1. As I currently have builders in almost complete control of my house I'm thinking of getting someone who actually knows what they are doing to fit a couple of wall hangers up for me I like the Hercules design and wondered if there's any real difference between the wooden mounted ones with 2 screws and the metal mounts with 3 screws: I was vaguely heading for the metal one because of the extra screw but maybe the wooden base gives a more solid contact with the wall? Basically I've never used these before so totally paranoid about putting a £2K bass on one & it falling off the wall, lol.
  2. Hi Dirk, Not trying to be 'difficult' but on current exchange rates 55EU each (and 150 for three sets) is more expensive than you can pick up a set of 5 string Elites for from a retailer in the UK.
  3. I'm a regular listener to Craig Charles' Trunk of Funk every Saturday evening on BBC Radio 6 (or on repeat play via i-Player). Last night's show featured the Fantasy Funk Band as voted for by the show listeners: Male Vocal-John Turrell Female Vocal-Dionne Charles Guitar-Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds) Keyboards-James Taylor Drums-Mike Bandoni (Funkshone) Horns-The Haggis Horns Bass-Ernie McKone Plus a 'bonus' appearance from Snowboy on percussion I didn't hear all of it last night but much of what I did hear was really good - I love the Haggis Horns and they were brilliant on Move On Up. There's a vid of some of the songs here http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/shows/funk_soul/ if you just want to hear the horns doing their stuff then zap through to about 11 minutes or so and enjoy
  4.
I see where you're coming from, wouldn't want to bump the price of the bass up to silly money! Si
Good point Si - adding £12 to the overall price wouldn't actually have made the smallest difference to the overall cost!
  5.
What's it coming by? Seagull?
I reckon it actually arrived in the UK a while ago but ParcelFarce have only just got round to telling me about it (and asking for their £8 clearance fee!).
  6.
Molan Is it here yet??? I played Birdy's 'new' jazz on Sunday and it is fantastic - I want one! Has he come clean about which bass it is yet?
It's finally arriving on Monday! I missed the deadline by about 30 minutes to get it today & didn't want to pay the extra £12 to have it delivered tomorrow, lol. It's taken an age to get here - was posted in the US on about 10th October!
  7. Sounds nice - records really well
  8.
The weight of the bass is appr. 4,7 kg Dirk
That's about 10.4 lbs?
  9.
Sorry, I forgot to mention the sale-price: 3999 EURO Dirk
All I need is for the damn pound to recover against the Euro and get back to where it was a few years ago
  10. ooh this is nice - I'm a huge fan of those buckeye burl tops. One of these sold on EBay UK a few months back and I only just missed out on it

    Sold.
That's odd, my profile isn't set to private at all.
Works fine for me
  12. I used these guys for my house insurance: http://www.ehomeinsurance.co.uk/ And paid an additional premium to specifically cover musical instruments for professional use outside the home We've just had to claim for damage to a ceiling following leaky pipes & they were brilliant.
  13. I am so envious of you all - it looks like such a good day. I was mostly shopping in Macy's Washington at the time Although I did receive a rather nice Alleva Coppollo at my hotel the day before so it wasn't an entirely bass free weekend
  14.
Giving this thread a cheeky bump on the back of the SE Bass Bash workshop. I've got a couple of fortnightly slots going for anyone interested in learning. Jake
Looks like I've wangled myself a 4 day working week starting with almost immediate effect - might give me some time to get organised (at last!).
  15.
I just downloaded Aja a week or two ago, so I've broken my 'Dan Duck'. I'm liking it a lot.
Go for the box set - it's always my 'reserve' on the iPod playlist whenever I can't think what else to listen to
  16.
Did anyone on here buy Tommix's LG5? He said it's heading across the pond to the UK!! Looks like a real beauty as well. Steve
You're not very good at interpreting subtle hints you lot The answer is yes
  17. I very nearly bought this one a year ago: Oops - wrong forum. . .
  18.
I love buckeye burl.
Me too I'm still smarting from missing out on a buckeye burl MK Signature from a few months ago Looks gorgeous Lawrence, another 'dream' bass for the collection
  19. Nice one Michael, pleased to see the money went to a good home Are the P's missing their sibling yet?
  20.
it IS like that one, not quite as "sparkly" blue, with wine red scratchplate...the steve harris signature, iron maiden logo and Eddie (!) are on the front of the headstock too. the pots are metal but in black.
The pronounced sparkle may just be the effect of a flash. They always make colours look darker and highlight sparkle and flame finishes.
  21. Is it like this one? Love the blue colour
  22. Wow, haven't seen one of these for ages, looks lovely
  23.
Well spotted - that's seriously weird. I think that four is my bass (but it's not my sofa)...yep, just checked. It is mine. Tommix may have confused his pics (or there could be a stranger explanation)
It's not Tom's fault - it's mine I was randomly looking at pics of his basses and took the first ones to be the 5 that was up for sale and then spotted some more sunburst pics later in his collection so just stuck one of those in as well! The 4 is probably yours Lawrence as it's an older picture I see Tom lives in North Carolina and one of us is due to go touring the Carolinas and Georgia next week, maybe he'll pick it up whilst he's there
  24.
http://talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t...hlight=sadowsky Check out that beauty
I see this one is marked as 'sold pending' EDIT - and here's its 4 string cousin previously owned by the same seller Wonder who bought it and whether it might be heading over to the UK as well?
  25. Good shout Matt, Definitely worth getting as many valuations as you can. Dealer prices are all over the place at times. Some will go artificially high and say they'll fog it on commission for you and then they'll sit on it for a bit and tell you the market is dead and you'll need to drop the price to sell it. Others will go really low and offer sod all. Then they'll flog it for twice what they paid. 'Insurance' valuations are generally high to protect people against the possible loss and hassle of claiming. Basically it's a ll a bit of a minefield but worth seeing what a few pros say before you kick yourself by selling too cheap
