1. Josh has an RC50 & it's pretty cool - worth zapping him a note Steve Lawson uses one of these now I think http://www.looperlative.com/ Maybe give him a shout as he's a real looping whizz & usually pretty chatty http://www.looperlative.com/
2. So I have a yearning to check the neck stamp on one of my basses but I've never done this before. Is it simply a case of unscrewing the bolts & sliding it off & then screwing them back until they feel 'tight' or do I need to be super careful about anything?
3.
Nice one Molan!
To quote Del Boy - "he who dares, wins"
4. Alesis SR 16 any good? I've got one I don't need now as I'm running a PC based app instead. It's in near perfect condition and cost me £50 a couple of months ago
5. My Alleva Coppolo just came from the US in the single version of this - great cases!
6. I've always thought these looked really cool - I'd love to hear what they sound like!
7. Another big thumbs up for Ville - top man and a great sense of humour, always makes me smile We did a deal quite a while ago now and still in touch now & then
8.
Hi why not make an ono you never know you may get lucky, the price is negotiable and its a lot of bass even at £2700 Regards Geoff
Ok then, you have a PM, you can't blame a man for trying! I only just missed the last one by being a bit slow off the mark
9. School caretaker says the hall will be fine with multiple amps running simultaneously and there is access to a fridge we can use on the day
10. I bought a case from Marc recently - my second deal him and he's always great to deal with Turned out to be a bit more expensive than planned as the £35 case materialised into a £300 pair of hi-fi speakers at the same time, lol. Speaking of which - Marc is very much the man to speak to with regards to hi-fi stuff
11. last time I was asked to lend something I simply said it was fine so long as I got 100% of the value as a deposit in cash before it was used and that I reserved the right to retain any part of this if any of my gear was damaged in the slightest way. Obviously difficult to prove at times and damage could, theoretically, appear at a later date. However in this instance it wasn't an issue because the band in question immediately 'found' their own gear. . . I have offered to lend stuff to friends I've made here on BC several times though and would absolutely try to help out if someone had an important gig or session etc.
12. Looks really nice Mike You might want to reduce those original image sizes as they make the page really slow to load (it crashes my BlackBerry, lol).
13. This really is the only bass that I have any kind of serious GAS for. Out of my price league though - I should really have jumped on the last one hat came up for sale here
14. If anyone uses Google maps then watch out for the fact that they are showing the school a lot closer to the stations than it actually is. GMaps show it about half way down Bellvue Road from the main Friern Barnet Road. It's actually right down the bottom of Bellvue Road near a road called the Crescent. Distances from Arnos Grove tube is just under a mile - they say this is an 18 minute walk (but maybe longer if you're lumping a bass!). New Southgate overground is almost exactly half a mile and a 10 minute walk. There's a handy cab office right opposite Arnos Grove Station if needed in an 'emergency'
15. I've been there when it's had stage lights & a basic PA set up but I'm not 100% sure about the electrics overall. It's a decent sized London school though so I'm sure it's had health & safety people all over it. I'll see if I can ask the caretaker though
16. I don't work far from Denmark Street - may pop in and have a scout around V&R this week. Haven't been there for ages, their listed prices always frighten me, lol.
17.
What the bloody hell am I going to do? I love it already - If it's a player I'm going to be totally in the sh1t!
Negotiate hard on the price - I don't think he qualifies as a celebrity, that wouldn't add a thing to the value of it anyway.
18.
Didn't pay too much attention to this initially... does this mean it's active?
That's what I wondered - pretty sure a standard old P / Tele Bass wouldn't have any routing through the rear of the bass . . .
19. Normally I don't really go for the older P style basses but there's something eally quite cool about this one Loving the pearloid guard and the fact that it's matched on the rear as well :
20. "An intimate portrait of the legendary bass guitarist for The Who. This documentary includes the last footage ever recorded with John Entwistle, and features interviews with Pete Townshend, as well as other major figures in rock history" No idea if it's any good but worth sticking on the Sky+ to see what it's like Repeated at 4:00 AM on Tuesday 8th - maybe again later in the week. It's in HD at both times as well
21.
From what I can see it also came in 3-tone sunburst and black - both with with a tort guard, maple neck & black inlays. Do you know if there was 100 of each colour or 100 in total (in which case yours is maybe even rarer!)?
May have answered my own question: "Fender LTD. 1970 Jazz Bass Closet Classic in Natural Fender is pleased to offer the 1970 Jazz Bass LTD (Natural) guitar in a team-built limited run of 100 instruments. This bass looks as beautiful as it sounds. The two-piece premium ash body has a three-ply white pickguard; the one-piece quartersawn maple neck ('70s U shape) has a gloss urethane finish and white binding, with a 7.25"-radius maple fingerboard, white Pearloid block position inlays and 20 medium jumbo frets. The sound comes from twin vintage-style Jazz Bass single-coil pickups (bridge pickup is 1/4" closer to bridge than normal). Other features include nickel/chrome hardware, vintage-style reverse tuning machines and an American Vintage Jazz Bass bridge. Also included are a Fender Custom Shop limited edition decal and certificate, plus a deluxe black hardshell case (orange interior), strap and cable. This bass features our "Closet Classic" treatment-built as if it was bought new in its respective model year, played maybe a few times per year and then carefully put away. It has a few small dings, a mildly checked finish, lightly oxidized hardware and aged plastic parts." Looks like there were 100 made in natural finish so not sure what the black and 3TS models were - I found a pair for sale though so they definitely exist, lol.
22.
.. wasn't this originally Mark L. (marcus)'s bass (then BossHog, GreyParrot...) ?.. Can't be too many of these around !
Spot on David, I thought I'd seen one like this before - assuming it is the same one then I remember some of the 'fuss' surrounding the last pair of transactions
23.
only 100 made Barrie..
Ah ha, I think I've sussed it now. The only current Jazz bass from Fender in the Custom Shop Closet Classic or Relic model range is a '64. This one is a 'hybrid' '70's edition with some elements from both early & late '70's models. From what I can see it also came in 3-tone sunburst and black - both with with a tort guard, maple neck & black inlays. Do you know if there was 100 of each colour or 100 in total (in which case yours is maybe even rarer!)?
