1. Just adding to this - I've heard people worry about the RH450 being under-powered. I wonder if it's the same issue?
2. Interesting - I wonder if it's adding bit of saturation before the master volume or simply driving the master level harder and improving the tone somehow? I'm really no expert at this sort of stuff, lol.
3. Isn't the preset level just an additional volume 'balancing' control? I'm not sure I understand why this would effect the core tone (other than reducing/increasing volume)? I always have mine around 12 o'clock with slight adjustments for each preset so they all have similar levels.
4. £280 is an absolute steal for something like this! Complete standalone combo for most gigs and you can find a matching 1x15 pretty cheaply if required too. I used to gig with the 1x15 combo and 2x10 can. Covered gigs of all sizes
5.
Playing six string bass now, Barrie?
I think you'll find I'm carrying a little more 'girth' that the guy in those pics
6. Trans white with a maple neck - one of my favourite colour combinations! I love off white basses with maple necks
7.
Would love to get my thumbs on this.
It's definitely something that cries out for a 'thumb' master
8. Quick bump for Josh - great guy to deal with and all of his basses are always exactly as described & seriously playable
9. At least one Roger Waters P bass is sitting in a Hard Rock in Grand Cayman - given that's not exactly the highest profile of their branches I'd suggest he's ben through a few over the years. . .
10. I'd definitely go for the 'swapping songs' route up front. Humyo is a great site to upload everything so that people can learn stuff in advance. Stick to original keys where possible to begin with & then re-work for vocalists when required. Really needs one person to 'take charge' though & get organising. There's a time and place for pure democracy but the earliest stages of forming a band may not be one of them, lol.
11. Call me an old cynic but if a producer is suggesting string brands than I'd hazard a guess he's going for the only ones he's heard of Rotosounds have been around for ages & remain probably the best known strings amongst people who don't actually play bass. That's not to say there's anything intrinsically wrong with Rotos but they are a bit of an 'acquired taste' IMHO. For a really good balance of price, feel & sound then a light(ish) set of D'Addarios are hard to beat for a good balanced feel & sound. Personally I prefer Elixirs but they are expensive & some people don't get on with the coated feel.
12. ooh a DB659, I've always thought these looked really nice, don't know much about the Eden power amp (he says as he heads off to Google-land!). . .
13. Damn, I'm up to 14 (including three incoming) - how did that happen?
14. I think it's a tough call because there are so many factors at play. A manufacturer ceasing production because he can't sell enough often has the perverse effect of pushing prices up due to scarcity. If someone like Roger Sadowsky were to go bust today I'd predict that prices of used NYC basses would go through the roof for a while & then settle to a simple supply/demand related price. Pretty sure the same would be the case for Jimmy Coppolo or Chris Celinder (in fact I'm not sure that this isn't already happening with Celinders?). Scarcity & good word of mouth are obviously the big factors in determining desirability & ultimately price. Take a look at used Fodera & Alembic prices. Although they might appear to be half what a new one might cost a lot of these have held value amazingly well. I know, from painful experience, that it's damn near impossible to find a used Fodera Monarch for under £3,500 & that's for a mid 80's bass. The big difference with Fenders, IMHO, is that they are better known than exotic boutique brands and more likely to be sought after by pure collectors (as opposed to players) and also people who might dip in and out of the market. I know of at least one person who plays guitar very rarely but had the money to buy pretty much anything he wanted - he shunned all the new options like PRS etc & bought a '60's Strat in Denmark Street. His view was that it would never lose money if he decided to flog it, unfortunately he was wrong by a pretty massive margin - when he realised he never played the thing & tried to sell it the best offer he got was about £2K less than he paid for it. Now, this may be simply because he paid too much for it in the first place & that the market is pretty depressed now; however it did crystallise for me the thought that an old Fender isn't exactly the wonderful hedge against inflation that maybe I'd thought
