1. USA J Standard prices are all over the show & I think there's a fair amount of 'luck' involved in terms of timing. If you stick one up for sale and someone is particularly after that colour then it'll sell quickly. At other times a near identical bass can sit for ages because people just assume another one will come along soon I reckon somewhere around the £600 mark would be a decent estimate for a US J in good nick with a bit of movement upwards because LPB & rosewood board is a cool colour combo. The last few USA J's to sell on the Bay went for : £650, £625, £572, £557, £460 - the last of these was, IMHO down to the fact it had crappy pics, a refusal to ship and not brilliant copy! Personally the Ultra J's would add to desirability for me but you may not get their full worth if you sell them with the bass. They ought to help it move quicker though
 2.
She's not alone.... Gold guards are sooo hard to photograph, they never look right??
Looks like you have too many there Rick, might as well have a bit of a clear out & sell a few off cheap
 3.
Here's my '59, it also has all the original case candy, tweed case, original strap, original cable, '58-'59 catalog, and the original 1958 fender bass manuals (Vol1 & 2). The blondes are rarer though, the rosewood neck version even more so, although the maple ones are nicer IMHO. Click to enlarge...
That's another beauty Rick!
 4.
I wasn't too far off then...just the wrong way round lol. Would have thought the matching headstock would commanded more bunce Si
I think the other one is virtually 'as new' and even has all the original case candy!
 5. Interestingly the hang tag bass was described as "Norm's personal favorite" It therefore carries a $40K price tag (£25K). The matching headstock model is $25K (£16K).
 6. Such a great player AJ. I saw Fodera had an Anthony Jackson Presentation bass available this week as a customer had a medical problem that meant he couldn't play it. It was a 'fully loaded' version with titanium bridge and truss rod - these babies sell at $24,000 new and I'm sure this one would have been pretty close to that price. . . . . .It sold in under 30 minutes from when it was first listed as being available.
 7.
This bass is completely awesome. It's naturally quite aggressive, but rolling the tone back makes it go all mellow and round. It'll be back in my mitts one day.
I'm loving that 'tone rolled back' sound at the moment
 8.
Damn, the place with the '59 only has 2 of the buggers! One of them has the matching headstock too. This is the other one: Anyone want to guess a price?
Come on then people - I now have a price quote on the baby with the hang tags, anyone want to take a punt? I'll give you a starter & say it's more than $20K (that's about £12,500). . . I've also asked for a price on the matching headstock model (my personal fave) so let's take some estimates on that one too
 9.
Is Bass Gear moving to London? Im sure I read that in the email?!
I think it's within easy striking distance of London, circa 30 mins I think
 10.
I've been kindly messaged a link to some pro pictures of it from a fellow bass chatter Its the one on the left under singlecut. Singlecut Enjoy
this one ?
 11.
where you from ?
Murcia, España: "a city in south-eastern Spain, the capital and most populous city of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, and the seventh largest city in the country, with a population of 436,870 inhabitants in 2009 (about one third of the total population of the Region). The population of the metropolitan area was 638,217 in 2008. It is located on the Segura River, in the Southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, noted by a mild climate with hot summers, tepid winters and scarce precipitation and some very, very nice Fender Victor Bailey Signature Fretless basses with gold hardware"
 12.
C = 1.75 width at the nut B = 1.625 A = Jazz width (whatever that is...its late lol). Your '78 J will have an A neck But as mentioned earlier, those C necks tended to be have a more shallow depth than the B necks Si
Thanks Si - I knew you'd have the answer
 13. Is there a nice, simple guide to Fender neck widths? I've seen a '63 with a C stamp on the neck but it means nothing to me
 14.
Actually....now you mention it, a powered Bag End 15" in the naked wood finish and an Alembic preamp. Sod the weight - that would be just about perfect.
Love it - what a great little combo that would be!
 15. I always thought Dare was real innovation in terms of classy synth pop - so much so that I even sold my first bass, a lovely little white Fender Musicmaster & traded it for a Sequential Circuits Pro-One
 16. The simplicity of the Streamliner really appeals to me but I'd like the option to have 2-3 instant channel switch options via a footswitch. I've almost always played in covers bands so having the potential to swap from disco to soul to rock with a simple footswitch really appeals to me without having to think too much, lol Interestingly the idea of a SansAmp Bass Driver pedal straight into a powered cab would pretty much do this. Not there's a thought. . . I always really liked the onboard tuner & compressor on the TV heads. I realise you can get this via footpedals but when I'm at home it's really handy not having to get all the pedals out!
 17.
No Oh, okay. I'd guess somewhere just south of $20K... Dreamboat stuff.
I would have agreed but the site does have a couple of J basses listed in early $20K's and these two are price on application only!
 18.
My real concern is that I now know it IS possible to get a YOB J bass - unfortunately I only know of one ever being made so that's going to be a bit tough to get hold of, lol. Mind you, I've seen a '59 P in see through blonde and an anodised guard that still has its original hang tags. wonder how much that is valued at. . .
Damn, the place with the '59 only has 2 of the buggers! 19.
Welcome to the dark side - you'll be after a YOB P-bass next
My real concern is that I now know it IS possible to get a YOB J bass - unfortunately I only know of one ever being made so that's going to be a bit tough to get hold of, lol. 20. So I've just bought back a '72 P bass (previously owned by three different people here including Wateroftyne who knows his old Fenders!). As some of you may have noticed I slashed the index finger of my left hand a couple of weeks ago and can't play with it at all. A couple of people suggested heavy padding and or gloves etc. to get me playing a bit earlier. I thought some flats might also help as I'd be able to slide around easier without catching the bandage. I remembered I had a set buried away that came with an Alleva Coppolo I bought last year. So, out they came, heavy gauge bastards they are as well - maybe 50-110's and I usually play something like 40-95's. Got it all strung up (you don't realise how much you use you bloody index finger until it's not available to you!) and then plugged it through a SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe as loaned to me by the wonderful Phil at BassGear, into a power-amp & then straight to a single Bag End 15". Sounds great!! Instant old school rocky growl, I was off playing Thin Lizzy riffs (with 3 fingers, lol) within a few seconds. Fiddled a little with the tone settings but, with some volume, the P sounds great with the tone rolled about half way off and just straight into the power-amp. No idea what this means for all those expensive 'hi-fi- basses sitting next to it on the rack. . . Here's a little pic of the beast in question:
 21.
Guitar Guitar has them in stock but I am waiting for Phil at BassGear to get them in (I guess around the end of this month as they are making them for him this week)
Cool - I've been a bit wary of them in the past as I bought something that was listed as being 'in stock' but it turned out that not only did they not have what I wanted it was actually not going to be available at all Could just have been a bit of a 'one-off' bad experience though!
 22. Who has them in stock? I tried a couple of people not that long ago and, although they were taking money through online sales, they didn't actually have any yet
 23. I saw a very similar AC LM (but a 5 not a 4) yesterday that was priced up at £3,550 - makes this one look like a great price. Shame the prices / basses weren't the other way round as I'm strictly a 4 string guy these days
 24. I can testify to the fact that the NS5XL I question is gorgeous - worth a trip to Sammy's just to try it out
 25. For those of you that thought the Adam Clayton bass was a bit 'over the top'. . .
