1. Nice one Rich. I have to say this is the first Fender I've had any serious interest in for some time. I'd love to see that CAR finish in the flesh
2. Do you know which spec this is? I know Jimmy has Basic / Standard / Classic / Classic Supreme. Looks a lot like the Standard he uses on his site for display purposes
3.
Maybe you can tell me what bass i will have 4 basses down the line from you, save me some time!
Next logical upgrade from the '75 J RI is probably my Shuker J with custom options: I'll keep you posted on it, lol
4.
Nice looking bass - love the green. I did look at this one closely myself when I saw it up for sale. Bet it will be a cracker. Neil.
So it's finally on its way! Slight payment glitch as someone in the US owed me money & agreed to pay the seller direct for me & then promptly went on tour & forgot! Should be here in a week or so There's some really nice shots of it being played by the current owner here: http://www.lifechurch.tv/player-only/file/...words_640x360_8
5. Well, it's on the Bay and has a zillion watchers but no bids yet. A few offers from overseas but Id much rather it stayed in good old blighty
6.
Hey Barrie, Philly now owns your lovely Fender Jazz that I bought from you. Is there any bass that you have not owned on here? :)
There are a few, lol. And quite a lot of them still inspiring much GAS. . .
7. Looks really nice - I've been really researching these recently and read some extremely good reviews of them from actual owners (as opposed to people who've spent 10 minutes playing in a busy shop). Nice to have the old Pope pre-amp in it as well. Some reviews suggested there was a slight issue when they stopped using these but I think the very latest ones have very good pre amps in them as well now Unfortuantely I'm a 4 string guy these days
8. I think this might have been mine for a while - very nice bass. Replaced it with an NYC Sadowsky which cost over a grand more but wasn't proportionally better!
9. Wow this one is a beauty Gwil For anyone who doesn't know Gwil I have to say he's a top bloke who really knows his basses - everything he has is absolutely top drawer
10.
any pics of the rash?
Is it just me or does anyone else find this request a little disturbing
11. I really miss my Spectors If I hadn't gone back to 4's then I'd definitely have kept at least one NS5XL in the toy cupboard I found a new 4 string one of these water cured beuaties up for sale recently and was seriously tempted!

13. Maceo & the Macks - love the sax on this
14. Kubicki with the 6 way switching option Position 1 = off - saves needing a mute on the amp 2 = something close to an active Jazz with decent onboard tonal options as well 3 = a bit like the above but with some lower end bass boost & mid scoop, ok for a solo or when you need a bit more oomph 4 = passive Jazzy sounds 5 = passive mid cut 6 = passive treble cut for a decent P sound Gives you enough range to cover a lot of cover band needs without a pedalboard or lots of amp fiddling It's also light, small bodied and virtually no headstock for those tight spaces on cramped stage, lol
15.
Cor blimey guv. not interested in a part exhange with the pedulla fretless?
I'm afraid I've reverted to 4 strings only these days looks lovely though
16.
If Steve Rowse has serviced this you can be sure it's 100% spot-on. He is a total legend. Bump for fabulous amp!
Couldn't agree more - his house should be registered as a valve amp heritage site He also said he was happy to quote him as a reference on any future sale - where have you ever heard that before!
17. Absolutely great cab, only selling as I've bought a new TC Electronics head and am a bit of a 'completist' so bought a pair of TC cabs to go with it! This uses Bergantino's exclusive new Neodymium 12" speakers with very full, yet tight, low end and loads of bass extension. Can easily handle a lot of gig situations on its own given the great depth of tone it has. Incredibly light weight, easy one handed lift Pairs really well with either another Berg 12 or their 2x10 for larger gigs where more volume is required. Official specs are: Model AE112 specifications: 1 x 12" Custom Neodymium driver with 7 oz magnet high intelligibility 1" tweeter custom phase - coherent crossover with tweeter level control power handling - 300 watts rms frequency response: 40hz - 18khz sensitivity: 100db @ 1 Watt/1 meter 2 x 1/4" and 2 x neutrik connectors impedance: 8 ohms dimensions: 15 3/4"H x 18-1/2"W x 15"D 40cm x 47cm x 38cm weight: 31lbs/14 Kgs This is in superb condition & looks like it just left the shop - partially due to the official Bergantio padded cover that comes with it (these are £60 each new!) New price on one of these is £549 + £60 for the cover = £609. Note - Some of the pics below show 2 cabs but one of these has already gone, they really are indistinguishable from each other so I can't be sure which is which in these pics! Should be ok to ship this as it's so light - I'd guess about £25 depending on location - or happy to meet up somewhere within an hour or so of South Oxfordshire -
18. Ooh this is nice Shag I've had a bit of a yearning for a BC Rich ever since I saw that wonderful YouTube vid of Maceo Parker's bass man using one on Shake Everything You've Got (although I think that's a different model he's using!). I'd always associated BC's with modern rock before I saw that. Of course then I discovered the Bernard Edwards connection as well! May have to do some thinking about this one. . .
