1. Space 1999 - John McCoy of Gillan / Mammoth fame provides the bottom 4 for the title music. On acid. Interview.
  2.
In my (limited) experience, funk is just an excuse for a couple of guitarists to sit on a repetitive riff in A/E for 20 minutes while they trade the same licks at each other as if they just invented them.
Try this with bass, drums & Fender Rhodes. While the guitarist is still plugging everything in. It might change your mind.
  3. Lark in the Park for me - you got any more details Nik?
  4.
Old rockers never die, they just smell funny from all the embalming fluid they've consumed.
And other fluids they are leaking.
  5.
Matt Freeman from Rancid was mentioned way back. But he's actually brilliant. Maxwell Murder's a 'must hear' track, phenomenal solo. He only plays finger-style too.
Not with Operation Ivy he didn't, nor here. Though I admit the internet often lies like a bitch. And Freeman is jolly good whatever.
  6.
Machines will know...!
Told you.
  7. 2 more bands of EQ & a valve pre-amp with the ABM. I like me ABM (marmite head), but I've not tried the MAG's... Machines will know...!
  8. If one could could crash the metaphorical yoghurt truck merely by looking at pictures of bass guitars, I would indeed have just crashed the metaphorical yoghurt truck merely by looking at pictures of bass guitars.
  9.
With my new band I don't think i'll really be able to use it .
"Accidently" turn it on. Then Noodle. What will they do, sack you mid gig...!?
  10.
I just hope no-one has a RIM bass...
tBBC...?

    Ridiculous idea. Want one.
  12.
I spelt it with 2 t's until I looked at my Birth Certificate when I was about 20 and realised there was only one t I was named after the maternity nurse (a Mrs Mathews apparently) - good thing she wasn't Mrs Berk
Or indeed, Dr. De'Ath. I also suffered the t problem. Now I just use M. With one M. M for middle, easy.
  13.
Distortion before compression means that your playing dynamics can still fully react with the dirt pedal, while the compressor does whatever you've set it to do.
I will try this, ta.
  14.
...and then just hit my bass really hard around the bottom of the neck.
This is the correct way, no? Doesn't everyone?
  15. After reading some excellent intros and realising I've not done one yet, I thought I'd do a crap one. John, Pompey 'till 2001, now in Newhaven and oi well loikes the footer mush. I've played through all the sh*te gear in the world before settling on me current rig - a self-[s]butchered[/s] modded Geddy Lee, an Ashdown ABM rig, a few pedals (one bought off here, ta) and use pleccy, fingers & slap depending on the [s]din[/s] song. Old heroes are Harris, Burton, Butler, John McCoy (he played bass on the Space 1999 theme, don'tyou know) & Glenn Hughes, newer ones are Rob Wright, Larry Boothroyd & Les Claypool. Been playing [s]original[/s] derivative rock/punk/funk country in Evolve for 20-odd years with the same songs about drugs, misogyny eco-armageddon and serial killers that were current then and are just coming back in. Also depped for blues, psych & full-on metal bands. Would love to be in a NWOBHM tribute band. Or a 3-piece punk band, now I think about it. I'm (reasonably) happy with me current set-up ( ), but would like it all to be lighter. And with more basses, etc. Ta for listening, John.
  16.
Portsmouth had a pretty decent music scene in the late 80's to early 90's
Wee, Pompey mush, cushty! Still has! Welcome!
  17. Musical integrity... none whatsoever, I would play anything, even in a Bros tribute band as long as I was playing more often. The problem is making the time to do it with work, a new baby, the wife, football, actually taking some exercise and GTA IV to deal with.
  18.
Oh... and for those who care.. I play with a pick
Picks rock.
  19.
Mhm, now after looking at more basses for extended periods of time, I'm thinking of going for a Geddy Lee Sig or a Marcus Miller Jazz bass instead, anyone know if they are any good?
Horses for courses mush, play them all. I love me Geddy Lee (which is why I bang on about at every opportunity), but it doesn't stop me wanting a Sterling [s]or[/s] and a VMP Bloody GAS :brow:
  20.
Least favourite is the Geddy Lee black on white look, which has grown on me, but is a little bit contrasty for me.
Black on black looks good on Geddy Lee...
  21.
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MyMusicStuff Si
Nice one, how long was delivery?
  22. Gutted. I've got a Planet Waves Comfort Wide Nylon 3 incher. Stop it children! Cheap & cheerful.
  23.
but you live and learn
I bloody wish
  24. Entirely self-taught (for better or worse!). I did religiously watch / play along with those "Learn to play... Bass" things (the one with that funnny gadgey & his mate with the natural Jazz & the Ampeg half stack) that were on the Musicians Channel (RIP) last year, only to realise it was so basic that I could do already it all (not being big-headed, just saying like). It gave me the names for it all though. Which I've now forgotten. Just enrolled in the Kerrang! ultimate metal summer school in Brighton though, for the first tuition in 23-odd years! Rock on Tommy!
  25. I was thinking of swapping me ABM 2x10 deep with a 1x15, but after A/Bing them, I preferred the sound of the 2x10 with me ABM 2x10 combo. More mid, so more cut IMHO, the ferret will know why...
