1.
been nagging me for a while so i'll ask here, does anyone really notice the subharmonic generator with it on or do you really need something like a sub cab to get the effect from it? i just figured mine did not much at all.
Seems to work ok on single notes up the dusty end (when turned up full), but what Machines said really.
  2.
Ok - so now I've got a BadAss 2 on the way and I'm on the verge of ordering a set of Wizard 64s, I now need to decide on which tuning machines to buy, and where from. I am considering a D-Tuner/Bass XTender key for the low E on both my Jazz and my Streamer Std so I was wondering if Hipshot would be the best all round bet as I could reduce postage by getting everything at once. Would it be best to order direct from Hishot's website or are their better places to buy from? Which model of machines will fit a Squier VM Jazz? Are the Lite versions of the trad machines worth the extra cost? I'm also worried that losing mass at the headstock could adversely affect tone.
I got a Hipshot BT-2 (from Thomann) on me Geddy Lee. If you are unsure about which model you need, try asking Hipshot directly, they are really helpful - I rounded grub screw off by using what was supposedly a 1/16" allen key (thanks B&Q) and they sent me 2 new grub screws & a 1/16" allen key for nowt. As for going lite, I wouldn't, them necks are skinny enough! (IMO) And 84's are les couilles du chien mush, if you're thinking Wizards (IMO again). Speak to Andy, tell him what you want and he'll tell you what you need...
  3. QUOTE (ste_m3 @ Apr 24 2008, 06:37 PM) My only suggestion would be that if you think you can get mroe money on ebay for it, then thats exactly what you should do. Wheres the community spirit eh! we're basically beating inflation with this place! Yup.
  4. Anything that other band members do that wind you up? Breathe. It's a bad day.
  5. Welcome Ray. Bloody hell, you've got some kit. I'm sure you'll "need" even more after a while on here!
  6. Waterloovile social club. Like bloody Phoenix Nights, but scarier. Until the guiarist pointed out that I was probaly the scariest looking bloke in there. We then made a small child cry and were asked to turn down and finish up early. They like covers bands (apparently), but the sh*te we play wasn't the most popular.
  7. The drummer who whacks his f***ing snare drum just as I'm bending down to plug something in right next to it. I've taken to threatening him when going anywhere near the kit now and this seems to work just fine.
  8. Thanks very much lads, more bloody GAS. Just to ruin everyone elses day - look here
I'd also like it to be (one fat) man portable please.
Guaranteed. I speak from [s]bitter[/s] lager experience.
  10. Earl Faulkner off UB40 had some sub thing that he stood on to "feel the bass". Only a few inches tall. I want one of those. Probably no help to you though, but there you go - the joy of forums. The ABM low-pass is 160hz IIRC, so owt that kicks below that, I guess...?
  11. I did these - Wizard 84's, JSP series/parallel switching, D-tuner, and I love 'em. It already had a Bad Ass II on it. Good luck, John.
  12.
More a case of 'witch' passive J pups at the mo!! http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/shop.asp?category=Bass
Ba-dum, tish!
And if you look around the site more you'll find a bunch of us raving about them.
Raving? More like dribbling. Oh, the pads leaking... 84's all the way.

    Hi
Am in north Kent, born and bred lol
Welcome. Kent? Uh oh, tBBC country. Cross the road if you see a red beret walking towards you.
  14.
Great bass, lovely stories - and a good dinner time read as well Thanks
Indeed. A fine accompaniment to my bacon sarnie. Toasted no less.
  15.
but if we turned down we wouldn't have been able to hear ourselves over the drummer.
Get him some of these for his birthday!
  16. Yup. MultiComp.
  17.
A question to anyone who has fitted Wizard pickups into CIJ reissue basses - are they direct replacement and no modification is needed? In particular the eighty-fours into a CIJ Jazz 62RI and the thumper into a CIJ P 62RI?
I put 84's into me CIJ Geddy Lee. Dropped straight in, no scratchplate mods needed either. DO IT!

    Distortions

The SansAmp Para Driver DI - monster OD when I'm not using it as a direct DI (which most of the time as there's a a tube in the ABM). The sweepable mid gets it right where you want it and the blend knob keeps the bottom end intact. Bloody expensive fuzz box though, even though I somehow avoided import duty. Shhh... Edited for spelling!
  19. Tuners all the way for me, that mute is invaluable. An Arion HU-8500 'till it grew legs, then a Boss TU-2. The Arion mysteriously reappeared on Saturday night though, in my guitarists pedal chain. Unless of course he'd bought a new one, immediately lost the white plastic cover and scratched "John" on the bottom of it. John.
  20. Me Geddy Lee with Wizard 84's, series switching & (now) a D-tuner. Love it to death. £550 new & £200 odd of mods. Best monkey and a half I've ever spent.
  21.
unfortunately i dont have it. im getting it off a friend in a week or two, was really just wondering if it was any good and worth £100?
Cripes, there was one on fleabay for £350 odd 6 months ago. Bargain mush.
  22.
Did you get Free beer in the 'Gwynne? The owners like to lay on free drinks on their open mic nights
Oh yes and paid too much ! Top pub, I'm there before the footy every week too, no free beer then though! A recommended venue!
  23. The Nell Gwynne, Southsea, Sat 19th. After the hour of fixing the saddle of the guitarists Fender Jag, another hour failing to get the lighting loom on the trailer working we played a fair gig in the most bass-sucking room this year. Fixed benches all round, leaving a nice 2-foot gap between amp and wall. The pool table was handy for the guitarists 2x12 though. And why did Ashdown make the cab handles stick out just a little bit too much to safely turn the cabs on their sides? Doh! Nice to find a fault with the Ashdown like so many others here have though, I don't feel excluded anymore. Just need a Precision to really belong!
  24.
Hello everyone. I've been drumming for 27 odd years
A drummer for 27 years? - Christ on a bike man caulkie, how many livers have you gone through?
  25. Come and have a laugh at 4 overweight 30/40 somethings with mild anxiety/depression and a penchant for misogynistic punk / C&W. First person to mention Basschat gets a free pint. Out of the drummers rucksack though, so I can't guarantee it will be palatable and won't induce liver failure. Come and advise me on the finer aspects of keeping the D-tuner in tune! Laters, Lager.
