Righto, off to day 1 (of 4) today and I aim to keep you posted in a blog stylie, in case anyone else fancies it next year. After 25-odd years of playing at amatuer level - gigs, recording, mini-tours, I have blown me back pay on this! I am sure I'll be surrounded by 12 & 13 year-old prodigys, but what the heck, eh? I can flog 'em fags & booze behind the bike sheds. One of me mates has recently turned to the dark side (boo-hiss), and lent me his '78/'79 'Ray, which is somewhat different to play than my GL Jazz, so to make things more exciting for myself, I'm taking this along. Obviously the neck is somewhat larger (twice as thick ) but we all need a challenge! Ok, I'm off to learn some song written by people younger then me 'Ray. Wish me luck! Laters.

Congratulations - you are now a 3-piece + vocals. This means you can play chords and use more runs to fill the sound out and you're not competing with 2 guits. Oh dear, less guitar w***ing - so sad, too bad. Enjoy it, play brilliantly as I'm sure you will and get the buzz going about how good you are without him. And leave a pyropastie on his doorstep. Every night for a month.
A bit of a late update, but here is the newest addition to the Higgie Bass Army!! Sorry for the sh*te pic n'all, maybe better pics coming later if I be bothered!!
Nice. I've just taken 'loan' of a pre-EB 'Ray and can see it usurping me GL Jazz!
So what are you getting extra for the cash ? The prestige of saying it was UK made ?
But everyone knows this makes it sound better.
...anyone else feel the need to play more than they do now?
Yes, just done it - first get-together last night with drums & guit doing psych / rock / stoner stuff, hadn't played a song of more than 3 minutes since about 1991 - most enjoyable. After 25 years of playing with 2-guits, a 3-piece is a breath of fresh air. The guitarist is an ex-bassist & good mate and has just given me his pre-EB 'Ray to service and take care of 'long-term' too - nice. Used a Hartke HA3500 & Transporter 4x10 in the rehearsal room though - not nice at all, I'll take the ABM combo next time. Strangely enough, I preferred the 'Ray neck to me GL Jazz - it just felt better when I was giving it some. Heavy, slab sided and fat-necked - everything I hate but I loved it. Let's hope he doesn't take it back too soon. Or indeed ever.
I suscribe to the theory that all mistakes and playing limitations can be overcome by volume and "front".
True words indeed, Sir. Welcome. Now hide the credit card.
It is a Hondo, an H1015, to be exact. - and they're not too bad. This is early 80s, post-copy era stuff, Hondo were trying to go a bit more upmarket with original designs, some made in Japan (Matsumoku was one of the factories they used) & DiMarzio pickups fitted as standard. 70s Hondos were pretty much universally Korean-made plywood trash & deserved the poor reputation, but later ones like this are a bit higher up the food chain. This particular model of bass turns up on Fleabay very regularly, usually sells for well under a ton, if you're interested. Jon.
Jon, you are indeed the Carol Vorderman of Jap crap - I salute you. [s]Do you share any other of Carol's alleged habits?[/s]

Post-gig "hangover" symptoms (not booze-related!)
johnnylager replied to Captain Bassman's topic in General Discussion
Post gig regimen - Back to guitards house, get pished on cheap cooking lager, put on David Coverdale wigs and headbang to 'Back in Black' - the whole album mind, at a volume that makes the thermal cut-out on his posh audiophile amp cut in. Or should that be cut out? You're guaranteed to feel so dreadful the next day, the post gig comedown will not get a look in. Then leave him to apologise to his neighbours. -
Damage Inc. at a very high volume, through a good hi-fi system, equals smiles and goosebumps time
Oh yes. -
Nope, never needed one either. Or indeed ever had one.

The whining fan on me 'pooter. -
Christ, over 24 hours and no-one wants it. The last one went in 2 hours & the one before that 24 minutes. I blame the Daily Mail. Have a 'good luck mate, I wish EDF hadn't screwed me for an increase of approximately 2 and a half of these in next years fuel bill or I'd bite yer arm off for it' bump on me son.

I used to have it in a 14u shock rack on wheels with a few other bits and in the end our crew wouldnt move it.
Bloody hell.
