1.
Well, that's interesting. Seems like the consistent advice here is to not upgrade the Yamaha, because it's pretty decent already. I rather like the advice to "buy a new guitar"... But I only have about £200. Anybody got a half-decent mexican precision??
Squier VMP? Played one, want one, but have observant wife.
 2. New strings, the S-1 set to series for the powerful stuff, reign it in with the MutiComp, low boost from the Bass Xciter, mid boost on the amp, nice bit of valve dirt and bosh - pure rock. For the quieter stuff - S-1 back to parallel so the lower output doesn't push the valve as hard roll the bridge off a bit and bosh - pure everything else. I can get away with just about any amp if I'm using someone elses by using the SansAmp for the dirt. Like Nik says, good thread mate!
 3. Sandberg California JM4 pics please!
 4.
...the screams of "encore" from an almost silent audience...
Or 'f*** off / you're sh*t' etc! or is that just me?
 5. ^^ What he said - we all started somewhere, right?
 6. Try 'em both. FWIW, I used to distort the compressed signal (bass>compressor>fuzz), but found a better sound by compresing the distorted signal (bass>fuzz>compressor), with advice from this very forum. And congratulation on the purchase, I'm jealous.
 7.
Surrey has one of the lowest crime rates in the UK. Are you within 5 miles of Godalming? Do you have a dog? Do you have an alarm? Are you out between 07.00 and 17.30? Can the serial numbers be removed? Do you think I have GAS?
I'll drive
 8.
Besides - Warwick owners insist their basses are so good I'm surprised they'd need upgrades
Maybe some scented rubbing waxes though.... /runs/
 9.

Your sax player looks like he fancies your singer.
 10.
Yep, Muse.
Muse again for me. So the singer reckons, I really can't remember TBH.
 11.
his technique in fact is very sloppy
Aye sloppy as f***. NOT
 12.
You could always cover them with FretFx LED's, which can be made to be in the correct place for you.... This is also then reversible, leaving your bass in original condition should you ever wish/need to sell... www.fretfx.com
I've thought about these - do they actually come off ok though? Anyone?
 13.
AREA,you're avatar rocks !!
The 'in-offs' are the best.
 14.
Travelodge? This is at the Holiday Inn
Coaster obviously means the alternative bash for lefties only
 15. Alas, me mates bird has demanded his attendance at a party on Saturday, leaving me in the lurch with a spare standing ticket for this stupendous looking gig. Bastard. If anyone fancies an evening of the finest retro NWOBHM (no 90's sh*te here mate), I'd very much like to get face value for it - that's £55 to you son - in a vain attempt to keep Mr Egg happy. Sensible offers also considered. If any interested parties would care to PM me, I may well be imbibing lager / mojitos (I'm right posh, me) in the Richmond area from about 2pm for a cash pickup... Here's some Harris to tempt you...That tone knob is disconnected, don't you know...
 16.
What about Punk basslines?
Big Dick - nomeansno (no guitars either).
 17.
I'd be more like 'Yikes, this room smells of dead guy. Hey check it out - zombie Jaco. Nice rig, Jacks. What are you doing? No! Back off, Jaco! No - not my brains!!!!! Noooooooooooooooooo!'
Until I read this, I was unaware that you could choke on soggy Weetabix, nice one sleepy! Now come and help me get them out of the keyboard, smartarse.
 18.
See now I have this belief that there's a lot of bassists missing out on what a really good 15" can do on its own. People equate 'punch' with 10" speakers probably because most of the 15"s they hear are the terrible ones in cheap combos. I shall bring a couple of my cabs to the SE Bass Bash and see if I'm not alone in my enjoyment of that big speaker goodness. Alex
Aye. Peavey Combo 300 15" BW - sh*te, Sunn 215B - beautiful. Bring me to back to the 15" fold at the bash, boy!
 19. I must admit when i first read this post, I thought the band Extreme were reforming for Reading Festival. Thank Christ they're not, eh?
 20. Try Ashdown, I did but for some reason they never answer my emails and I haven't got round to 'phoning them yet. Tell them your Matt from brum, he has no trouble getting replies Let us know though mate, I might doing something simlar with me 2x10 combo...
 21.
Wizard 84s - UK made fabbo jobs and not silly money
+1 and then some.
 22.
NoMeansNo are great, super underrated bass player.
And quite, quite mad. Gets up the dusty end too.
 23.
The LMB-3 is a great limiter, but god knows what they're trying to do with the enhance knob.
Sure is good, the enhance knob though - don't you like tinny hiss?
 24.
Blimey! I can't do that Re: punk, its fantastic live music, really gets pulses racing although there's good (Pistols, Stranglers, Damned, Ruts, Buzzcocks etc) and bad (Oi bands, American-pseudo punk etc). Sorry for self-serving ad here, but - if you like punk and you have a couple of minutes to spare - check out my band Kismetik on Myspace for some fast punk mixed up with surf/psychobilly guitar and even an Ennio Morricone-inspired punk hoedown (Drunk at the Wake). If anyone likes it and lives in London, we're on at the Bullet bar in Camden tonight at 9.30pm Cheers Clarky
Top tunes mate, good luck with the gig but I've used up this weeks gig priviledges with Maiden on Saturday! Check out Evolve for similar, though we always sound a bit gay in the studio - I'll add you.
Well, the good and bad there is a matter of taste really, I love bands like NOFX, NoMeansNo, Decendents, Bad Religion etc, which may well fall under your american-pseudo punk bracket...
Nomeansno - saw them (again) recently - superb. The Hanson Brothers are touring in Nov...
