I've spoken to two people involved with the magazine.....I speak as I find, the two guys in question are very helpful, very approachable people. Agree with ferret, use it or lose it. It's now monthly, that's always a plus for my money.
Being an owner of both, I'd go for a Jazz if you're set on a Fender. The Jazz had a degree more panache than the P and it give more tonal variation. That said, also being an owner of a Lakland DJ5, I'd say go and get a Lakland. There's one for sale on the forum (not mine). P
+1 on Lakland. Agree with Ross too, mods on Fender basses sort it out!

Dimarzio's for me!

Ello, My band are looking/available for any support slots that any bands/promoters here might have to offer. From September onwards. We're willing to travel, we're reliable, we won't get in your way cheers Jase.

Fender Jazz US S1 Switch. 3T Sunburst, Tort Pguard, Dimarzio's, Hipshot (Not fitted at the moment) also some wear and tear. Looking for anyone interested in a straight swap...My J for your P or P/J config. (Maple board) Obviously I wouldn't expect anyone to offer nice new shiny P's because mine is a little "used"
-
I prefer to use and buy second hand Fender, only because I think they're over priced for what they are. My reason for using Fender is the simplicity of a J or P.
Utterly pointless comment.
It's always the same when a topic mentions "The dusty end"....like it's some sort of taboo and you'll be cursed if you venture there.
Just looks like a pair of egos to me.
There's ego with all players....no matter who we are or what we're playing, we all want to do our thing.
didn't think for a second you were, i was just saying that youre conclusion was incorrect.
Aww,give us a break....I wasn't far out.
i take it this was aimed at me? i dont give a toss what other people think i should look like, and i sure hope they dont give a toss about what i think others should look like. just cos i dont like ponytails doesnt mean id expect anyone to cut theirs off, that would be stupid. like you said, its fashion. and life would be boring if we all looked the same. and i dunno, what does constitute a fully grown man? thats also a matter of opinion. i know im allowed an opinion, i was joking because the person i quoted said he wasnt allowed an opinion because hes bald. but you got me all wrong. bills not a guitarist. i think hes a fantastic bass player, but he does use techniques more prominent in guitar. however, think this makes him, if anything, an even better bass player, because he's doing something not a lot of other bassists do, and he makes it work. and again, men 40+ with ponytails arent stupid. i got nothing against the men, i just dislike the ponytails. but its their hair, they can do what they like with it. if they like pponytails, its fine by me if they have a ponytail.
No worries mate...I'm not here to get personal, don't mind a bit of banter and I'm not having a go personally at you...tidy darts
i think billy sheehans excellent, he's one of my favourite players. ok, he might be a bit of a guitarist technique wise, but he's still brilliant. i'd much rather listen to him playing fast than say victor wooten or marcus miller double thumbing fast (i realise they're very different music and can't be compared, but i wasn't trying to compare them, i was just saying i'd rather listen to billy sheehan) +1 i can't stand fully grown men with a pony tail, it always looks silly to me. no offence meant towards people with pony tails on here, i just don't like em. but then again, i'm 16 and already got a receeding hair line, so i suppose im not allowed an opinion either.
Of course you're allowed an opinion...Bill's a guitarist and men 40+ with ponytails are stupid......that's basically you're opinion. Now......this is what gets my ponytail wagging (although I don't have it any more) but still...look further into players, in this case "Sheehan" is nothing like a guitar player, his "bass playing" is the real thing ROCK BASS PLAYING!!! You darn kids
So in effect..the 'Willpower' might be a better idea...as it matches a Fenders string spacing?
Yep I reckon it would, I'd go for the Willpower if I was doing it again.
-
Does that affect tone or output or anything??
I just raised the pole pieces to compensate, I only noticed a drop in volume on the bass end when bending the G string, it went up past the poles....moved away from them...if you get me. Other than that it didn't really effect the output.
-
Is that a Gibbo Fartbucker?? Looks silver.......
No, it was a Dimarzio. They're black but I took the paint off with paint stripper...it's the model that doesn't line up with the string spacing.
There *is* something a bit sad about guys over 40 with a pony tail. Mind you, I'm as bald as a baldy thing so I'm not sure I'm allowed an opinion.
I only got rid of mine less than a year ago, I'm 40....but still sad
You got any pics of the Modded Bass Jase??
I have a few, I sold it a while ago though....what a fool but here's me and my son around 10 years ago: I havea few more but not on my pc, i did it with a CIJ reissue too.
Wish I suffered from lack of soul/overdose of technique like that! In 25 years of playing I haven't got any further than throwing in a few blues scale licks here and there, although in fairness I probably stand more chance of getting rebooked at the Dog and Patridge on a Friday night, an ambition Billy might never fulfil I fear.
Yes, these legends have no chance stealing our toilet gigs!
Fair point.... just to be sexist as well as generalist, the song somehow gets much more tolerable here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC4sxJhW3tk
Tidy voice.
I don't care how good he is, he looks like a frustrated lead guitarist to me. One of the many. (ducking)

Quick trip to YouTube..... So that's who did that.... bloody awful soft rock IMHO. Gets coat blah blah... (Seriously, that was a number 1??)
Maybe so, but it's one you can hum to
-
He clearly knows his stuff.... it's hardly a song you can hum along to though, is it? It's another one of those "muso" bands that just doesn't seem to translate to the UK at all.
I dunno, some of the Mr Big stuff was quite commercial.
