  1. I really do love it Gareth but I’m determined to clear some gear out and thought I’d put a few more desirable things up first 🙈
  2. So this one is going to hurt - my favourite ever gigging combo up for sale! I've moved to modelling amps through stage monitors now so just can't justify something as good as this sitting in my study doing nothing I've tried combos from loads of different manufacturers but always came back to this one as my 'do it all' unit. I can carry it it one hand, it fits in the boot of a, relatively, small car, can be set up to work in all sorts of bands, has a decent DI out and it goes both low and LOUD if required. The two key determining factors for me were that it's a fairly easy lift at only 16Kg and it sounds great in a live band setting without needing to go into the PA (although I always try to DI whenever possible). This simply the only combo that's ever fulfilled everything I wanted. The newer AC combo is excellent but it's simply too heavy for me as a one-handed lift - it adds a useful mid-driver but it's nearly 70% heavier! It also, theoretically, has double the power output, however, that's only the case when you add a 2nd cab - at which point it makes even less sense to me. The original AC Lite puts out the full 500w into the 12", 4ohm, driver whilst the integrated compression driver has a second power amp pushing at 300w. I've never driven mine really, really loud but I was present in our store when a customer wanted to try one at as close to full volume as possible & it was deafening! The single 12" driver goes way lower than it ought to be able to and you can forget any of the mentions of it being a 'jazz' combo in some reviews - this thing rocks out and punches way above its weight. That dedicated high compression driver also means it'll work really well in a funk / soul setting. It's been gigged maybe 20 times from new and in every case has also fed into foh via the integrated DI so it's never been pushed hard. I really take care of all my gear and it's in excellent condition. No bad scuffs or marks anywhere & even still has the sticker on the front. There's a tiny bit of stippling on a small patch on the left hand side where I've used a MarkBass Keeper on velcro. These are great by the way, I used them all the time with any MarkBass gear. Should be able to post in UK, at cost, or can arrange pickup / delivery if anyone lives close enough to me in Henley. Here's what MarkBass say: "Alain Caron is an incredible jazz bassist from Canada that has spent years developing his own feel and sound using extended range basses. After using Markbass amplifiers for years they have finally worked together to build this combo amplifier that has all the tones that Alain needs as a touring jazz musician. The 121 Lite combo is an amplifier than has been designed from the ground up for the touring jazz bass player. Bi-Amp Design While a lot of bass amplifiers use a single amplifier this amplifier uses two separate amps and drivers that deliver 500w of power to the main 12" speaker and 300w to the smaller 1"tweeter that offers up a bright attack along with overtones you may have never heard before. By using two amps instead of one you get the best headroom and dynamics without needing to resort to massive speaker cabinets. Classic MarkBass Tone This little amplifier has been tuned to deliver a sound that suits Alain Caron's needs but it still has the same warm and transparent feel that MarkBass are well known for. All of the innovations and changes made for this amplifier can be adjusted to suit your style. For example you can use the VLE or Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator to give the amp a more vintage tube amp like sound which in turn dials back on the response from the tweeter. Footswitchable Control In recent years more and more bass amps are coming with effects loop bypass and mute switches. These are extremely handy for live use where you may need to mute the amplifier or certain effects for tuning without annoying the rest of the band. Top-level sounding combo designed with bass legend Alain Caron, the COMBO 121 LITE is a powerful bi-amp combo, now updated with a 300W power amp for the new compression driver, and 500W power amp for the 12" speaker with maximum fidelity, headroom and dynamics! Alain Caron is known for his high standards, and the components in this combo were carefully chosen to reach those standards. 3. TRADED Continuing my 'last in first out' policy. . . Another bass I traded for earlier this year. It's a lot of fun to play and looks really cool - I've taken loads of different basses to band rehearsals over the years and my guys are used to me turning up with something different each week. However, it's rare that anything gets more than a cursory glance from the two guitarists. The week I took this one they both came over to have a look and asked for a quick play (with a pick of course, lol). There's just something about the tru oil finish & gorgeous neck that looks a bit special & different to all the high gloss finishes you tend to see. I already have a couple of 'go to' J basses that I'm used to using so hanging on to this one is a luxury I can't afford at the moment. Original description & pics from previous owner: Custom Jazz Bass comprising a Pau Ferro / Ebony (f/board) handmade by Alpher Instruments. This neck was handmade to fit the Warmoth (USA) Alder Jazz bass body This has an added flame maple laminate top and finished in tru oil. "In excellent condition (just a couple of minor marks/dings which may show in photos). Fitted with Fender Custom Shop 60’s Pick ups and brand new John East Deluxe Pre which works both passive and active. The chrome hardware is high-quality Hipshot (USA) plus J. East original knobs (3 std. Plus one stacked). This bass has been totally overhauled and upgraded and is a killer Jazz! Comes in a generic hard case" Happy to ship anywhere in UK or EU at cost. Payment via bank transfer or Paypal friends & family only.
