1. I quite like the simplicity of the LH500, no mad Eq sliders, no crazy frequency options, the preamp circuit idea is a plus for me too, I don't really get along with all valve set ups, so I'm thinking about getting hold of one.
2. Bit of Hartke history....thought about it when david_l_perry mentioned the earlier 3500 model, I bet the gig they did with Jaco,Darryl Jones, etc was great!
3. That looks a bit nifty...actually answered a question for my wife too.....she does handmade jewellery and wanted to get into soldering....if I get this.... she can't use it cos it's not hot enough!
4. So is a cheap 5 quid iron ok for pickups etc?
5. I'm glad this thread has popped up, about to change my pickups and normally I just take it to someone who knows wht they're doing....but I'm going to have a crack myself and melt all my pots
6. Perfect for giving it a hiding on the road!
7. Tada! Problem solved. Took the grill off made sure it went back on nice and tight, checked the handle at the back, checked the wheels and side handles all tight. Clean as a whistle..although I do feel a bit thick!

9.
If the tweeter is a compression driver, there must be a crossover. If there is a crossover, there is likely to be a coil and/or a resistor across the positive and negative wires even after you disconnect the tweeter. To prevent these heating up you need to disconnect the HF section of the crossover at the input, i.e. cut the wires in front of the high pass section of the crossover. If the manufacturer has just used a capacitor to protect the HF unit, or if it is a piezo, you'll be OK. Otherwise, you could set your speaker on fire.
Cheers stevie, I'm not going to take it out, I'm pretty certain it's vibration.....from the speaker grill maybe, it's so much like a thin distortion it's quite odd! I'll make sure it's all screwed down again.
10. That's cheap! He's a great player, have you heard him improvise Giant Steps as an off the cuff thing shouted out by an audience member? It's on youtube....bloody great!!!
11.
Sure you can, but why would you want it like that? It seems just...baffling, to have it set up to enforce a different approach to the fretlines depending on where on the neck you're playing.
It's not baffling, the notes are not directly on the line, obviously you can set it to be.... but elsewhere on the neck they would be past or behind slightly.
12.
Huh? Sounds like your fretless isn't set up with proper intonation.
You can set your intonation on a fretless depending how you want to play it in relationship with the lines
13. 6 tubes of Super glue on my fretless, A fine job by Dave Dearnley in Cardiff.
14. All American Alien Boy, Ian Hunter and Jaco.
15. Thanks for the replies lads, I don't think it has a crossover...it's a VX810, unless I'm missing something? I'll double check everything again but I 'm pretty sure there is nothing loose or vibrating, although I had the cab 2nd hand it's in great condition...the speakers still have a new smell about them, no rips, dents or cracks, so after the re-check, think I'll just whip it out! cheers Jase.

17.
Not quite. On a fretted bass you fret the note by placing your finger BETWEEN the frets. On a fretless, you place your finger where the frets would be. There is a marginal difference.
.....and also the further you go up the neck you'll find yourself playing just past the line, the note isn't directly on the line for the full scale of the neck, lined or unlined it is a challenging and at the same time a rewarding instrument to play. You become more aware of what you and others are playing too. Look at the board everyone else does
18.
billy sheehans not a bass player! he's a guitarist with four strings (or might as well be). which brings me to something else to add to my list - the yamaha attitude bass. wyh would you make a bass and need two amps for it? surely then you need two overdive pedals when you want overdrive etc. why not just have one amp and a pickup selector switch or a blend knob or two volumes? or two tone controls? i wouldn't even mind two preamps (one for each pickup) too much, at least then you only need one bass and one amp, and can have lots of tones to choose form for each pickup. it seems silly to me. and add signature strings onto my list. what a stupid idea. you must have found string you like already to know what you like in them (if that makes sense? it sounds right in my head)!!! use the ones you like!!! *edit to make what i said make more sense.
You disgust me too, nowt wrong with Bill Oh, here's one!!! people who slag legends
19.
Billy Sheehan (and his signature Rotosound strings)
How dare you!!!! Strings fair enough....but Bill, shame on you
20. Ello, When it comes to speakers, horns, cones etc, etc......I haven't a clue so If anybody could offer a little advice on the following I'd be more than grateful....ok here's what I'm wondering....can I remove the high frequency driver from my cab without causing any problems? It's possible I've blown it, the speakers all seem fine but there's a slight distortion coming from around the horn area. I've been in touch with Soundtech and just waiting for prices on spares etc but if I can whip it out without any adverse effects I'd rather do that....yes, I'm too tight to pay for a horn
21. Hate and should be destroyed: Any instrument made by Gibson, mainly Gibson basses though!!! Over-rated: ( For me anyway) Valve or Tube Rigs... Valve Preamps are good though! D-Tuners, although I do use one....pain in the arse! Most types of strap locks...always break on me! Fretlines on my Fretless...well over-rated Legendary Roundwound strings don't seem to last more than 1 gig!
22. Fave Pre Amp for screaming feedback distortion: Pearce BC1 (Regret selling) The only Ampeg gear I got on with: SVT . Valve preamp. (Regret selling) Various reliable heads: Marshall 200watt Intergrated System Trace Elliot GP7SM 300 Peavey Centurion Mark 4 (lasted for years and years) Reliable Cabs Marshall 300 4x12 Bass Marshall 300 4x10 Hartke TP 4X10 Homemade 8x10 (Loudest thing in the world ever!) (Regret selling) Current Set Up......and would prefer to gig with! Hartke HA3500 or HA4000 Hartke VX810
23. I'd have to agree with Ped, Hartke do great cabs. I couldn't get along with Ampeg or Ashdown...mind you I was a tad gutted when I realised Ampeg wasn't for me...but that's another story If you get a chance give some a go, they're rather good!
24.
At last .... I discover your favourite humming noise.
Aye, it's a humdinger!
