. I rushed home and opened it up and, wow, what a bass. I've been after a decent Ibanez for a long long while as I prefer the neck and string spacing on these. I didn't have to try it before I bought it to know how good it was and it is certainly the nicest bass i've played to date. It has a great range of sounds and feels really easy to play.My only gripe with it is the knobs, they're a bit ugly! And finding replacement ones that aren't so unattractive is quite difficult, so if anyone 'knows a guy' lemme know! Some beautiful grain in the neck!
8. Do they exist? This bass is the nicest and prettiest bass i've ever played or even seen in my whole entire life, and yet when I touch the knobs, I get immediately depressed at how crappy they feel. It's not so much the look (although that is part of it) but more the feel of them. They are cheap and rubbery. Are there any sites that do replacement knobs that would be good for this bass? It's an Ibanez 4005E and i've scoured the internet and found literally nothing. Any help at all is appreciated!
9. They have these at one of the practice rooms i've been to and they are brilliant!
10. Beautiful bass.
11. Less puns than 'How It's Made' as well, which is always a good thing.
12. Hi guys. I've had an offer of a combo amp, the one in the title. This one here http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.asp?section=mag&ID=78. When it comes to amps, i'm completely lost and this will be my first purchase past a practice amp. I've tried it out, and it sound okay to me, but is there anything I need to be aware of with this particular model, or just in general? I do play a lot of prog and heavier metal and I realise that some amps are catered to that. The Evo II seems to cater to all styles fairly well, but any opinions are welcome. And what sort of price should I be pushing for for a second hand version (that is in fairly good condition)?
13. Free bump for a very polite and trusted Basschatter!
14. Well, I hope this counts as helpful. Played a number of 5 string basses (while in the 'early learning' phase ) and landed on an Ibanez BTB575. It stood out because of its solid B string and after getting home, I realised that it was because of its 35" scale. I loved it to bits and found that it differed to a 4 string in a way that I liked. I owned it for quite a while and decided that if I was comfortable with a 5 string, it would be silly not to buy another one to replace my Ibanez, so I bought another one and was still loving it, up to the point where I sold it. And so now i'm looking for another 5 string to replace it. It sounds strange too, but I didn't get on much with my previous 5 string, whereas my Ibanez made me feel like the B string should be played more often because it sounded to clear and bright.
15. Alex came to collect a G&L bass off me today. Splendid meeting the guy and he was polite and paid the correct amount of money! Fancy that! Cheers again man.
16. Shame about the "little dong".
17. I dunno, but if you find out, let me know.
18. Bump.
19. Bumping.

22. It was a choice between bass and piano for me. So I picked one.
