1. Warren recently bought a, particularly beautiful, bass from me. I was very sad to see it go but especially pleased it's gone to such a good home. Great communications throughout the buying / selling process and everything went very smoothly. Definitely someone I'd trust completely in any transaction
2. Amazing instruments - one of the best fretless basses I've ever played. Sourcing one of these new now would easily hit £5,500!
3. Is it this one? http://classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/sold_basses/billysheehanyamaha.htm Copy text appears to be the same.
4. Totally agree with this. I've tried a few multi effect pedals and every one falls short of the pedals they are trying to emulate. Complete pain in the donkey to work with as well
5. I have one of these to sit underneath my Jule Monique. Great little amps with a really detailed and powerful sound. I remember Paul Turner testing one in the store one morning. We put it up against a few other things and it beat them all for clean power and not to note definition
6.
I don't like anything form Aguilar, but it's really stunning bass! Good luck with this sale!
I don't think I've ever met anyone that dislikes the entire Aguilar range! So are you saying you've tried and don't like the DB, GS and SL speakers, DB 751 head, Tone Hammer heads and all the pickups, pre-amps and pedals? I'm genuinely amazed at this. . .
7. Damn, I'm having a bit of a clear out of basses at the moment but really want one of these!
8. I think I've got the original spec on this somewhere. I'll see if I can find it for you.
9. That looks great, love it!
10. If I manage to get the amp fixed I'd want one of these
11. I had one of these as my main gigging cab, paired with an SM400, for q good few years. Absolutely loved it in that combination and it only went because I needed something smaller for a while.
12. This looks really nice. The top on the Deluxe versions really makes a difference. My favourite of all the Skyline models from Lakland. Someone will be really happy with this
13. I went to the celebration of Vic's life gig tonight. Very emotional but great to see his basses and his new custom Ritter fan-fret in particular. Lots of people up and playing and amazing to see a certain Mr P Turner using Vic's beloved Yamaha Attitude on Superstition and Play That Funky Music White Boy! I miss our Vic so much but lovely to natter with family and friends and share some memories.
14. My first bass was an Olympic White Musicmaster back in '78. Sold it for a Pro One synth in the '80's and have been missing it ever since I keep thinking about buying one just to noodle around on at home and this looks a really nice example!
15. Matthew bought a cab from me recently. Really friendly & a great guy to natter to - sale was super-smooth and hassle free
16. Who was the builder?
17. I remember this one when Status first listed it Full Specs are: S2-Classic Headless 4-string, woven graphite bolt-on neck. Custom 32" scale fingerboard with 'BendWell'. 19mm string spacing. Bookmatched Walnut facing with walnut centre section. 2-piece solid Mahogany body. Natural on the front, deep cherry on the back. Custom 'soft feel' satin lacquer. Two Status soap-bar pickups. 3-band EQ with variable frequency midrange. Master volume, pickup blend control. Mono-rail bridge/tuner units. Black hardware. Have you asked Rob Green how much it might cost to repair that chip Stuart?
18.
interesting... i dont want to reassemble the bass because it was professionaly setup-ed. but it can be weird, you have 68 body and have 64 pots , pups ? why ? but you are right , its very hard.
It's very common for pots and pickups to be different dates from bodies and necks. From what you've said it sounds like the things that are definitely dated are the pots and neck. It could be that it's a complete '68 bass that just has some earlier pots in it. To get maximum value you'd need to pull it apart and take pictures of everything. It would even help to get shots of things like the cavities and neck pocket that might show the original colour and the first refinish. At the very least I think you'll need a picture of the heel of the neck with a date stamp that shows it's a '68. Just trying to help you value it as accurately as possible here, not trying to detract from how much it's worth
19.

Thanks for that It's really hard to date bodies as they often don't have any distinguishing marks or date stamps. As it's been refinished twice this can make it even harder to date sometimes. The dowel marks don't mean it's a '64, or pre-CBS though. Fender continued to use this method of finishing for well after '65. I have a pair of '68 J basses that both have the same dowel marks as my '63 and '64. Without any other dating references it could be difficult to prove the age of this body - it could potentially be a complete '68J with '64 pots and neck plate. Might be worth going back to the people who supplied the provenance document and asking for more information.
20. Can I ask how you've identified the body as a '64?
21.
Why does he leap on BF posts so quickly and regularly to denounce them? Has he got a personal gripe?
Now that would be telling. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to be as open and honest as I'd like to be
22.
I've followed this thread from day one and my admiration of the s**t-stirring abilities of molan just increases every time he posts. A perfect lesson in how to create a row - just brilliant! Thank you molan for being so entertaining. Really! Frank.
I do my best Frank, thanks for the vote of confidence 😂
23.
"However - We've never stocked BareFaced and won't take them as PX either." That's a strange business decision. Both Bergantino and Barefaced are in the top echelon of bass cabs ever made. Whether someone likes them or not doesn't change that fact. The reality is. . . you don't get "best in show" awards and reviews (as both these companies do) by not being one of the best.
It's not strange at all Chris, just basic integrity. We won't stock anything that we don't believe has a basic level of quality and that we can stand behind. Our reputation rests on supplying decent quality goods that we know will perform well, won't break and won't deteriorate rapidly. Too many customers with extremely bad experiences in terms of quality control and build for us to be able to sell them as a reputable dealer

Spector

I've owned a clutch of Spectors and really like the 5 string NS5XL's. I think I had 3 of them at one point and finally whittled them down to just one that became my only gigging bass. Then our female singer had to leave the band and I didn't really need that 5th string any more and I sold it - still miss that bass though I've got one of the early SSD 5's lurking in my loft at the moment that we're trying to sell for someone. Same basic build as the later Spector 5's but with a 34" scale instead of 35". I really can't tell the difference in tone and much prefer the shorter scale - may just dig it out tomorrow for a quick play
