1.
My band's lead guitar/vocals is desperate to do 'Every Day Is Like Sunday' by Morrissey. The original track starts off with a lovely slide on the A string up from C to the tenth fret which gives a real Joy Division/New Order sound (there's even an analogue synth under the note). But the band want to do the track in the key of G not C. The same 3 - 10 slide on the E string doesn't have that Northern atmospheric grimness to it. What's going on? Should I restring down one gauge to get that tone or do I risk the flabbiness problem that 5 string players complain of? I'm intrigued by the possibilities of 5/6 stringers allowing easy pitch shifts but wonder how much leeway there is with gauges etc.
Tell 'em to shove it. (Mods: wrong forum?)

 5.
I found them great for fingerstyle, but once you throw in a bit of plectrum the coating comes off very quickly.
Doesn't it just!
 6.
And a cordless circular saw
EDIT: I take it back, they actually exist. Well I never.
 7.
How do you stop a shiny bit of plastic slipping out of your sweaty fingers after about 20 notes for example?
Try Tortex ones. I am a right diaphoretic bastard, yet these stay in place jolly well. I would play exclusively with fingers (I learnt this way) like me heroes Harris, Butler, Burton, Lee, Claypool, Boothroyd et al, but the pick sounds better in the context of the din we currently play. I am however fortunate to be able to play equally badly with both. I won't be bringing one to the bash though, so fret (sic) not, my non-scratchplate brethren!

 10.
Lovely, thanks for the advice When you say string cleaner, is there such a dedicated product? I have WD40 and a rag, but if there is something better I can use then i'd rather do that. Cheers
These might be worth a punt...
 11.
From experience, DR lowriders are the best sounding longest lasting strings i've used.
Indeed. I got a whole gig out of mine! Pleading with DR didn't help either. They sounded f***ing great for that gig though. No, they really did.

 13.
Can somebody explain what the difference is between the Para driver and Bass driver DI is??
Yes. The Paradriver has a sweepable mid control rather than a presence knob. I've owned both and much prefer the Paradriver. (From the same bloke Silddx & Clarkey used, I think).
I heard that the para driver overdrive was very different to the bass driver, has anyone played both and is able to comment of the difference?
Yes, very little. The sweepable mid can add definition to the OD, but there is less top end sparkle (and hiss) the presence control adds. It sounds brutal with drive on full being fed by the Hyperdrive on full. /gibbers/ For my money, I'd get the Paradriver again. Though if it came down an insurance job, I'd probably take the money to replace it at UK prices & get the EBS Microbass II.

 22. Sir, Have a 'Please increase the price and move even further away from the south coast as I would like to remain married and have access to my daughter and these endless threads of ridiculously low-priced quality basses for sale are doing my swede right in mush' bump. I thank you.

In my old band we once played 2 songs in the dark.. and I mean it was completely pitch black.
