  1. Hi folks. First time posting on this forum. I know this has probably been discussed time and time again, but I have never really found any good solid advice regarding eliminating those horrible overtones that can emanate from a B-string. So I thought I'd try kick the subject around here on Basschat and hopefully hear from some players who have tackled this issue. I'm primarily a 5 string player myself, and from time to time the issue of a nasty sounding B-string raises its ugly head for me, usually above the 5th fret, with very noticeable differences between similar pitches on other strings(G played on the 3rd fret of the E sting and 8th fret of the B for example). I've been trying different brands, gauges, materials, cores, tapered and non-tapered strings with varying degrees of success. However I am not made of money, and there's a growing heap of discarded string sets in the corner of my man-cave, some of which have literally been attached to my bass for a few minutes and then taken off. Recently I have tried tapered strings, of which one brand in particular seemed to reduce the issue considerably, another brand(non tapered) have yielded good results for me with their nickel sets. At this stage it all seems a bit random to me and I have almost accepted the idea that I will just have to continue searching and experimenting. I have attached an audio file to demonstrate. First I play a note on the B string and the the same note again on the E sting, hopefully it is evident to all as to what I'm talking about. Any and all discussion/advice is welcomed. Regards and seasons greetings, Hammeron. overtones.mp3
  2. The bass is now sold, my thanks to everyone for their interest!
  3. Some people have been asking me about the last picture where the bass looks amazing. Well the picture was touched up with filters in the photo app on my iPhone. Here’s the original unfiltered picture:
  4. Hello, This is Cyril from FB? I have been looking for a Flea Jazz Bass, but unfortunately I am not interested in the TRB, if you can make me a cash offer plus the Flea, then yes we can have a deal. Best regards, Steve.
  5. Yep, loads of help around here!! Thanks.
  6. Hi everyone, A couple of members were asking me about audio clips of this bass. I don't currently have any means to record at home right now, but I did make this little clip about 2 months ago, on GarageBand and my iPhone, messing around and sloppy playing but you can hear how the bass sounds. Please use earphones. Thanks, Steve.
  7. iPhone filters!! But yes the wood grain comes out beautifully.
  8. Custom built Jazz 5 by Swiss luthier Tino Tedesco. DiMarzio Ultra Jazz Pickups. Aguilar Preamp. Hipshot bridge and tuners. Removable Walnut ramp. Weighs around 7.5lbs. (7lbs 9oz) Great sounding B string, super lightweight, nice pre. I’ve been using this bass as my main gigging bass for over a year now, I really like it, but I’m returning to another instrument of mine and I find switching back and forth between basses to be frustrating, so I’m letting this beautiful bass go. Open to offers and trades. Hunting for Flea Jazz Bass + cash. Thinking.mp4
  9. Hi, Interested in trades?
  10. The bass is now sold. I would like to thank all those who expressed their interest. Steve.
  11. Hi Schnozzalee, Yes I am in Dublin, Ireland.
  12. I gigged this bass tonight folks, in all honesty I am not a P-bass player, I find that my RH touch is more suited to playing over the back pickup of a Jazz Bass, as I have been for years.....but...I nearly had a change of heart after tonight’s gig, this bass sounds GREAT!
  13. Hey Cameron, I’m not sure man, a few people have suggested that it is a Nordy pup.
  14. Hi folks. Recently acquired US Lakland BG 5. Near mint condition, I am the 2nd owner, the original owner purchased directly from Lakland. Strung with TI flats, comes with original Lakland case. I received this instrument as part of a trade deal, I’m just not a P-bass player, but take my word for it this instrument sounds very good. See below a short clip of me playing this bass direct into GarageBand with no effects or eq’ing, just a bit of foam under the bridge. Open to trade offers. 0D0ED0F3-7657-466E-8985-9B45DABA75BF.MOV
  15. Beautiful bass, how goes it with shipping from Russia to the EU and vice versa?
  16. Hi Karabass. Sorry, I didn’t see your post earlier. The string spacing at the bridge is 19mm.
  17. Thanks Binky, Yes Nordstrand make the best pickups in my view. A great company to deal with too. I had acquired a set of Nordstrand jazz bass pups second hand but un-used, however they didn’t fit in my bass so I mailed Nordstrand to see if there was any solution I could try, they offered to wind me a new set in exchange for the set I had, I had to pay postage and the difference in model price(which was a small fee), I was very happy with this result. They are no1 for me now.
  18. Hey Gillento, Thank you. Nordy’s are definitely underrated, the sound is just amazing.
  19. Nordy VJ5 5-string. Made in the US by Carey Nordstrand. Has Nordstrand Big Single(I think) pickups and a Nordstrand onboard pre-amp. The stock plastic knobs have been swapped out for black steel knobs bought from the John East website(original knobs supplied on request). Serial no: 195 Lightweight instrument(3.7kg). 34.5” scale. Near mint condition. Trade only for a good 5 string.
  20. Bass is now sold, my thanks to all who expressed their interest.
