1. So this has been a really big decision for me as I just love this head. I've not had anything quite like it before & it just sounds amazing (to my ears) in a live band mix. There are people out there who say the DB750 only has one sound but, that the sound it has is to die for - personally I'd agree I actually think it has a bit more variation than that but there is very much a core DB750 sound which is a real classic. There's quite a few reviews kicking around that suggest the DB750 could be the last of the really great Aguilar heads as they they have now done away with the point to point wiring etc on the newer 751. This particular one is absolutely immaculate as far as I can see. It came to me in a very solid, also superb condition, Warwick 4U rack-case & I've never taken it out so I guess there's a possibility it may have the odd bit of 'rack-rash'. I've finally decided to sell it as it's just more than I really need & it seems such a waste to be just sitting there in my music room unused for most of its life. I don't gig regularly enough in large venues to warrant a 750W head like this & it's a bit too heavy to lump to rehearsals (although every time I do my sound man tells me how great it sounds!). This is about the best pic I have: Hopefully this shows just what great condition it's in I can arrange shipping but collection or meeting up somewhere might be easier as I think shipping could be expensive. Not particularly looking for trades (unless someone has a Thunderfunk) but always open to think about options if it helps move the sale along
2.
We're also giving free sets of guitar strings to anyone who comes through the door.
I'm guessing these are of the thin & slinky 6 string variety & not the chunky old cables us bass players use?
3. Don't suppose anyone can identify the strings on these for me? Both are flats but they sound & feel quite different. The '72 has some very smooth brighter sounding ones with silver/grey bindings and the '63 has 'stickier' and duller sounding ones with red binding (maybe Rotosound - aren't they usually red?). Pretty sure the silver/grey ones are quite new but the red ones could just be an old set of strings and are sounding/feeling a bit dull - I've really never had a bass with flats so it's a whole new world to me & I'm struggling to tell what an old set would sound like, lol.
4.
you are "the ultimate gear slut"!!!! cant keep track of your purchases man regards Mark
Neither can I - tried to count up my basses earlier today & totally forgot about one of them, lol.
5.
Picking it up tomorrow.
Remember to take a trolley These really are great amps - totally deserve their 'industry standard' status over in the USA!
6. I love a drop of metal flake on a bass. I've been lusting after this Alleva Coppolo P at BassGear - the flake isn't huge but the colour looks much funkier in real life than it does in these pics:
7. Ziggy & I traded basses a few months back - transaction couldn't have been smoother and we had a really good natter at the same time too
8. I had this exact same rig for a while - kicks some serious ass I paired the 2x12 with an additional 2x10 but that was almost too much for me!
9. What a shame - I've seen similar stuff before but usually other parts of the bass are showing wear as well though
10.
Very nice indeed..is it a refinish? Si
Yep - refin body & replacement guard & pots / knobs. Everything else original as far as I know. The refin is believed to be about 20 years old so it's also beginning to show some age & wear now.
11.
That Bag End 12" is just tooo tempting...and I've got car tax this month....and my well paid weekend is looking wet and windy....its not good.
That oiled birch 15" is a pretty funky standalone cab at £450. Looks much nicer in the flesh than it does in the pics
12.
We're gonna have to see some photos of that one
Hera ya go - Obligatory 'quick snap on the sofa' moment. . .
13. Gone even more vintage now. . . '63 Sunburst P with rosewood board in the house Sits rather nicely with the '72 & maple board
14. I had a great SVTII (non-pro) for a while. Absolutely loved it but couldn't lift the bloody thing, lol. It came in at 125lbs in the Mesa Boogie shock rack it came with!
15.
Curiosity has had the better of me. Where is the shop going to be? I couldn't see on the website (which is full of nice toys).
I don't think it's confirmed yet - I think I saw a message on their FaceBook profile somewhere http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001212515302 that it would be about 30-40 minutes west of London
16.
Someone really needs to snap up the BagEnd 12" at £350, that's a steal.
Totally agree - I've gigged with just my 10" at pub rock volumes so I reckon the 12" would be a great little standalone cab. Maybe I could go for one and stack it between my 15" & 10" and start building a Bag End pyramid
17. This is dangerous for me on soooo many fronts! Moving anywhere closer to me is obviously the long term danger but the sale prices on some of the stuff Phil has up for sale are horribly tempting too I've had my eyes on one or other of those Alleva Coppolo KPB4's for a while. The Chuck R one is nice but the crazy metallic cherry burst is my favourite, looks like fun 'stage' bass to play under bright lights, lol. I really like the Fodera NYC's as well - I 'borrowed' this red flamed maple baby for a while & loved it The real 'bargains' are those Zon Standards at under £1,000 though. I was at the Yorkshire bas bash and right towards the end of the day someone plugged this one into a little MarKbass combo & it sounded great - everyone left in the place turned slowly round to see who/what was being played & a couple of others tried it & said how nice the Zon / MarkBass pairing sounded: The other thing I'm seriously tempted by is the Bag End powered cabs. I've got a BE 15" & a 10" and I really like them. The idea of one of these with a tiny little 1000w power amp in them sounds great. I think you can plug an active bass straight into one & you're away. Even cooler would be to use something like a Sansamp 3 channel pedal (which I just happen to have sitting right next to me now!) and use that as the pre-amp straight into the cab. I've been looking at the Berg & Bag End powered cabs for a while but they've always been up around the £1,300+ mark. Phil seems to have a few different speaker configs all reduced to £999. Right - where's this month's bank statement. . .
18. These do look interesting - looking forward to seeing how much they are going to cost
19.
Some Heavy Blues, we just finished our CD http://www.reverbnation.com/throwdown
I got a half empty glass and a full throated bottle of the blues
20. 100 Club is surprisingly cheap - loads of good old school vibe about the place too
21. Looks great - close to a combination of basses from my 2 favourite builders as well. And I'm a big PJ fan at the moment!
22. This little baby is about to head off to Australia
23.
I'm selling a '55 at the mo, not a gold guard yet though.
Slightly too old for me, very, very nice though