  4. I picked up this lovely Ken Smith, in a recent trade but I'm having a bit of a clear out at the moment and, as this was the latest acquisition, I decided it should be the first to go! It's 2002 Ken Smith BSR 4MW (bolt-on neck) model with, I think, a claro walnut top & rear and that classic, and classy, Smith tone. Nothing else ever sounds quite like a Smith. They are known for a very clear & precise articulate sound with nice lower mids and a sort of bright and open 'ring' to the high end. This doesn't necessarily mean they are overly bright and harsh though. You can get a surprising number of different sounds from the Smith onboard eq. In fact it's hard to get a 'bad' sound from one! I've been playing this at home through my Jule Monique/Demeter rig (also for sale) & it sounds lovely. Hard to explain just what a Smith sounds like but this clip gives you an idea (it's a different model & a 5 string but there is a real uniformity to that famous Smith sound from bass to bass): The necks on Smiths are particularly nice and will take a very, very, low action if required. I can genuinely play things on this bass that I wouldn't attempt on almost all of my others (although I certainly can't play like Peanut Woods, lol). Overall the Smith is in excellent condition. A few small marks on the lower rear but these would probably polish out if required. Front of the bass and fretboard look immaculate. It comes with the original Smith hardcase and, sheepskin padded, leather strap. Happy to ship anywhere in the UK or EU at cost. Payment via bank transfer or PayPal friends & family only. Photos are borrowed from the trade deal but i can take more if required:
  5. I’d loosely allowed for: Monique: £1,200 800D: £500 NOW SOLD Bag: £75
  6. Do bass amps come any better than this? Genuinely never thought I'd sell this but I'm using modelling amps these days and I have a few big bills to pay . . . NOTE THAT THIS WAS PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED WITH A DEMETER POWER AMP BUT THIS HAS NOW BEEN SOLD SEPARATELY. There are pages & pages of personal reviews of Jule Potter's marvellous Monique, both here and over on Talkbass. It's simply one of the best valve/tube pre-amps ever made. Note that this particular one has the pull/push option on both line level and sensitivity. It's a fairly expensive job to work on these over here in the UK so it's much better to have one that already has this functionality. Works equally well on-stage or in a studio environment. I've used this set-up 2-3 times live and twice in a studio for recording. In fact the last time I recorded anything the studio engineer couldn't stop raving about how lovely Monique sounded. Normally he insists on using his own house DI system but was intrigued by Monique and made an exception for me As mentioned above they've only been gigged a few times and in the studio twice. The rest of time it's nestled in the little gig bag or sitting on top of my Bergantino 2x10 for home practice. It's immaculate and everything works without a single scratchy pot. From what i can see Monique is currently priced at over £1,600 and the gig bag adds another £150 making a total new price of £1,750. In all honesty, nothing in the world of bass amplification looks quite as funky as the Monique in Dove Cage format! I am happy to ship to UK or EU at cost provided that payment is made in advance - either by Bank Transfer or PayPal friends & family. First pic below is the actual unit & other pics are stock shots simply because they are better than I can take: Note: Minnie 800D is NOT included in this sale!
  7. But have you got a ‘tribute back’ that can handle the weight 🤔 😂
  8. I do love a Celinder! I generally prefer them with the active pre-amp but, as it happens, I just happen to have one stashed away 😉
  9. My old bass! I think I was the first owner - no idea why I sold it 🤦‍♂️ Lovely thing with a fabulous woody / earthy tone. Records really well.
  10. Does it have the classic 1.75” nut or the more modern 1.625” that Fender often use?
  11. No one does quilt maple quite like Roger - beautiful bass!
  12. The extended B used to be an option on 5 string basses. I think the only model that came with it as standard (and not changeable) was the Lincoln Goines Signature. There's been loads of debate about whether it makes any difference whatsoever. The general view seems to be that it cannot affect either the direct tension or tone of a B string. Extending the string longer, either behind the headstock or through the body, makes no difference to tone (despite all the people who claim they can 'hear' a difference on through-body stringing). However, there is some physics that say the longer the string is, beyond the nut, the more likely it is that you might be able to 'feel' a slight looseness in flexibility of that string. To be honest I think this would only be the case if you were extending by way more than few centimeters on an Extended B bass though! Whenever questioned the guys at Fodera would always say that 'the customer is always right' - if someone requests something & it can be done they will build it for them. They will offer advice if they think something is really silly though. I did once have a conversation with Joey Lauricella and he said that in early days they received some strange requests and Vinny would say, this'll never sound good. They said that they only ever once built something that a customer absolutely insisted on that they knew wouldn't work. Customer refused to change his spec so they built it. As soon as he went to play it he said "this sounds really bad". The Fodera guys shrugged their shoulders and kinda said "we told you this". They then told the guy what needed to be changed and, if I remember correctly, they built him another that actually did sound right
  13. Ah, I knew it had gone to a good home but couldn’t remember which one 🤦‍♂️
  14. Great basses - inspired me to drag mine out of storage. Pretty much the same but bright pink instead of purple!
  15. Link to red is above - this is the white one: https://ritter-instruments.com/instrument.php?id=1187
  16. This one? https://ritter-instruments.com/instrument.php?id=1501
  17. I used to own one almost identical to this but with a conventional 34” scale. Lovely thing it was too! I now have a pair of gloss finish Coras - one white & the other red. This would look great to go with those two but I’d need to sell stuff first
  18. If I thought I could sell something quickly then I’d have this without a second thought. I have a US Lakland J in a, very funky, custom refinish by Martin Sims that is great to play but it’s a shade too heavy for me to gig with. This is a perfect gigging weight I think.
  19. Couldn’t resist - have pre-ordered one from a shop that’s only getting one in stock!
  20. First new Fender in an age that’s got me even remotely excited!
  21. I sold my Fodera Monarch Elite for £12K. That’s the most I’ve ever sold a personal bass for. We did sell a couple of custom build Foderas for around that amount as well.
