3. What sort of pick up is that in your avatar Paul?
 4. Well, I'm still here gassing like a looney....I never knew Stingrays were so expensive! Never thought I'd be looking at Stingrays and Yamaha!
 5.
Colin Hodgkinson OK I'll admit I've never heard of this dude before - so I looked at all the youtubes and it's clear that the guy is a serious musician - but (and I'm probably about to commit harikari) is it me or is he basically just a guitarist?! Pluck
Same here, I only ever saw his name on this forum......weirdly enough when first watching the clip I thought maybe he plays guitar too (nowt wrong with that) but then I thought perhaps he doesn't and just knows his sh*t
 6. Do you have any more pics and a sound clip by any chance?
 7. Great clip....nevermind the trousers.....who's got pics of that bass?
 8. Cheers, I'm going to enjoy this! It was Fender that pushed solo bass
 9.
Well, I met Billy years ago at one of his bass clinics in Wapping(yep ,that long ago) I found him the perfect gent, who is very modest despite being one of the best ever Bass players. (most people would probably agree with me on that score) Years ago I met Lemmy in the city mid afternoon. We chatted for about half an hour. How many so called rock star wannabe's would ever do that? Some would, but not many. Met Lemmy a few times after that, and he remembered me. B T W : Saw Mr. Big gig at Hammy O and the sound was dire, and the atmosphere was like kate moss's chest ..flat! Billy's solo was muffled and inaudible. Happens to the best of 'em I guess. Thing is , I think that you should take everyone as you see them and not worry about their beliefs. Live and let live etc. Is it true that Billy fell out with Paul Gilbert ,if so why?
Wapping...those were the days, I was there too Ampeg with "Billy's Back" promotion, wasn't there a guy from Uriah Heap there too? Still got the photo's somewhere and my signed Ampeg pic
not as baseball 'battish' as the attitude but fairly chunky! billy described it as a sort of pj hybrid, thin and fast but I have no idea what he was thinking on that! its not thin about p in size but fairly chunky front to back - its 42mm at the nut - it is though fast! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry348705 andy
Cheers Andy, looks great! From the pics the neck profile seems good too...just didn't want something like a Geddy profile. I notice the bridge is much better than the 414 and 614
 12.
Depping with a function band in the Celtic Manor hotel in Newport, S. Wales. Long night - 6pm soundcheck, 5 other acts on first, finish our third set at 1.30am but the money is very good Cheers Alun
Very posh...best get your skates on mate
 13. Just wondered how many of us are out gigging tonight....I'm not, wish I was. Can't complain though, have a New Years Day gig Who's doing what then?
I have one of these: http://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_i...714bs_lava_red/ and, I'm very impressed! andy
What's the neck profile like on it, I'm hoping the 414, 614 or the 714bs has a chunky-ish feel?
Found the link I was looking for. http://brochures.yokochou.com/index.html#YAMAHA_GTR There is a JB500 in the 1985 catalogue. Maybe worth asking on the Yamaha forum? http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/
Cheers, good links
 17. I really don't think anyone's beliefs should make a difference, it isn't important to me at all. Respect is due to anyone who stands up for what they believe in, whether I agree or not.
 18. Has anyone mentioned Tony Franklin? I'd never seen/heard Hodgkinson....just been watching this Cool as hell!
 19. Back to Bill...........nice little Jam of Bill doing Hey Joe. Without doubt the greatest "real" rock bass player Well, in my head anyway.
 20.
I'm not a fan of relicing. Pretend wear and tear is just silly. You wouldn't pay a lot of money for a wrecked car or a house with the guttering falling off and a few broken windows, so what's going on here? Looks like Fender have discovered that there are players out there who can be cynically exploited and will love them for it!
Bollocks! We all like our own special things with our basses we're all geeks to some degree, that's why we hang around here!.....it's not silly, it's just another finish option. Comparing them to a wrecked car or a house with the guttering falling off is silly.....I suspect the instruments will be in good working order.
 21.
thats exactly what i meant by my last post, but you worded it much better.
Cheers LWTAIT .......Nowt wrong with choosing a "worn" paint job.
 22. What's wrong with a relic? We all like our particular colours, shapes etc, same as LED's.....it's a matter of personal taste. If I had spare cash I'd relic both my basses. It's just like a custom paint job to me.
 23.
Some of you will get into this topic, others of you will hate it. However, we should all agree that for some inexplicable reason there seems to be a huge number of kickass bassists who are British. Who's at the top of your list ? I can easily rattle off 10 ... John Taylor Paul McCartney Steve Harris Mick Karn Sting Nick Beggs Pino Paladino Mark King Tom Jenkinson Lemmy .. and find 10 "also rans" too John Entwistle Tony Franklin Geezer Butler Chris Squire Roger Waters John Paul Jones Jah Wobble John Deacon Neil Murray Jack Bruce
Most of the legends are "also rans" Ed Poole anyone?
