basses aren't really that fragile though. Maybe if you're in a horrific car crash your bass with be knackered, but, you've just come out of a near death experience, probably not that bothered about your bass. Even if it was in a hard case it might not have been saved. I've never been able to afford a hardcase for my bass, as i've always had more pressing things to buy. I've never had any problems with my basses, they get thrown around quite a bit in my car, get squashed between amps and stuff. I know this is going to sound horrific to some of you, but there's no damage. Don't be so protective or your bass will never have any balls!
Squashed between amps and stuff get thrown around quite a bit I bet your bass has some serious mojo

Nah...you're all barking mad using a soft case for your bass
-
Hmmmm, each to his own The leather used for the overwater bags is a bit special though. bet it smells gorgeous.

Don't mean to be ignorant chaps ...but why don't you use a hard case, any particular reason? Just wondering why you opt for a gig bag rather than the more protective hard case.

The eternal stream of bands going nowhere...

I think ego is good in a band, the more the better I reckon. We all have some sort of ego to get up there playing in front of people in the first place -
Ours got cancelled
So i've been looking for new stuff to play on the bass, and i'd like to get into more stuff like Stu Hamm. However, I don't know of any other artists like him, and while I respect people like Pastorius and Wooten, I find their playing quite dull. Can anyone recommend any artists who play solo bass and don't shred?
Serious? You find Pastorius and Wooten's playing dull? I'm not saying everyone should be into those players but it's far from dull.
There is a US based seller on ebay called reliablefender with a shop called The Stratosphere. It's mainly broken down Strats and Teles but there are often many bass bits and pieces on there. You have to check every few days. I've bought a few bits from him and it's all legit Fender stuff
It's mainly Japanese bass parts at the moment, last year they had more USA parts. They have plenty of satisfied customers.

I just bought a Hartke HA 4000 from Viajero ( Rick ) great amp I must say, so my Trace head has to go in order for me to complete my Hartke set up, I've already got a 4x10 Transporter so I want to raise enough cash to get a 1x15. The amp is in good condition, never let me down when I used it live, it's never been taken to gigs in the back of a van and the chap that had it before me only used it in his house. As I mentioned I only want to get around about enough cash to cover a used Hartke 1x15 cab. So £160 plus delivery, not sure of it's weight as yet so I'll sort it out and post it up Some info and pics: TRACE ELLIOT SM300 BASS AMPLIFIER WITH GP7 PRE AMP 280 watts RMS, and has built in the GP7 pre amp and 7 Band Graphic EQ. Input and Output volume control, Balanced Output D.I., Line Out, Tuner Out and two 8 Ohm Speaker Outs. Cheers Jase.

Well if you feel that you're at a level where you can play pretty much anything, I'd keep hold of it, don't be so hasty. Why not get some ads out? You may not end up with an ideal playing situation but you could get into a regularly working band, just let them know from the start you don't drive. Being a non driver shouldn't get in the way in my opinion, we used to have a drummer who couldn't drive but he was a good player, he was worth picking up and I suspect you too are at a good level, so in theory you'd be worth picking up too Don't sell up!!! get out there, tell them you're good just like you did in your post by saying you can play pretty much anything. Keep it, something will turn up.

Courier points system and courier issues
Then I'd recommend you don't use Parcelforce. If anything goes wrong you'll have no claim. It clearly states on their website that £150 is the maximum insurable value for musical instruments. The Parcelforce web page that says £150 is the maximum you can insure a musical instrument for .. Read the paragraph headed "Prevent movement of items in transit". With so many other options, why take the risk?
It's a good point actually OG, I'd prefer if I was buying a bass to have it insured for the full amont, any recommendations? -
You should be Ok as long as its worth less than £150 and is in a case which itself is then packaged well in a cardboard box full of bubble wrap etc.
Cheers OG, It's in a hard case, I'll get some heavy duty cardboard and bubble wrap. It's worth more than £150 though. -
Intrested in a 1994 MusicMan StingRay fretless? Andy
Thanks for the offer Andy, I have a fretless mate, is the stingray unlined? because I sound bad enough with lines I'd really like to get hold of a fretted Jazz rosewood board. I didn't mention a straight swap because I don't think any one would do a swap with a usa jazz.
I recently sent my Hartke head to Wales with the Post Office / ParcelForce and, I believe, it turned up safe and sound. That was a fairly large, 20¡odd kilo parcel with 150 quid insurace (undervalued slightly to get a cheaper postage rate), and it cost 21.39. Good value, I thought, and it turned up on time, tracked, and seemingly in good condition. Jase can give you the story on how it arrived, I would think, but from my end I have no complaints. One thing worth noting, however, is that the 30kg individual parcel weight limit drops to 15kg if you take it to the Post Office rather than have it collected. +1s all round, I think.
No problems at all, arrived safe and sound, on time 9.30 am I think it was. As Viajero said, Good value! I may be using them shortly to deliver a bass. If the deal comes off I'll post the results. -
I'm possibly thinking about ending my long term relationship with Old Geddy, I fancy a Jazz rosewood. There's nothing wrong with the bass at all, apart from the fact it's well used or "worn in" if you like. It's the typical Geddy sound, bright and snarly. The neck is in good condition even though it's finish is a little worn, I don't think it needs any fret work just yet but I suppose that depends on the player. There are a few nicks and dings on the body and headstock, nothing serious and has not effected playability. I also removed the strap pins and bolted my strap on, the strap is adjustable. There is also a Black pick guard for it I no longer have the original white one. So it'd be interesting to find out what sort of price people would pay. Cheers Jase. It's got to be the most irritating thing to do with a band...choosing a name, nothing sounds good, it's been taken and slowly but surely it all gets quite ridiculous, we do anyway We recently changed our name, took us ages to settle on something and still it sounds stupid, although when we googled it and checked myspace nobody had taken anything along the same lines. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing
