Highway Star tab, anyone got one it's driving me nuts
Jase replied to grimbeaver's topic in General Discussion
GREAT bassline! I love the little jumping bassline when Gillan screams 'I LOVE IT' etc, I think it's over the A chord?
YES! That's a killer part! -
Always the way these days, somebody comes in with something positive and interesting and out come the idiots....bit predictable and boring really. Tell you what...I'm going to do a "during the war " waffle....when I was an idiot I would've been really up for a forum where every now and then a name player comes in or people that are involved with a magazine chip in. I can't see why you don't use these things to your advantage instead of just spewing out utter sh*te and trying to be a comedian...get a grip. You make me sick.
Got the current BGM now and it's the best for ages IMHO. Well done all, keep up the good work, and listening to our ideas here.
Yep, have to agree with OG.
I was about to point you at Brycebites very handy Preamp Valve Comparison thread, which was a sticky at one point. Obviously it's not as useful as it once was, but there's probably still some useful info there before you need to look elsewhere. If I remember rightly he was at the time using a Hartke as his test bed.
+1

String height / action - I've learned a valuable lesson!
Jase replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
Strangely, I think the clunk, clank buzz and bark were drowning out the my growl. Now I've got loads of it.. Horses fer courses, though!
I mean like a fret growl or drag as opposed to a tone growl, if you get me. Mind you, the term "growl" is open for debate I suppose. -
If it sits in the mix ok, then fine...but sometimes a clankly bass can sound crap... and just too rough and ready for me. If it doesn't sound good as a standalone, then it isn't played well enough, IMHO.. Just my 2p...
A bit of clunk and clank, some buzz, bark and growl all add the the character of it's tone for me. Just my 2mm worth  -
Me too; both sorts! Sei Melt; 2mm at 12th across the board. Sei Flamboyant 5; 2mm B string going to just under 2mm on the G, both at the 12th. '72 Ric 4001; 2.5mm at the 12th E to just under 2 (call it 1&3/4) on the G. Bear in mind I consider the action on my Ric quite high. In fact I might see if I can get the Melt's action down a bit based on that....
All in favour of 2 mm or 2.5 mm.........\m/ -
I had a chat with these chaps:Watford Valves when I changed the valve in my LH-500. 12ax7's IIRC.
I have HUGE action but still tap loads :S Does this make me strange?! lol
Yes. Only kidding mush once the notes are fretted doesn't really matter about the action....does it??? -
When....Nobody leaves you any room to set your gear up at a gig.

I'm a low action type, no man rock set ups for me thank you very much! I can't be dealing with clambering over and around my strings and fretboard if I have a high action set up...gets a bit noisy though when a band wants to tune down to the dreaded semi-tone below. I love having girl action -
One of the best things to happen in Jazz for a long time, I love 'em!

I recently did a trade for this with BottomEndian, to see if I could get into more than four......No is the simple answer I've pinched BottomEndians original thread because it has a good description and nice pics! (Hope you don't mind mate) http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...3&hl=wesley cheers Jase.
Crossposted from another thread. So can anyone figure out what bass it is? Definitely custom with an interested headstock. Do you play heavier music with a fretless? How do you manage to cut through and keep the fretless mwaaaah? Cheers! Rob.
A question for the heavy fretless guys, how do you get on with hearing yourself for pitch and intonation, I'm not suggesting that because it's fretless we have to have flawless intonation etc, etc, far from it...play it how you feel I say.......but doesn't it get tricky with a heavy band to hear what's going on with a fretless? I know a young player who uses fretless with his super heavy band, how he does it I'll never know. I have to be able to hear everything when using my fretless in a live situation just so I can feel confident enough that my pitch isn't too far out.
