I roadied for U2 in '79 (I think - may have been '80) - before Boy was released anyway, about the time of 11 o'Clock Tick Tock. They played 4 consecutive weeks at the Marquee and I was invited along from 2nd week onwards to help with some stuff (mostly some lumping of kit and helping Edge set up some guitar stuff). My bass playing at the time was frighteningly rudimentary (as it still is now, lol) but even then I remember thinking that I could have played most of Adam Clayton's stuff. Bono & Edge were brilliant back then though. Each week the Marquee got busier & by the last gig it was rammed to the rafters because word had got out how good they were. As others have said though - I still work in an office and AC's had a rather nice life being mates to a couple of talented rock Gods. . .

Hmmmm! am I just suspicious by nature?
molan replied to loudandclear's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I was interested in just the neck (which looks pre EB to me) so I've asked for details from reverse of headstock. Apparently the bass is in a lock-up that's inaccessible due to snow. If I hear more I'll post details. . . -
I once got a free set of strings signed by Bruce Foxton as part of a Rotosound promo tour. I always thought it was a bit oddd to be signing a packet of strings but they were free so what did I care Most of the people queuing up were 'just' Jam fans and I was the first bass player of the day to turn up. Bruce was super chatty and started talking about differences between his old Ricky and a P bass for live work etc. Eventually the PR guy managing the event moved me on so Bruce could get signing again, lol.

I read about this in Bass Player recently and wondered when SWR would start marketing it. I used to love my old SM400 - wonder if this can capture the sound in a tiny package? Has a valve in the pre & a class D power amp. They are also bringing out a matching power amp so you can get 800w in a single rack space if required (there's also a gig bag that will take both the head & amp together). :
I have a 75RI and its the bestest, easiest to play Jazz I have ever played. It's awsome.
I agree on the '75RI's. This particular one was mine for a while and it's lovely to play. In fact I have something similar heading my way quite soon. . .
Beautiful example of a great bass - I've not owned one of these (yet .. give it time!) but those I've tried have been just great. A friend of mine in the States has a handful of these (along with a number of unique Marleaux, Ritter and other 50+ instruments) - some of the first built by Michael T .... he tells me (repeatedly!) that they're not going anywhere !!....
I do think this is a particularly nice MTD with more 'depth' than some I've heard. I'm going to put this on 'hold' for a week as I have someone who's quite keen and is coming over for a second try-out next Friday And he's taken it home with him

I would say a Pedulla is going to be worth a fair bit more than your Ibby but the, 'very '80's, wood finish isn't doing a lot for me

And a big hi from Henley - not all that far from you. I was born in the lovely Woking General Hospital just over 50 years ago Always liked those baby split pickups on the Mustangs!
I totally agree! I think the 'done thing' is to PM the seller to let them know and give them the chance to amend the ad accordingly. If they don't, then... that's different. They become fair game, IMO.
Good shout Michael - I hadn't quite thought through that route!

Don't want to derail this thread but if someone says a bass is unavailable and discontinued and it actually isn't then surely that's a 'misleading' comment (however innocently made) and if someone else knows this then shouldn't they be able to inform people about it in the most relevant place? My reading of the first post was that the fact this was believed to have been discontinued added to the value and that that Ian was therefore right to point out that this wasn't the case. I owned a fretted sunburst one and sold it here on the forum back in '08. At the time I also put quite a high valuation on mine based on my view of old pricing when they were only available on import. A couple of people pointed out that there was a UK distributor and that new prices had fallen. I didn't take offence and reduced my valuation accordingly. Anyway - these are fabulous basses, fit and finish is first class & they look great in the flesh. Hope it goes to a good home
I owned that bass Barrie, congrats its a great one! I imported it from the States (it was second hand then) and sold it to Alan via the Gallery!! Sure there is a thread on here listing the differences somewhere.... Steve
Usual small world of BC eh Steve, lol. Did you get it from Miko's then?

Thanks for that ST. I think I've now established that mine has: Northern ash body Maple neck Maple fingerboard Celinder/Green Grove preamp Celinder pickups Chrome Hipshot hardware As I see you've listed the Update having 70's spacing does that mean the Classic & Vintage generally have '60's spacing? The other question was whether all the J bodies are the same - non-one's mentioned a difference between them so I'm assuming they are?

I'm in Who knows what I'll have in the bass arsenal by the time we have the date settled, lol. Anything in my sig below is a possible! I'll definitely try to hang on to the Bootsy until then as it's the most ludicrous of my 'toys' and a hoot to play! Will definitely still have the Epifani / Bergantino rig as well as I'm very settled on those.

Wow, only just noticed that this weighs 7.5lbs! That would be fantastic for live gigging work. Everything I've seen recently seems to be going the other way with the norm seeming to be heading up towards 10lbs. . . I wonder if it's a quality of woods available issue - are all the best light weight tone woods running out of stock?
-
How did I miss this when you posted it Sean! Those gold & black knobs look great on it, much nicer than the original fitment colours

Thanks for all this guys. I'll need to have a 'play' with the Greengrove now I know it has dipswitches to fiddle with! My one looks exactly like this: In fact - judging by the grain this might actually be my one! Looks a little deeper red in the flesh
