1. Hi everyone - some exciting news I think I've managed to get a bit of a 'coup' from Phil Nixon who's in the process of setting up his new BassGear business. Two of his new distrubution deals are with Alleva Coppolo and Bag End. Phil can't make it himself on Sunday but he's going to drop off a pair of ex NAMM Alleva Coppolo basses plus some Bag End cabs for people to demo on Sunday. I've known him for a while & his dad lives near me so Phil was able to drop these down for me to collect and bring on Sunday. I'll bring my two as well so we'll have 4 in total - I'm not sure there's ever been so many on display in the UK at one time! The four will be: My two 1 x LTD4, J shaped body, trans cherry finish, composite rosewood board with Aguilar pre-amp & pickups. Built for Aggie to demonstrate their electronics at Winter NAMM this year. 1 x Signature 4 - the ex Willie Weeks bass with a P bass body & J pickups plus Jimmy's J pre amp. This one has been around the world with Willie on tour with Eric Clapton Phil's NAMM pair 1 X KPB4 Classic Supreme - originally built for Chuck Rainey (who's now ordered the same basic spec but in a 5 string) in spalted cherry maple with brazilian rosewood board 1 x Ltd Edition LG5 in walnut with a walnut neck, skunk stripe & passive pre. Very rare ltd bass built as part of pair to show how Jimmy would build one of these basses with a solid walnut finish. I've tried to attach some pics below - apologies they are of different sizes and shapes - not enough time to re-size them all properly. There's also a pdf from Jimmy about the walnut basses (unfortunately I can't bring both so asked to use the 5 string as all the others are 4's). Phil has also bought some new Bag End cabs down & I'll try to fit in as many as I can. Hopefully 1x15, 1x12 & 1x10. May mean I can't bring some of my own stuff that I was planning to bring but thought this was a great opportunity to show some of these amazing basses all in one place!
 2. Might be some quite exciting news on the basses to test out front - more to be revealed soon
 3. Looks like USA's 91st minute goal means we are now clashing with England's next match - not only that but we've got Germany again! Kick off time is 15:00. . . I have to take some blame for this as I didn't look beyond the first round of games I've asked if there's any options to set up a TV in the hall.
 4.
Will there be a fridge, or a cooler? I ask as it looks like it's going to be very hot weather on Sunday! Otherwise food may get a little worse for wear...
Yep - we have access to a fridge (although no idea how big it is!).
 5. Umm, I really fancied this when Marc sold it first time around. 2x12 cab is more tempting than a 1x15 too!
 6. I'm happy to pay for some food on the day. If anyone wants to go to Tesco there's a monster one a few minutes drive away though
 7.
I don't suppose it took Fender/SWR long to decide to endorse her
I think before she'd even released anything
 8.
sorely tempted by this... I'm trying to persuade the 9 other members of our Funk/Disco/Soul Band to "funk things up a bit" - somthing along these lines: http://www.pimphats.com/ Maybe if I said "I'll get the Bootsy Bass if ye get the clobber" it might tip the scales... Best of luck with the sale. I'll have to stay away from Basschat for a while, in case I'd do something rash... Regards, Sean
Great site - the pic with a bass player really needs a Bootsy and not a Ricky bass though Just to confirm - THIS BASS IS NOW SOLD
 9. Came across an ad featuring Nik West with an SWR Black Beauty combo: Some nice soul/funk groove playing : http://www.myspace.com/nikkywest Demoing the SWR Headlite: Playing some solo stuff: Looks good with a Fender bass too
 10. Looking like we are bereft of "rubber fans and funkateers" May have to consign this back to the loft for safe-keeping for a while
 11. Great basses! Unfortunately I am also 'over-stocked' at the moment though
 12.
wow was wacthing this on the flea bay butt totally out of my price range i was about 800 quid out!!!! beutiful.
Me too - loving the inlays
 13.
Sounds like some DNS related problems that only affects some DNS servers.
