2.
As as new convert to all things spector, i have to say that is stunning and the abalone inlays def look very classy, i believe the USA,S have a pau ferro board while the euros have rosewood, which will only highlight those inlays, im currently gassing for a spector 4, a beautiful bass being sold by an asolute gent- bump
Thanks Lee I love Spectors, were it not for my Fodera fetish this would be my main gigging bass, just so 'playable' I think. . .
3. Does it have a £2.5k discount as a quarter of the strings are missing Just kidding, looks like a really interesting bass. CT's are a bit 'marmite' to some people, and the time delays on orders are legendary, but I've always thought they looked like fun and supposed to be great to play!
4. Having a bit of blast at listing a few basses this week The latest is a very deep & rich Dakota red custom P with matching headstock. This came all the way from Australia in record time & without a single mark on the box - the delivery man didn't believe it had come that far in such perfect condition. I was ordered as a custom build with a 'mid' sized nut width of 1.625" which is bang in the middle of a regular Sadowsky J & P. I struggle a bit with 1.75" nut widths and, although it doesn't sound like a huge amount, that slight reduction works much better for me. The neck profile is really nice, maybe a bit chunkier than a regular Sadowsky J neck - not sure if Sadowsky P's have this profile as standard as this is the only one I've ever played! It also has a plain fretboard with no markers - this looks much nicer in the flesh than in my photos. This was one of the key custom parts of the original order and not something Roger S normally commits to. Personally I think the plain fingerboard looks great with the matching headstock Body is lightweight swamp ash and neck is all maple. Pickguard is parchment white, not as bright white as the flash in my photos is making it appear. It has those clever Dunlop straplocks that work fine with a regular strap or can be locked in place for extra security. It also has a, rock solid, original Sadowsky branded D-Tuner and full Sadowsky active circuit with passive option and VTC. This really gives it a surprising amount of tonal flexibility for a single pickup bass. In passive mode it has a nice classic P bass sound, flick to active and there's a volume boost plus a more modern tone & then there's the additional options to boost either treble or bass via the onboard pre and/or roll treble off with the VTC. Sounds huge with some bass boost & a little treble snap through my Aguilar rig Unfortunately despite the fact that I really love the look, feel & sound of this bass I simply don't get on with P bass body shapes I've been playing my basses higher and higher over the past few years and this just doesn't seem to 'gel' for me with a P & I find my wrist aches after a while - note to self, stop buying P basses just because you like the way they look! It's in great condition with just the tiniest of marks on the tip of the headstock (too small to photograph) and some string marking on the pickup. There's a few tiny swirls on the scratchplate from general player wear but it really does look like a very new bass (it's about 2.5 years old I think). There are some markings on the bass, the biggest of which would be on the pickups. There is also a very small ding on the rear side of the neck behind the 6th Fret and one on the tip of the headstock (you can thank my guitarist for that one) It comes with a Sadowsky hard/soft case, all the case candy (polish cloths, polish, tools etc) as well as the original paperwork from Sadowsky. This cost US$3,925 when originally ordered so I'm guessing it would be easily over $4,000 (and a 9 month wait) to get one now. With shipping and duties I wouldn't be surprised to see that working out at close to £3,500 in the UK. Happy to ship anywhere so long as payment for the bass and shipping is made in advance. Also happy to consider trades for something that might be easy to sell like US Fenders, Lakland Skyline, Stingrays or maybe even a Metro Sadowsky if someone is looking to trade up to an NYC There's a batch of pics taken with a bright flash below - some of these don't really do the lustrous red finish justice and make it look a little lighter than it is in real life. I may have some other pics kicking around that show the colour better so I'll have a hunt and see if I can dig them out
5. PM's replied to and some possible offers kicking around Had some requests to see the pickup cover attached so I've added some more pics as well. These were taken with flash so they're showing it a bit 'whiter' than the natural colour.
