No problem. Didnt realise you were that far away. Yes, its certainly more substantial than the Geddy. To me thats a plus but i know lots of people like the Geddy.
Yes, I like the Geddy bass too but the profile does tend to fatigue my hands/fingers.

Thanks for the offer dave but I'm in South Wales Just wanted to make sure the necks were more the usual Jazz feel than say the Geddy which as you know is ultra slim.
Hi Guys. I have a HW1 Jazz and its a fantastic feeling/sounding Bass IMO. I also have a HW-One P and that too is great. Im not sure how the HW-One Jazz plays compared to the HW1 jazz (god this is confusing) but sound wise i think they are all pretty close to how they should sound. The finish on my Jazz started to fall off within weeks, the finish on my P is perfect still after 3 months so im not sure about the comments above on the finish. Personally i ilke the black Nitro finish. That was a big selling point for me as i don't really like glossy black finishes. The two necks are different though (other than being a Jazz and P). The Jazz has a very glossy finish on the back and a skunk stripe. The P has a more satin finish and no stripe. for me the Jazz neck looks better. Of course the HW-One has a reinforced neck. The HW-Ones also come with quite a nice padded gig bag, the HW1 came with a very thin one.
Hi dave, what do you reckon on the neck profile, radius etc, how does it feel?
-
Do you reckon that's genuine wear and tear?

The cases seem much better. I saw one on ebay it actually looked quite classic, I was seriously tempted or rather I AM seriously tempted. The link is in the ebay section.
Just look at the case! Puts the cases sold with the old series to shame surely! Seller looks good though.
Yep, about time they sorted the case issue, looks great.
lovin' the red in that burst and the case too.very lush the seller posts on the EBMM forum under the same name. In his listings he says he'll try and source anything you're after and I'll give him his dues..within a couple of days he had found a pearl lavender SR5 that I had been wanting a long time.Unfortunately for me by the time I added import duties and taxes it worked out more than I was prepared to spend but he certainly lived up to his handle. he comes across as a nice guy to deal with in the correspondence I had with him. hope this helps
Thanks dub

Fender American Jazz bass (with S-1 pickups) VS Geddy Jazz bass
Jase replied to Bassmurf's topic in Bass Guitars
Have narrowed down my choice - but can't decide between which of these two to get! The Geddy jazz is about £50 cheaper form what I can find out! Has any one got/used/tried the fenders with the S-1 pickup switching system?
Hi Bassmurf, I've tried the Fender with S1 switching, still got it. Nothing wrong with the bass at all although I'm not a fan of the S1, it was said to give a P bass tone/sound....buy a P bass rather than have a switch that sort of gives you that tone. It's more of a softer, hollow type of tone, not much cop at all. The bass is a good old USA love it and play it loads. Some players like the switch as I'm sure you'll find out. I also owned a Geddy too, another great bass, in build and quality just like a USA in my opinion. One subtle difference is the ULTRA slim neck profile nowhere near a USA profile. My Geddy had a narly, bright, grinding sort of tone. Both great basses. The only reason I sold my Geddy was to fund a CIJ Fretless -
I saw that one too. It certainly looks the biz, but it's the original one. Fender re-did the Highway basses, and the new models have a Badass II bridge, Greasebucket master tone, a graphite re-enforced neck and a 70s-style logo. They look much cooler IMO and considering you can pick them up for about £500 it's pretty good value.
The upgraded models I'd like to know about, I thought the same around 500 quid maybe worth looking at.

It's a little late and I'm up with GAS, Highway One Jazz to be precise. I use USA Jazz but never tried the Highway, so anybody willing to give me the good, the bad and the ugly on these. I saw a Daphne Blue one on ebay looked a good bass...is it? cheers Jase.

Good price on the new Fender I wasn't convinced when I first saw the new Fender basses but not so sure now looks quite classic. Anybody ever dealt with this ebayer?
Interesting, I guess at the end of the day they are only worth what somebody will pay for them Reason for asking is that I've been looking (on and off) for a 1976 bass - but only due to sad fact it would be as old as I am, which I think would be quite cool - that said I'm not prepared to pay over the odds for one...
As much as I love Fender basses it's ridiculous how the prices of early models can be in the thousands, they're just simply not worth that much, there's another link in this section for a 55 Pbass, 20 grand utter nonsense, to me for a bass that old and special I would pay £1000 and I'd complain about that too but each to his own
-
Maple fretless - that makes two of us If you think these are overpriced, how much what would you pay for one? I've recently seen a few mid/late 70's fenders on eBay going for between £700 and £1000... I generally agree that the prices seem a bit to high and I'd find it hard to justify spending £1000 on one
I'd give about 450, 500 at the most, they're late 70's, near vintage but not quite. Only my opinion you understand chaps

Always fancied a maple fretless, well over priced but still nice to look at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-PRECISION-BAS...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-USA-Fretless-...1QQcmdZViewItem
Weather Report were a hybrid of world/jazz/fusion. Their whole catalogue is a panolpy of jazz/jazz funk/jazz rock/fusion/pop - just goes to show how inadequate labels can be. My favourite WR CDs are 'Night Passage', 'Mr Gone', 'Heavy Weather' and 'Procession'. 'Black Market' and 'Domino Theory' have some great tracks (Db waltz is COOKIN') but I prefer the first four I have listed. Oh and that Alphonso Johnson guy is seriously underated!
Agreed, Johnson is hugely underated. Herandnu is amazing.

The Wheatsheaf Caerphilly, Early evening gig 5.30pm. One of the few remaining venues around these parts that actually have punters in because of live music!!!! Great sounding place too and very intimate, people about 4 or 5 feet away from you, which I always find more challenging than a bigger venue. They have Live bands Fri, Sat and Sunday. Great people, great vibe, hot and sweaty!! As a gig should be Plus we had a problem free night....Tidy darts.
Can 'Malcolm' get his hands on anything (Japanese Fender wise) then? If so I may have to drop him a line. Bo!
http://www.guitaremporium.co.uk/ Take a look

Good Version of PoT, Jaco did that on a fretted originally didn't he?

Action you could drive a bus under!

Insane, it's never worth that at all, I'd love to own a vintage Fender but..come on!!!!

I can't make it to the bash but I'm willing to send a DVD Joni Mitchell/Jaco, let me know where it needs to be sent. I'll have a look around see if I got some other stuff
For those of you who missed the thread last time this bass was discussed it's from Mikey Guitar. An interesting idea but I can't help thinking that the fretless conversion works the wrong way round. Instead of lowering the frets it should really raise the fingerboard otherwise the fretless action will be too high.
Good point, I see where you're coming from.