Just tried from my office location & it zapped straight in - I'll try sending them a note about it
 14. I must admit that the one I had blew something fairly major within only 2 weeks of owning it! Can't remember exactly what it was - just turned it on one day & it went 'bang'. The Bass Centre in Wapping repaired it under warrenty & it was fine for the next year or so before I sold it and, as far as I know, the subsequent owner used it for some time without any problems.
 15.
6 hours is a long time on eBay.
Jumped £200 in half an hour
 16.
works for me on Firefox 3.6.3
How odd, I'm using exactly the same browser and I keep getting the 'can't find server' message. I've tried going to the deep-linked options direct from Google but get the same message for any page that I try.
 17. Still nothing here. Cleared all cookie caches for each browser but all I'm getting is can't find the server at www.bassmerchant.com
 18.
That's why I kept my Markbass amps as well as the RH450 - the one sound that eludes the RH450 is that super hi-fi clean sound I can't get from my F500.
How does the WT compare in that respect Alan?
 19.
hmmmm..thinking about the SM900 as well... apart from the convert..what do you think the things will cost to import? I can see me having to go to the U.S to get what I am looking for....
Have a quick look around on TalkBass & see if there are any up for sale I'm a veteran of buying basses from the US so happy to help on payment, shipping, import duties etc.
 20.
It really depends on the amp. Some amps it's as easy as flicking a switch, some need to have a couple connections changed, some adapt automatically, and some need an new power transformer. What is the amp? If it can be done, there's no reason to think it would be less reliable. Nowadays, basically any amp that you buy in the UK is identical to those released in north america and japan, manufacturer's don't change their designs -- the only difference is the voltage switch has been done at the factory.
The one I saw was an SWR SM500 - the thing that made me think it was not too hard was that I've just bought another SWR which has been adapted & it works just fine
 21. Ok, so I have to own up that I'm struggling a bit to get the sound in my head out of my RH450 + RS212 / RS210 rig. It sounds really nice and 'warm' but I'm more of a modern 'hi-fi' sound kinda person and I can't seem to coax this out of the RH. I picked up an old SWR ST220 this week & love the sound of this straight out of the box without even touching the tone controls, dial in a little aural enhancer & it's pretty much exactly the sound I'm after. Nice and punchy & with lots of sparkly high end. I'm running this into the RS cabs so it's definitely something in the head I'm having problems with. I'd love to be able to replicate this sound with the RH because of the wonderful flexibility of the pre-sets & tuner but I can't seem to find it so far
 22. I recently spotted an amp in the USA that I quite fancied but was put off by the thought of running a separate external voltage converter. However I recently bought a new amp that has had an internal conversion carried out & this made me think about whether this was an easy job for a pro amp tech or whether it would cost a lot of money and/or maybe unreliable for a gigging amp?
 23.
I've got the owner's manual - I sold my SM400 a couple of years ago, but couldn't find the manual at the time to give to the guy (I had it from new - must have been over 20yrs ago) - it's re-appeared since when we moved house. I'll dig it out for you...
That would be really cool - my old one definitely had the recommended settings at the back but I'm not sure that every edition had these..
 24.
Yes, agree.. 220, same stable as the 400 without the stereo function, it seems. That Beller link is good but I can't believe he runs the enhancer at 6..????? I assume it has the same sub problem as the SM400. Anyway..a classic series and made for a Jazz bass, IMV
I'd seen the Beller stuff before but had forgotten all about it - enjoyed reading it again, thanks for that Count B I wasn't sure what he meant about the enhancer at 6 - I usually use 'clock face' positioning so to me '6' would be with the marker pointing vertically downwards & you can't actually do this. I assumed he must mean at 6 clicks from the off position which makes it about 1 o'clock I think. It really does work well with my Celinder J bass, maybe a bit too crystal clear for the Sadowsky (in my hands anyway as it shows up all my dodgy technique, lol).