19. I think this was mine for a while so i can attest to just how nice it is. Really 'playable' and great depth of tone
20. So it's finally time to think about moving on my rather amazing Ampeg SVT-II. This is one of the original 'non-pro' versions with a single master volume control. It was purchased from new about 20 years ago by a friend of mine for his band who had a new recording contract & gigs lined up. However the band broke up soon afterwards and the Ampeg sat in it's Mesa Boogie Sus-4 shockproof rack until I took it off his hands. When I first fired it up it had an irritating little buzz but a trip down to see the wonderful Steve Rowse identified the problem and it's now all fixed and back as good as new. When I say "as good as new" I'm really not exaggerating - there's a couple of small marks on the back but the front is near perfect and even the top is free of those scratches you usually get with amps that have been in and out racks. The shock rack really has done it's job at not only protecting the exterior from damage but it's kept out any signs of damp & dust etc. as well. The case is included in the sale as well, it's got a few marks from just being moved around a garage but it's in very good nick generally and all catches & fittings work perfectly. Thought by many pro musicians to be the 'best amp ever made' and these have an amazing reputation in the States. I won't go into loads of detail here as I'm guessing that anyone reading this already knows a fair bit about the SVT series and the II in particular. General view is that the II has all the classic tone of the original Ampeg all valve amps but with the flexibility of a rack mount and a switchable graphic (this is also foot switchable so can be used to set up a full 2nd channel option either for a different tone or just a volume boost). Here's a quote from TalkBass where the II has its very own appreciation thread: It's a much better sounding amp (to my ears) than the SVT-CL and II Pro but gets lumped in with them based on the model number. I find more clarity, but also more depth and roundness. It sounds very similar to the VR (and therefore in theory to the vintage "holy grail" SVT) but you also get a footswitchable EQ (nice option if you need/like it) and a balanced line out. I really do love the sound of this amp and it can cover a lot more bases than you might think. When I first had it a friend used my Sadowsky NYC through it and it sounded a complete slap monster. It's certainly much purer and cleaner that any other valve amp I've heard. It kills with big loud rock but won't begin to break into valve distortion unless it has a boost pedal in front of it. It's rated at 300W but these are some seriously loud valve watts and easily loud enough for pretty much any gig! It's all valve and I think there's about 16 of the buggers in it (all recently tested as being OK). This makes it pretty hefty at around 70-80 lbs. It's an OK lift on its own but the rack case is bomb-proof and also pretty hefty at about 40lbs - 50lbs. When racked I can lift it but it's ideally a 2 person job. I don't really think it's shippable but I'm willing to consider this if someone's really desperate. Happy to meet up within an hour or so from South Oxfordshire. OK - that's about it for now, a near perfect all valve classic Ampeg with hardly any use in the toughest of rack cases. I can't imagine there's a better condition original vintage one of these in the country. . . Priced at £1,150 with the case and the case alone must be worth over £150 (retail on these is £500 from Boogie!) so that makes theequivalent amp price just £1,000 Might be interested in trades for an interesting or easy to sell bass but I don't need any amps / cabs really
21. Sunday 13th is a big day for footy: The mouthwatering prospect of Algeria v Slovenia @ 12:30 followed by the even more exciting Serbia v Ghana @ 15:00. Germany v Australia might actually hold some interest @ 19:30 Sunday 20th ups the skill ratio with Slovakia v Paraguay @ 12:30, Italy v New Zealand @ 15:00. Again the best match is in the evening with Brazil v Ivory Coast @ 19:30 No matches on either 6th or 27th
22. I have a burn of the original video on my PC, it's about 800mb & not fantastic quality. His playing sounds fine but when he's talking it's a little muffled. Phenomenal style - I'm watching it right now! "now this lick is very common - everyone who slaps plays this - but not everyone can play it this fast" I have the video somewhere - happy to 'recycle' if anyone wants it PM me for details.
23. Your first post seems to have run out of steam half way through Chris
