Yamaha BB's
The only ones close to the originals are the BB3000 and BBX. Ones to go for are the BB1200, BB2000 or BB3000s (if you like a jazz type neck). The current BB3000 is OK (if you like a chunky neck) but the finish isn't as durable as the BB2000. The 80's korean built BB3000 basses (which include almost all the active ones) in particular are prone to finish flaking. The finish on the BB1200 and BB2000 is pretty much indestructible. Recent BB's are great basses as well though, although it would be nice if they offered one with a 1 3/4" neck like the original broad bass.
Thanks Mr Yamaha man!
2.
Good luck Jase, its a good area to find work, pit towns, citys both sides of the Severn......lotta money
Cheers Ross Well, money is my motivation in this case.....venues seem to be dropping the price of gigs, last year I wasn't losing money when gigging, this year it's started already. A drummer I know did the right thing....moved onto weddings, functions, etc. I make no bones about it, I'll play just about anything if it pays but on the flipside, I'd drop it all if my original band moved into a better position.
3. Well, I tried an EH valve tonight ...........not sure what I was supposed to be listening out for. While setting up, my sound seemed near enough the same as before, set my amp up to the usual settings and thought no more about it. Into the first number of the gig and I found myself backing off the bass and taking the volume down a little.....now, I'm not at all sure if this was the room??? or the valve??? I've played at the venue a few times, with the same band, same settings etc, etc. There seemed to be something extra there. I'll try again on Sunday.
4. Monster humbucker, I'd love one of those in my Jazz, never been a fan of the neck pick up....use mine mainly for a thumb rest.
5. Isn't old Lars going to do something with Deep Purple?......Disgusts me Ritchie would have none of it, I'm telling you!!!!
6. Bumping in moderation is fine I reckon.....once or twice a week maybe.
7. Looks a fine bass Mike, nice, comfy and worn. Looks a fine job on the ebony board.
8. Did you see the list of Luthiers? Luthiers.

10.
Will do a pic tonight, posted it in my previous post too
Aye, tidy!...yeah realised after I posted Amp knob pics it is then!
11.
Don't forget y'all that flat is 2,10,2 on the EQ, not 5,5,5. If you have the treble pot much above 0 then you're likely to be boosting the highs which will accentuate any noise. Effectively bass is boost only, mid is cut only and treble is boost only. Alex
Got my treble set at around 2 or 3, sometimes less, got me thinking now, I'll be listening for hiss on the weekend Alex.....think I'm going to do just that....try loads! Anyone want to show their settings?
12. They say it can get quite addictive....valve swapping. I've never done it, is there THAT much difference?
13. Just had a look at mine and it's Sovtek. Bought an EH and a Tesla from steve-norris, just put the EH in.... see what happens on the weekend.
14. Hi ash, maybe you could ask a luthier to re-radius the neck.
15. Just had a listen, they're doing some cool stuff!
16. First bass was : Vox Clubman From : Bought in 1980, my first bass. It cost : £ 10 Which today is : £ 34.80
17.
Woman by Wolfmother? pretty fast and shouty, but good fun!
That's the Band!! cheers! Yeah, some fun riffs to play in a few of their tracks IIRC.
18. Yes, we do Hole in the sky, Black Sabbath, we also did a track called Woman, ( I think that's what is was called) for our own enjoyment....can't think of the bands name now, big sort of hammond sound stuff.
19.
Hi Jase, listened to your songs, not usually my thing, but hey, you've got a great band there. Good luck with your search.
Thanks Chris

500 watts?

I'm using my LH500 and 810 at the moment in a twin guitar rock covers band, it's doing fine, no issues with not being heard.

24. From Jack's gear page on his site: "During the 1960s, Jack plugged his EB-3 into a stack of Marshall amps (Marshall 4x12s with Marshall 100 heads). His desire for greater volume induced him to crank up the volume control, unwittingly producing the heavy, distorted tone that became so popular in the ensuing years. Later, Jack had instrument technician Dan Armstrong install a diode into the EB-3's wiring to produce the same effect without overdriving his amplifiers."
