Don't take this the wrong way, it's not a dig or anything, but there seems to be the idea that the Japanese are great at making guitars, with a lot of people of the opinion that MIJ/CIJ are better than MIA/MIM - why do people want US pickups? Is there the concensus that they sound better? Cheers.
Just speaking for myself....I don't think one is better than the other, I have two US models and one 62 CIJ, the reason I'm drawn to CIJ's is it's another "flavour" I like the idea of having a bass with a vintage radius, vintage style tuners and spiral bridge (can't afford a genuine 62 ) they're great to play and they come in at a good price. I'd use either USA or CIJ they're just as good as each other.
  2.
Hi, got a Boss SYB-5 Synthesizer pedal for sale or trade. It's in excellent condition, hardly been used. Boxed, but i've unfortunately misplaced the instruction manual. It's easy to figure out anyway, plus you can view/download the manual on the Boss website. Will sell for £60 including postage, or will consider a trade for any Fx you don't find yourself using. Cheers.
Where about are you based
  3.
anyone know offhand how much Ishibashi charges for shipping to th UK?
I just had one delivered to the door Wednesday, 82,000 yen. Good people to deal with. Shipping was 14,000 (forgot to mention)

    New Fenders
I adore Fenders but to pay £800 for a US Standard model? That's pushing it a bit.... I still love them though. Always will
Love 'em too, at least the S1 switching has gone, get rid of the string through and Hipshots, we'd be on the way to a decent bass.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10091 Basically he got sold a dog by a new member. I know I would be heartbroken if I had spent that much hard earned on a bass and got ripped off.
Ah right I see, poor guy. No newbies allowed to sell I reckon, unless the mods know them.
  7. What happened?
  8.
I know that starting around 1980 Fender were using CNC location holes and rather bizarre channels on precisions, so this might well be something to watch for on Jazzes from this date. It's likely that Fender have changed their routing over the years since, and at least some basses have the CNC holes hidden under the bridge.
Being a hopeless Fender fan I had to email them about the routing, this is what Peter Mathers replied with: "Well, we have a rough estimate that the routing started after the vintage 1970’s guitars with the American standard range. This would have been around the mid 80’s." Hope this helps Pete Mathers Fender GBI Service Co-Ordinator When GAS gets me again I'll be after late 70's early eighties models then!!! Can't afford a vintage
  9. Cheers Dood.
  10. Just got my JB62-85FL Vintage White this afternoon, more than happy with it. I paid for it 9th Jan, it was shipped 10th and arrived here 16th, can't complain at that!!! Ishibashi were great to deal with, it came with owners manual, proof of purchase, gig bag, pick guard and another type of Fender satchel/shoulder bag. The packaging was very good indeed! Didn't expect this but...it was delivered to my door and not in the usual Parcel Force van, in a car driven by a young lady. I thought I'd have to collect it from the depot as usual, so a nice little bonus there! I paid 68,000 yen for the bass and 14,000 shipping and insurace, a total of 82,000 yen, at the time the exchange was £380. I'll get some pics up if any Fender heads are interested. Cheers Jase.
  11. Just had a look at those mp3 trainers, they sound like a marvellous idea, I have to get one, can't stand using my pc to learn and practice.
  12.
"The Who's Pete Townshend said to be keen to find out more about it." Doncha just love Press Release Speak?
Pete's guitar tech should do that for him on stage, shouldn't he???? pass it over after he's given it a hiding and it's well out of tune Nah! pete don't need one. I wouldn't bother with one m'self.
  13.
Fender Jazz Japan 75 reissue
Gorgeous
  14. CIJ are safe for leaving the scratch plate off, USA new models are not as muppet has already mentioned but my 90's USA has tighter routing for the pups than my 2004 USA. Not sure when Fender started the ridiculous routing under the scratch plate, but what a pain!!!
  15.
Yet to find ''the one'', but hoping it comes in the form of a 75' RI Jazz, with black on maple fingerboard and loads-a-chrome.....
You might enjoy a quick look at this: http://www.fareastguitars.co.uk/usedbasses.htm
  16.
As I understand it, relicing a neck by taking off some or all of the finish can cause problems with intonation and action. When a neck is played for years and the finish is worn as a consequence of this, that finish is effectively replaced by the oils and grease (and dirt) from the hands, and these bestow a degree of protection against the potentially negative effects of changes in humidity and other sources of moisture (e.g., sweat). However, simply removing finish from a neck without refinishing the wood with a moisture-proof agent could leave you with a neck that will require frequent adjustment to maintain correct intonation and action. Just in case you were tempted to get the sandpaper out Chris
Really? You'd think something so minor as removing the finish from the back of a neck wouldn't have any major consequences. You live and learn
  17. I found these ones..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qfgnta7reGQ
  18. Actually, I 've gone off the new USA Jazz, I have one and I prefer my older model, like kevbass says, the USA newer models seem to have huge pickup routing, you also have to leave the pick guard on too....which is annoying, so this little number is looking attractive to me. Pm'd kev.
  19. Shame about those scratches above the neck joint, if it didn't have them be a tidy relic I reckon. Do USA Jazz necks fit a highway neck pocket...hmmmmm I wonder.
  20. Punishing myself with Donna Lee after hearing Mike Flynn's recording the other day......gave up already
  21. Thanks for the vid danny, really enjoyed it!

  23.
That may be, but the Fast Show is rubbish and The Mighty Boosh ROCKS. IMO, of course.
Just my opinion.........but I don't get The Mighty Boosh can you recommend an episode maybe? See if I can get it
  24. That's a great epoxy job by the way.
  25.
Suppose that depends how much he's hoping to make...incuding customs you can get a brand new one cheaper.
Must be worth his while to some degree.
