1.
And Molan got it from me! Really lovely bass, good luck with the sale... (I'm tempted to have it back!)
Yep - very good heritage for this baby
2. Yay - I sold a Fodera! Fabulous player from Poland, played some jaw dropping stuff & exchanged a lovely older Anthony Jackson Fodera 5 string double cutaway for the 2010 Fodera Emperor 5. So nice just to meet new people with great bass playing skills - a couple of his friends came along as well, a guitarist & a drummer, also both great guys & not bad on bass either! Happy days
3. This was mine for a while - cracking bass. Has a Redeemer circuit fitted (unless it's been recently removed) http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Creation_Audio_Labs_Redeemer.html Adds a good £50 or so to the value & sounds great
4.
Try the lot! You should also do a free give away where I'm the winner. They'd like the initiative you took
I like your style - unfortunately Phil knows where I live & is likely to track me down if I start giving his stock away
5. I've recently converted from Aguilar DB112's to the, much lighter, SL112's. Very few of these around on the used market but I really like their sound and my back just loves the weight saving!
6. Phil from BassGear is over in LA at Winter NAMM and a friend & I are 'minding the store' for him for the week If anyone fancies popping over I should be hear until Thursday between 11:00 & 17:00 As I'm on duty for the next couple of days it means I have an entire showroom full of Fodera, Alleva Coppolo, Ritter, Zon, Boulder Creek, Zoot, Aguilar, Bag End, MarkBass plus a stack of various pre-owned lovelies to play with! There's also some new Aphex Exciter pedals to try out. So far my 'early shift' has consisted of trying a lovely Fodera Emperor 5 through my 'reference' Aguilar TH500 & a pair of SL112's vs a powered Bag End 2x12. Sounds fantastic - especially the B & I'm really no 5 string player these days. Someone's coming over this afternoon to try the Emperor so thought I'd give it whirl just in case it sells later Now, what next to try. . .
7. Is this definitely 1.5" at the nut? Just checking as I know quite a few Monarchs have a 1.625" nut (bang in the middle of a typical J and P width).
8. Wow - look amazing! I might prefer it to be a bit of a darker blue but I'm a sucker for his kind of finish
9.
Even some proper musicians will probably ask why you can't afford a proper instrument like a Squier or a Fender
Exactly this happened to me once - I was playing a posh wedding using my new, and pretty expensive, MTD535. In the interval a bass player in the audience (who'd been watching me intently in the first half) told he'd just bought a new fender USA and that it was great. He then said that if I couldn't afford one that the Mexican or Japanese Fenders were pretty good as well. I sai thanks for his advice and said he should try an MTD some day but they were sometimes quite expensive. I pointed out that a new one was probably £3K but if he kept his eyes open he might find a used one for around the £2K mark. His jaw promptly hit the floor and he wandered off - I didn't see him again for the rest of the gig
10.
Works of art, but nothing I'd want to own or play.
I thought that until I played one - I am now several thousand pounds poorer, but a much happier bassist
11. aah my baby - possibly my favourite ever 5 string
12. Bugger me - he's sold three of the four in a day! These were only posted up yesterday and all four were for sale then. My favourite is still up for grabs though
13.
sparkly finish of the last one is gorgeous!
That's my favourite - would love to see this one in the flesh
14. I posted some pics of the new single cuts earlier if anyone wants a quick link to them http://basschat.co.u...00#entry1496200 Three of the four sold in a single day!
15. I have a pair of SL112's with my TH500 an I think they match really well. I know BassGear in Tywford has some in stock as I saw them there on Tuesday of this week but probably too expensive to ship to Portugal
16. Get down to BassGear in Twyford - an awesome range of basses an amps in stock and they're always happy to matter about all things bass
17. Thanks Mark, I think the singer friend of mine found someone (referred through BC) - in fact you've inspired me to chase her, not literally, right now
18. So the, rather wonderful, Jens Ritter has released early pictures of his new singlecut, the R8, that he's going to be showing at NAMM next week. Looks pretty cool to me: I hear Jens is coming over for the London Bass Show and will be on the Bassgear stand at some point - maybe he'll bring one of these along I'm absolutely loving my new Ritter Cora and the R8 has the same, slightly shorter, scale length in a 4 string of 33.3"
19. Still love this bass - would cost maybe £3K to have one custom built now
20.
Ah, the JAN II strikes again. Yes, the nut will stay on with just the force of the strings. Prepare to buy a JAN III though. It's easy enough to fit and a vastly superior design.
I know someone who's just done precisely this. Order the III from Warwick and paid a decent luthier £30 to fit it along with a complete set up. Not a tricky job :£
21. Umm, tempted as a back up head. Where in Thames Valley are you?
22. Damn but it's tempting to go for an original pickguard for either my '63 or '64 - both are wearing early '70's repros at the moment.
23. I always think of the Ric as being a 'pick' bass. I know lots of people play them with fingers but when I owned one it just felt 'wrong' to me, and quite uncomfortable. If you're a fingerstyle player then you definitely need to try a Ricky first. Also, on the money front, pre-owned Rics are generally a fair bit more expensive than a Fender J. Obviously there a re lots of different models but a fairly stock used Ric is going to be £1,000 - £1,200 whilst a stock USA Jazz is more like £650 - £850.