6. NOW SOLD AND HEADING FOR FRANCE I bought this a while ago here on BC but it's not getting played enough so I thought I'd see if anyone might be interested in this really nice Spector NS4. I got it at a good price for a US neck through bass so thought I'd put it up for the same amount as previously advertised: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=spector I originally bought it with the plan of getting the rash on the rear re-finished but simply never got round to doing it - decided to just play it more, lol. However I can arrange to have the work done for an additional £150 which would take it up to a little less than I think it's worth in perfect condition (I'd estimate circa £1,600 for something with this beautiful top). It is actually sitting at the Gallery in Camden right now if anyone wanted to check it out there. I've copied one image here but there are more in the original post as per the link above. The top and inlays really are beautiful in the flesh (the inlays are one area where the US basses often really stand out from the Euro models). As usual I'm happy to ship anywhere in the world so long as payment is received for the bass & shipping in advance. Would also consider trades for anything that might be easy to sell such as US Fenders, Lakland Skylines or US Musicman basses Comes with genuine Spector hard case.
7. That is an amazing price on a US Spector - I've seen people list Euros for this sort of starting price!
8.
Wow.. I never thought I'd see one of these pass through Basschat. Beautiful looking things!
I know what you mean - I've been vaguely looking out for one but not seen one in the UK for ages and then suddenly this is the 2nd I've seen for sale in a week (although the other was a 5'er so no use to me!).
9.
that is a super nice bass...
So nice they named it twice
10. Why is it that you always seem to have the most interesting basses Javier? I saw Reggie in LA last year & then spotted one of these in Guitar Center but already had basses coming home with me so didn't even try it out Supposed to have quite a chunky 'U' shaped neck for a J bass?
11.
Hi, yes i bought the bass here: http://www.quartodesom.com/?ctipo=41&elprod=17
Wow, that shop has some really nice basses in stock!
12. Nice looking bass Steve, I've never played a US Lakland but have heard nothing but good about them Is it Sherwood green or lighter - always difficult to tell with lots of green and blue colour variations?
13. By a somewhat circuitous route this little beauty has ended up back in my hands but I have my eyes on alternative 'super' J so thought I'd stick it back up for sale to see if anyone might be interested Since it came back it's been in to the wonderful Jon Shuker to have the neck lacquer completely refinished (which also required a refret) and has been nicely set up at the same time. Now priced at £1,850 plus shipping Great example of a Sadowsky custom build NYC J bass made in the early/mid '90's. I simply have too many active J basses and it's not getting played enough so thought I'd see if anyone out there is inteested. Basses from this era were made with the highest quality lightweight woods that Roger Sadowsky could source so he didn't have to resort to chambering bodies to reduce weight as he now does with so any of the new builds. Consequently it's a lovely light weight and really well balanced. My bathroom scales are showing it at about 8lbs with the centre pickup cover on (not shown in the pictures below). It has all original fittings, apart from a new set of Sadowsky strings, and everything is completely glitch free with no scratchy pots Given the age; it's prior to the VTC tone option (although I think this is fairly easy to retro-fit) but it does have active/passive switching. The body is in absolutely immaculate condition and I can't see a mark on it anywhere. The 'trans' white finish allows the natural woods to show through underneath and the clear plastic pick-guard means it doesn't have any slap/pop marks on the body. It looks quite cool to me with the guard on but obviously this could be removed if anyone wanted a totally clean body look. The maple neck is a joy to play, nicely worn in to a smooth semi-matt finish but without any wear marks that I can find. Some nice markings in the wood and on both front and back of headstock. Comes with its original Sadowsky hard/soft case. If you haven't used one of these then they are definitely worth looking out for, my favourite type of case - tough enough to offer really good protection but light enough to lug around for everyday gigging. Overall a really nice classy, but giggable, Sadowsky in a very nice wood/colour combination. Happy to ship anywhere at buyer's cost so long as funds are cleared in advance.
14.
