As someone who's owned quite a few high & lower end basses all I can say is that you really can tell the difference as you move up the scale. Of course there will be some expensive basses that don't hit the mark, or simply don't suit the player but others just get better & better. My current favourite is a Celinder and I think this sums this maxim up perfectly. At the end of the day it's simply a J bass 'copy' but it's just soooo much better than any other J derivative 4 string I've ever played. Nothing flashy, no expensive custom wood top, no great bank of tone controls and switching options etc. but just a fabulous bass to play. I recently 'tested' it fairly extensively over a period of a few days against a very good £700 value bass and another worth around £1,100 & it just killed them both in so many ways. Both of them were really very nice basses in their own way and if I could only afford the £700 one I would be more than happy with it, same goes for the £1,100 (these are used values by the way, probably £950 & £1,800 new). New it would cost about £3.5K - is it 'worth' more than a £700 bass and/or is it 5 times better, absolutely not. Would I choose it ahead of the £700 bass - every time. . .

I'm all for Fender improving and expanding their range but one thing I've never quite understood is the "if only Fender made a bass that was like/as good as a Sadowsky". If Sadowsky make a bass which is as good as a Sadowsky why not just buy a Sadowsky instead of wanting Fender to build a 'copy'? Not taking a pop at anyone here I promise, just not quite seeing the point of wanting a Fender to make something that is like one of the 'super-jazz' basses out there (unless they drastically undercut them on price and match them on genuine quality & keep resale value").

I'd agree on pricing - cheapest I've ever seen in the States is around $2,500 (for a KPB4 which doesn't have the electronics of the LG / LM / RA series). That's £1,625 over here but as soon as you add shipping at about £100 and import duties then you're over £2K pretty quickly. Bearing in mind this is bottom end pricing and without any frills you can hit £2.5K for an LG. Add Nitro & a Dalbergia Negra board (if you can find one) and that £3.5K price approaches very quickly indeed. . .
How much (ballpark) are you talking about for an LG5 second hand? (braces for impact and subsequent sharp intake of breath!)
Lots of variables and they can make a huge difference to the price (both new & used). Nitro finish and upgraded fingerboards are both expensive & very desirable options.
I played this bass, it was a laugh. I'd love to own it Great sounding too.
I think it's the core sound that surprises most people - it genuinely does sound really nice and, even with a muppet like me playing it, you really can get a Bootsy-alike tone through an auto-wah -

Ok - so I'm only putting this up for sale as I have my eyes on something and am determined that every time I buy something new that something else goes out the door! If the other bass sells then I'll withdraw this as It's such a fun piece of kit to have around the house Bought last year on a complete whim as I'm a huge Bootzilla fan. As Traben themslelves put it: Traben Bootsy Star - Aerofunkaronics to the 5th level! Five pointed star, five Rockfield™ pickups, the largest Bigger Bridge we've ever designed, three Aguilar® Amplification pre-amps and endless tone settings can only be found on the Bootsy Star Bass. From the funky mind of Bootsy, comes this over-the-top tone monster. If you demand the most tonal control, head turning looks and the BIGGEST tone of all, the show-stopping Bootsy Star is for you! SPECS BRIDGE traben bootzilla star SCALE 34” CONSTRUCTION set neck PICKUPS five rockfield™ pickups fat bass-tard j-style ELECTRONICS 3 individual aguilar® amplification obp-3 pre-amps custom wired for various settings BODY basswood FRETBOARD rosewood NUT chrome plated brass INLAY bootzilla shooting star Yep, that's right, it has 5 pickups and no less than 3 individual Aguilar pre-amps. The pre-amps are 'voiced' for some fairly specific sounds - very loosely there's one relatively conventional setting, one that only works with real high frequency stuff & another that controls some serious lows. By playing with all of them you can dial in all sorts of sounds. To be honest I tend to leave everything turned full on and then whack it through a distortion / compressor / autowah combination for some Bootsy madness Of course this is totally one of those love or loathe basses but it really is fun to play and would be just great as a 'show bass' for anyone in a funky soul band. Much easier to play than it looks and balances fine on a strap. I've attached a couple of stock shots below of the bass and the control layout and can take some pics of mine if required. It is totally 'as new' without a mark on it in all it's pearlescent white glory. Comes with an equally crazy custom fit case that's designed to cosset the bass perfectly - lining is, of course, in purple fur Happy to ship anywhere but costs could be higher than a conventional bass because the case is a fair bit larger (I still have all the packing materials that it came in from the US). Happy to try and answer any questions!

Sold a bass to Gus and everything went super smoothly - almost the entire deal (even including payment) was handled via mobile connection as neither of us had easy access to a PC at the time we first started 'speaking' Good comms throughout the process and a pleasure to chat with

I recently bought a bass from So and he couldn't have been more helpful or better to deal with. He's based over in Lille and English isn't his first language but his communications were fantastic throughout the process. Shipped the bass within minutes of the payment hitting his bank account, supplied full tracking details for delivery and kept me posted on how everything was going. The bass itself is in stunning condition and is just lovely to look at & play smile.gif We also nattered about lots of, bass related, stuff along the way. Top man all round really - definitely someone to feel totally at home with if anyone wants to buy or sell.
I think I know which one it is, and I'm about to have mucho jealousy. I really love white basses, and a white AC? Damn!
Guy I know in the states recently picked up an LG5 in white with matching headstock and a tort guard - looks seriously nice!
