2. Yes. Fat & P-sounding with the 84's in series, warm & jazzy in parallel. Nice growl too.
 3.
I'm thinking about going for something hideous like Surf Green - so bad it's good.
Yeah!
 4.
Put it this way, I use combos at the moment (and love them) but I'm always toying with the idea of going back to a head+cab set up. Make of that what you will!
Me too. Now I'd buy a stack though, with Class D SMPS amp and (multiple?) lightweight neo cabs.
 5. Bad form quoting oneself and the following statement may well get me ejected from BC, but you should all know my crime.
Me old Marshall stack.
For a Pervy MkIV head. At least it had a Sunn 2x15 with it. And it all fitted in the back of me Metro better than the 4x12. Excuses, excuses...
 6.
Have you heard 'No Quarter'?
Can't recall 'em but I'll be hunting through me NWOBHM archives tonight mate Full review tomorrow...
...the genre holds few surprises for me, especially bass-wise...
True enough, that's probably why I like it. And can play it
 7.
NWOBHM B listers 'No Quarter' - featured on 'Heavy Metal Heroes Volume Two' and a Friday Rock Show Session in '82. One 12 inch EP, Survivors, now goes for £40 on the internet. My 15 mintes of fame.
Superb. What made you go to the [s]dark[/s] jazz side?
 8. Me old Marshall stack.
 9. LunchHead, 3-piece - remember practising in the Portsmouth Poly teachers staff room after hours. Can't remember anything else though, it was 1985 FFS.
 10.
Thanks everyone for your input. Luke FRC I hear you and that is sound advice. I do actually like my Squier bass, but I'm playing through a 15w Fender amp, which isn't powerful enough really. So my first upgrade will be the amp, but I will hang on to the guitar for a while at least.
Good man, get better amp, join band, play gigs, get hooked, life over, welcome!
 11. What WAT & Jase said. Our sh*te PA does vox, bass drum and maybe snare. But we tend to play the less salubrious venue as we're pretty sh*te TBH Big PA and spot-on soundman at Havant Arts Centre in a couple of weeks though, woo-hoo
 12.
Yes he is
1. Bad. 2. And jealous. 3. And trying to find enough money for Shuttle and a nice pair of 12's to go with it. 4. Without selling - a wife, b daughter, c organs, d car 5. And somewhere to hide it if I don't do 4a At least transport wouldn't be so much of an issue if I did 4d. Spare 1500 quid anyone? (Yes, I've priced it up)
 13.
I will be very surprised if anyone [s]who[/s] gets a Shuttle 6.0 [s]is disappointed by it...[/s]
...this Year.
 14.
yes please! Afraid I couldn't get down to collect though, I'm on crutches at the moment due to a "gardening" accident (very Spinal Tap), so can't drive. How do you want to handle payment etc?
PM'd
 15.
And I am told that "Well, why do you need 20 huge skirts when you can only squeeze your arse into one at a time?" is to be avoided too
I wish I'd read your post yesterday. Also remember not to ask "Were you lying then or are you lying now?"
 16.
Thanks everyone for some excellent replies and great advice - I'm convinced and the search for a bass and practice amp has started.
Might I suggest this..?
 17.
Still trying to get my head around the notion of my wife daring to remove the scratchplate from my bass ...
Then there's the mechanics of screwdriver verses scratchable finish on bass....
 18.
However, the fact is that it's not brilliant, and doesn't give the kind of lasting callus you need. Unfortunately, the best course is to let the blister heal, then practise just enough every day as to avoid getting another and gradually build up hard skin.
Truth.
 19.
I heard some "man in the pub" advice from a guy at work suggesting dipping fingers in Surgical Spirit every night to harden them up, but is that just an old wives tale? Any advice appreciated.
Utter rubbish. (IMHO). Link
 20.
Loved his lines in 'wanna be straight???!?!?!?!?!!!??????? D'reckon he does?
He might want to be.... Top avatar!
 21.
Duracells definitely make the best sound - due to their heavier weight, they produce a far more satisfying "thump" when they hit our vocalist.
22.
This really hurts to let go but I just cant get used to the wide neck.
Stunning bass Perry, if it wasn't for the neck I'd bite yer hand off. Have you thought about a new neck? 23.
Looks like he boosts the mids so he can hear himself as opposed to just feeling the bass on stage..
I'm not alone!
 24.
Just popped into my local PMT at Northampton and tried out the JLo hyperdrive. Initial impressions, very solidly built piece of kit. Tried it out for 20 mins and have ended up buying it! The clincher £49! Think I may have had the last one! Will post some impressions in the future D
50 quid? Lucky sod, beers on Dunc!
 25. Far be it for me to read another forum, but I've just spent the last hour reading this. If, like me, you might be a bit of a gear nerd, especially of the Geddy Lee variety, then as Steve says - get the kettle on and start wading... Fantastic. Thanks Steve, I owe you a pint mush.
Geddy's own bass tech, Russ Ryan, has posted loads about Geddy's set up here. It covers the Trace Elliot amps and I think there's mention of his in-ears but don't quote me. Just make a cup of tea, set aside an hour or two and wade through the tons of posts