Jamiroquai - live with Nick Fyffe - nuff said http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzIxyKSzdP0
How does he keep that bass line sounding so good for over 10 minutes - my fingers would have fallen off in half that time! OK - so I wrote this whilst still listening to it - he gets a bit of a break after about 7 minutes worth of funkin', lol
15.
In terms of pure groovines, the mighty Bernard Edwards is hard to beat - this modern remix does him justice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkClQxmMpjY
I've got a couple of the Dimitri from Paris remix albums, the "Get Down with the Philly Sound" is really good This is a bit of a fave: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EraHuLphUmA Takes a while to get going but it always puts a smile on my face
16.
Proper music! I assume you have Mr Friedlands excellent book on some of the players: R&B Bass Masters: The Way They Play by Ed Friedland
Good book - haven't looked at it for ages, must dig it out again
17. Anyone spotted the Source filter for sale anywhere yet?
18. You can have mine Rich It's one of the more expensive ones, not the Rockbass. It's sitting at Phil's in Harrogate if you want to give it a try
19. Nice - I've seen Brubakers pop up for sale on TalkBass now and then but never actually seen one in the flesh
20.
well, i think you managed to scare him off.... how long did that take? a day or so? I remember a similar "welcome" when i joined.
Not trying to be 'difficult' or anything but I'm betting that you didn't say you had a bass worth anything between 5,000 & 20,000 (currency not specified), then say you'd offer a reasonable price, decide that price was £10,000 and then not post any pictures when people asked for them? I can't imagine anyone would think they could sell a bass for £10K without a lot of detail and high quality pictures etc.? This would seem especially relevant when there's a pair of Carl Thompson basses up for sale on TalkBass at the moment for £3,000 - £3,500. In order to be worth three times this amount it's got to be a very special CT indeed (and I'm not saying that it isn't - it's just tough to tell from the details given so far). Seems very reasonable to ask for this sort of information to me.
21. A few people from here went last year and said it was a really good gig Tickets are only £12 each which seems a bargain as well (does this actually make my daughter a cheapskate, lol?). I think it was sold out last time they played.
22. If it's a genuine custom shop bass wouldn't it have the Custom Shop logo on the back of the headstock? I'm no Fender expert I'm afraid so not sure when they first started putting the logos on headstocks
23. My lovely thoughtful daughter bought me two tickets to see the wonderful DotFunk on Sat 15th Jan featuring Paul Turner on bass Unfortunately she didn't check my diary and I have a gig that night If anyone is thinking of going then let me know & maybe we can arrange something Here's this year's Jazz Cafe listing: Fresh from their busy schedules with Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies and Incognito, this line up is ready to yet again bounce the house to its foundation. If you missed previous sell out shows then don’t miss this one. Those who managed to squeeze in before will know to expect a groove laden set guaranteed to nod the head of those hip to the real deal. The band includes some of the UK’s most experienced and funky musicians and vocalists whose personal CVs include many of the biggest names in music. The rhythms will be hard n nasty, the horns tight n funky and the vocals soaring n soulful. Dress code is minimal or come nude, it will be sweaty. Get your tickets soon to avoid missing out. DOTFUNK are: Dan Pearce vocals & perc Michelle John vocals Rob Harris guitar Paul Turner bass Derrick McKenzie drums Matt Steele keys The Hit Horns: Dan Carpenter trumpet Richard Beesley tenor sax Simon Wilescroft alto sax Dave Williamson trombone
24. Godin semi acoustics are really nice. Capture some of the acoustic vibe, look pretty cool, IMHO, and feel pretty much like a 'regular' bass so you spend more time actually playing with the band rather than struggling with technique.
25. I saw Wham's unofficial 'rehearsal' gig at the Brixton Academy for their 'official' last ever gigs at Wembley. Deon E was great, really funky and held the groove together so well. I have to own up that I went to the gig because I got free tickets from Capital Radio & only went because my wife loved Wham - however they were absolutely brilliant, great show & George M can really sing live. Of course Andrew R appeared to do nothing much other than strum a guitar & the odd backing vocal (that's assuming he wa seven plugged in!).