15. I've been putting off selling this as part of my ongoing clear out because it's such a lovely bass to play but thought I'd better put it out there to see if there's any interest as I simply have too many basses kicking around! Built at Performance Guitar in Hollywood CA, by Yasuhiro Yokote; an amazing custom builder with a client list that reads like a who's who of LA guitar gods! There's a really good article about Performance Guitars here http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issu...nce_Guitar.aspx They have been making a very limited range of basses with the most notable being the Louis Johnson Signature Black Dragon. This particular modal was a specially commissioned custom with extra elements added like the neck reverse; Tobacco Burst finish; additional Bartolini Jazz pickup on neck; John East Preamp. Unsurprisingly, given that it's a Louis Johnson Signature, it's a complete slap monster with that big Bartolini humbucker in the bridge. Pretty rare to find a custom build take on the classic Musicman Stingray bridge humbucker design ethic. However the addition of the extra pickup & the J East circuit (both fitted from new by Performance) takes this to a whole other level in terms of flexibility. Personally I like it with both pickups on full and a little passive tone roll off It's a seriously nice bass to play and genuinely looks absolutely like new, not a single mark that I know of. The satin finish is a real head turner & every single person that's tried this has said how impressed they were with it. In fact of all the basses I've owned it's probably been the one that's been most universally praised - and that's saying quite a lot! Specs are: Louis Johnson Signature Black Dragon Custom Bass: Body: US alder (2 pieces center jointed) Neck: US maple with 1 3/4' nut (standard P bass nut width but not an overly chunky neck) Fretboard: Indian Rosewood Frets Frets: 21 medium gauge Bridge: Bad Ass II Gold Tuning: Hip Shot HB-1 Gold Pickups: Bartolini US Humbucker Bridge/ Bartolini US single Jazz Neck Preamp: John East UK 5 knobs Deluxe Gold Jack: Top gold jack Finish: Tobacco burst Tint: Satin (Body & Neck) Options: Elbow contour Special Louis Johnson slap contour Neck reverse Weight: 8.8 Ib (4kg) The basic Louis Johnson bass model costs $4,000 (without shipping and VAT !) and this model with the various extras would add at least $500 to that. Comes with an equally immaculate hard case & happy to ship anywhere
16. Couple of trade offers in on this but nothing has quite come off yet. I'll listen to offers of basses or amps so feel free to try me with something if you fancy some 'boutique' P action
17. Had some PX offers on this but nothing that's quite worked - having said that, you never know what might tempt me
18. Swapped messages with Jon today, should be ready soon if anyone wants to try at his place before I get it back
19. I think you need to see if you can try them really - the are going to be sound quite different (not least because of the speaker configuration). Prices on both are good compared to values over here. Watch out for condition of the cabs themselves. Early TC's mark & chip very easily, doesn't effect how they sound but they can get tatty looking very quickly. DB's can get damage to the cloth grille quite easily and the lighter colour means they'll show marks more easily if not looked after properly. Generally Aggies are going to be easier to sell on &, personally, the 2 x 112 cab configuration is my favourite for overall balance plus flexibility etc. However I've used a TC210 for a while & it's a nice cab, not tried a pair together but I think they'd sound really punchy if you like the 10" speaker sound
20. How good was that - really nice bass sound and the director seemed to really favour him ahead of Bluey (who hardly gets a look-in really, lol).
21. You see - this is why I love BC! I buy something vaguely bulky that's a 6 hour return trip & in less than 24 hours I get people happily volunteering to collect it for me & package it up to ship P.S. Jake - I didn't get your PM but Peety lives close by & has said he'll organise for me
22. I put a random bid in on Ebay thinking I'd never win but the market appears to be so dead that I managed to be successful and won a pair of, relatively small, Aguilar GS 12" cabs. Listing says personal collection only & I could drive up to get them but it's about 3 hours each way so a bit of a trek. I know it's a long shot but if anyone was close by and could both collect them & then package them up for me so i could pay for a courier then I'd be eternally grateful! Obviously I'd cover all costs & will be up in Manchester for Bass Day later in the year so would definitely have my beer buying wallet with me
23. Lovin' those drum clips! Listening to them right now
24. All I'm prepared to say is that if I sold all of my basses I could clear my mortgage - thinking about it this way makes me feel like they are an investment & not a cost, lol
