Wow - I don't even remember posting this, must have been through a cocktail induced haze I still love the look and sound of a Rick though. I owned a late, post checkerboard, '73 for a while but never really got on with it. Still fancy having another go at one though at some point
March '87 which is close enough for me. If i get some good news in the next few days about when i start my new job and this is still around i will be in contact.
Cool - that really is pretty close. As it's a 'birthday' deal I'll chuck in shipping to the UK at this price as well
warwick serial numbers: the serial number will be on the tip of the headstock. the last two numbers give you the year, the letter at the start, the month (A = Jan B = Feb etc don't include I) the numbers inbetween are the issue number for that number bass of that year. amazing basses - I have 1990 and 1988 thumbs.
Great thanks for that - I can therefore confirm it's a February '87 Big question now is whether that's when dwh was born, lol

Just spotted this that had been up for sale on US EBay recently: It was listed as an original 1964 Gold Sparkle Fender Jazz and there was some copy about AC having one very similar. Maybe he's asked them to make a P bass to match the J he already has? Personally I like it - but then I am the ex owner of a Bootsy Collins pearl sparkle star bass so what does that say about my taste in basses eh?
For some reason when I clicked on the first attachment I got a warning telling me that it's a "Known Malicious Website".
Worked Ok for me on a Mac See if this looks OK: But definitely something odd as I'm only seeing images some of the time when I look at this thread - other times I'm getting just a list of URL's +1 to the stipulation of a price though -

Having owned both 2x12's & 1x12's, I've definitely decided I wouldn't go back to a 2x12 unless I had a larger vehicle and/or a roadie, lol. The 2x12 is about 70lbs and that's just too much for me to want to lug in and out of the car on any sort of regular basis. The DB is also a relatively deep cab if I remember rightly at about 18" and I found that a bit 'clumsy' to carry - you have to remember that I'm an old git of course I've found having a single 12 is great for rehearsals and smaller gigs. In fact the last gig I played at I used my second cab purely as a 'stand' for the first. Having both cabs on was just too boomy in the venue we were playing and a single cab worked just fine. So - summary from me is that the flexibility of two cabs always seems to work better for my use
Would it be possible for you to tell me which month in 1987 this was made in? I am trying to find a nice bass that is nearly the same age as i am. I am guessing the serial numbers worked in the same way back then as they do now.
I have to own up that I don't know how Warwick serial number dating works I'm also not entirely sure where the serial number is, lol. I have a vague recollection it might be engraved into the very tip of the headstock? The bass isn't with me at the moment as it's up on a commission sale with Phil at BassGear.

Picked this up in a trade deal recently but I really have too many basses so have decided not to hang on to it. The best thing about this is that it has that 'classic' Warwick 'growl'. Nothing else quite delivers this sound and, in my opinion, the older Warwicks have it in abundance & sound much nicer than most newer ones. It's been properly cleaned and polished with Warwick wax and looks just lovely now. It has one of those nice thin '80's Warwick necks with a really low and easy to play action. Frets are in very good shape. Body wood is bubinga, neck is 7-ply bubinga & wenge and the fingerboard is wenge. The finish is a natural oil/wax. Nut is a brass ‘just a nut’. Bridge is a 3D4 Schaller, tuners are Schaller too. Pickups are 2 x jazz-type EMGs. Preamp is a 2 band EMG. It really is in great condition for a 24 year old bass. Feels nicely ‘played in’ but without any really heavy wear marks anywhere. A delightful, fast playing, Thumb that’s coming up for its quarter century birthday. Priced at £1,050 plus shipping. Happy to ship anywhere in the world so long as the major shippers (UPS / Fedex etc) have a service
At £2.5k for an ex demo I should hope it would be very nice indeed. If I had that kind of cash for a Precision I would buy me 3 American Standards and use the change for the variety of strings. That way I would have 3 distinct Precision sounds, the nice US neck and as a bonus I wouldn't have to look at that hideous, clubby Alleva headstock
The only person who's really demo'd this for more than a few minutes is Chuck Rainey I think It has a very expensive fingerboard upgrade, I think maybe $500 - $800+. It was genuinely priced at £3,500 so the £2,500 is the discounted price for an ex demo. Lotta cash but Jimmy's basses are seriously nice. I've thought long & hard about about buying this very one a few times but I really prefer a narrower neck profile (the '72 I have coming is more like a J bass width). Last time I was up at BG I tried this baby out http://www.bassgear.co.uk/products-page/al...metallic-burst/ Just loved it - looks really cool in the flesh and has another great fingerboard

Sorry but I'm a bit confused on the specs of this & I'm really no Thunderfunk expert It's not a 750 as it doesn't have some of the feature set & it doesn't generate 750w at 4ohms (or 900 at 2ohms!). So that means it's a new 550 (which Dave doesn't usually make any more as he concentrates on the 750)? Also - does it have the famous TF 'switch' ?
Just about to head back to P bass ownership myself
Forgot to mention that I've got a '72P coming in at the weekend too

The big money alternatives are Alleva Coppolo & Celinder - both make cracking P basses
Difficult..as there appears not to be an actual confirmed date at the end of this. A friend of mine was asked to dep a date..possibly..and was given a list of 44 numbers in the set..!!!!!! He is not used to depping, tho... He asked what to do..I said get a definitive set ( down to 22 ) and a confirmed date and then decide if the work is worth it. If I was Barrie..and I am sure he has thought of this.. he will need to decide whether he needs to put someone through this as soon as he can. I hope the finger is looking better..must be a bad accident if it is looking dodgy healing on time Hope all is well.
Sorry - date for the gig was in the title but possible rehearsals weren't because there's a degree of flexibility I did have one possible taker but he's had to pull out now Rehearsal is currently planned for June 14th with the gig on June 25th. Both near Fleet in Hampshire. Set list is circa 30 songs - almost all are classic soul / disco standards with a couple of rock 'n' roll 12 bars thrown in for good measure. Everything is easy to play - must be because I can sail through them all, lol. The band is pretty well organised with all songs uploaded to a central online storage facility (in the correct keys) plus arrangements for almost everything as well. -
I feel sorry for those that have a 450 and are now looking to sell to upgrade. They will be lucky to get £400 for them. But then again the used Market will place it's own price on one used.
I guess this sort of stuff happens all the time as models get upgraded or taken out of production but I have to admit that this particular example really is a huge price reduction. Of course these big US discounts don't always help us much over here but the TC heads are power switching so they work just fine in the UK
-
Two quick points from me: I've used a TC RH head purchased in the US and it was absolutely fine over here, no problems with power whatsoever. Prices on RH450's are way down in the States now - you can pick up a new one for $569 if you shop around. The heavy discounters don't have the RH750 yet but I'd guess they will come in closer to $800 than $1,000.
-
Looks like the imminent arrival of the RH750 is pushing new prices on the RH450 right down. US dealers now selling these for just $569. That's about £360 plus shipping at maybe £35-£40 and even with full import duties you're only looking at around the £475 mark! Seems like a great time to buy one of these
Tell us more please.
Yeah, why mixed? I've tried one of these and loved it. Found it a bit tough on my right hand technique as I've not played an upright before. Sounded great through a nice amp set up
