My local store has their first stock of these arriving this week They've got the CN 1x12's and 2x12's and HD 1x12's too - plus, with any luck, their new amp and cab demo room will be ready in a week or two as well

The Barts are back in it now and it's so much nicer I have a few super Jazz 4's, Celinder J update and a pair of, very different Alleva Coppolos. All three sound quite distinct so it's difficult to recommend one over another. Depends exactly on what sort of tone you're after. A lot of people tend to define a super-jazz as bright and modern but that's not to everyone's taste

It was the fastest sale of an instrument I've ever I've ever made I do know people that love these though - a real marmite bass if ever there was one.

Excellent gig Amazing audience, virtually all male, all over 40 and all knowing every word to every song No pressure there then for the band to hit every single thing absolutely note perfect! The band were really hot and sounded bang on to me. The only slight issue was that the drums were mixed right down and sounded a bit muffled, on some of the 'newer' numbers where Collins was really going for it on the originals you couldn't really feel the dynamics properly. On the plus side this really allowed the other instruments to shine through the mix. So often these days you find sound men looking for the perfect vocal & drums mix and things like the bass can often get lost. Pomeroy's playing was uniformly excellent and that Shergold double neck (actually it's a custom build by Chris Richards - great article here [url="http://www.3rguitars.co.uk/twin%20neck.htm"]http://www.3rguitars...twin%20neck.htm[/url] ) sounded really nice. Had more depth than the clanky Ricky. All round a really good night!

I really like the Diamond Bass Comp. sounds a bit more 'musical' than some others to me. Phil is out of stock but has more on order. He also has the Aggie TLC and the Compressore so you could demo those three against each other soon

If he wants a Ray tell him to go for a decent used one. Plain black tends to sell for the least amount and they pop up at £600 -£650. Not much over budget and won't lose value

It's inside warranty - ask for a brand new replacement. Any dealer with a shred of decency will swap it straight out, give you a new one and sort the warranty claim with the distributor / manufacturer. This shouldn't be your issue to sort. The person I spoke to last week who had a similar problem with a Shuttle 9.0 did exactly this. The dealer simply got out of the loop in this case and got the distributor to supply a new amp. The same thing happened recently with a bass I saw. Dealer tried to get it fixed and it came back exactly the same. The owner went past the dealer direct to the distributor and they sent him a brand new bass

I've heard lots of stories about GB 900 heads having problems after they've been used for a while. Last one I heard the owner had to have the head replaced three times before he got one that worked OK at gigging volumes

Standard cost from USA is 23%'on value of purchase plus shipping. There's also a handling charge. Safe bet is to allow 25% to cover everything. No duties on any imports from within EU (but be careful about exactly which countries are full EU members). On current Euro exchange rates you may well find a UK dealer will be cheaper than Peoplemlike Thomann and Musik Produktiv. The UK dealer prices may be higher but some will negotiate a little on prices. The last 3-4 thi GS I checked vs Thomann actually showed UK dealers with lower list prices

I've had the misfortune of having to use Ashdown heads a few times. The first time was a gig when all three bands on the bill had to use the house rig. It was an EVO 500 head with a 4x10. The first band finished and the bass man came over and told me he thought the head had blown something and that he couldn't get even a half decent sound from it. I was next one and tried playing with all sorts of eq settings and pretty much the best sound I got was a low rumbling thud. Then the headline band came one and the sound was, amazingly, even worse! I genuinely thought that maybe it was just a duff head or cab but then I tried a rehearsal studio rig that was entirely bereft of any definition and wooly was definitely the best things got. And then recently I was in another rehearsal room with another EVO 500 and 4x10 and it sounded just like the other two. Luckily I had a little Sadowsky pre-amp with me and bypassed the onboard eq. It was definitely better but the cab still sounded like it had a blanket draped over it. My band said it was the worst they'd ever heard a bass sound. Maybe I've just been really unlucky and had nasty house rigs that have been thrashed to within an inch of their lives but it's not a problem I've had with any other brand I'll have to try and find a brand new one to test my theory

Have you tried the Carvin flats? Made by La Bella but cheaper than La Bella branded ones and in very basic packaging. I hear a friendly UK retailer is about to offer a really good discount on them for all Basschatters (PM me for details).

The store I help out at, BassGear, sells Mono cases and both the Vertigo and M80 are excellent. I bought an M80 because I wanted the extra storage for cables, pedals etc. However the Vertigo is a bit slimmer and less bulky, whilst working just as well as a god protective case

The latest CS basses are seriously nice instruments. Definitely a higher grade of fit and finish than regular US made Fenders. However, they are all individual basses so I'd always recommend trying before buying
