3. Now this is getting silly! £140 is an absolute steal for a decent quality 5'er. Ideal for someone wanting to try out a first 5 string or as a 2nd bass etc.
  4. Nice one Johnny L, sounds like it'll be great fun. Not many people can say they've played Wembley Stadium
  5. Ok - So I'm probably gonna split them up. Will do some checking on each individual unit tomorrow as I'm not home tonight
Gorgeous! (OT for OP: Spent last Sunday with g/f in Henley-on-Thames - stayed at Hotel du Vin - ate at the Spice Merchant - very nice town!)
Probably the best place to stay and the best restaurant too - you have very good taste
  7. Is there no option for a 'hard' reset on the XT and/or software supplied? Just a thought as I know this works with quite a lot of electronic kit like iPods & some mobiles etc. Something like this:
  8. Looks like a fun little piece of kit but I'm trying to have a bit of a pedal clear out & aiming to use a fairly simple Pod XT Live instead
  9. Ok, so I realise this is a bit of a long shot but I have 5 matching EBS pedals sitting next to me that hardly ever get used so I thought I might have a go at selling them all as a 'job lot' to save me the hassle of packaging & posting them all individually. I've bought these at different times so they are of varying age but they are all in great working order. I'd say the BassIQ & OctaBass have been on a board at some stage. I've never tried to use any of these with a battery so it's possible there's the odd dodgy connection somewhere (as is usually the way with battery power) but if someone wants them all then I'll throw in nice little basic mains power supply from SoundLab that has 6 power leads. The pedals & approx new prices are: MultiDrive £125 MultiComp £140 OctaBass £110 BassIQ £145 DynaVerb £160 All these prices are lifted straight from the Bass Direct site as I know them and trust them to have stuff in stock & will deliver when they say so I always tend to use them for price references. To buy new these would therefore come in at around £680 (over £700 with postage) So I thought maybe £450 the lot including the power supply - can probably chuck in some little patch cables as well just for good measure Not sure what postage would be but even when boxed up I can't imagine it would be a huge amount. Apologies for the slightly vague descriptions and lack of pics but thought I'd try to suss out whether there might be anyone out there with an EBS pedal fetish waiting to be satisfied before going through the motions of taking pics of each individual pedal & describing them in detail BassDirect have pretty good details here or obviously EBS themselves have lots of info & sound clips etc here
  10.
Stuff the basses, what bikes have you got?
Beat me to it
  11.
Wasn't that Jeffrey Daniels?
I think that's all he did - pretty sure he didn't actually sing on anything! Mostly famous for being the guy that taught Michael Jackson how to 'moonwalk'
  12. I thought the, wonderfully named, Leon F Sylvers III played on a lot of Shalamar's stuff (as well as writing & production credits). James Ingram also credited with some bass parts on the Friends album

Some more pics of this little beauty Played it at rehearsal this evening & it just sounds great for funkier stuff
  14.
Buy this CD: Return To Planet Funk. It will keep you busy forever. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Return-Planet-Funk...5441&sr=8-1
Good shout - that looks like a great 'intro to funk' album. All sorts of levels of difficulty and tempos on there from what I can see Not sure if it's on Spotify or not as I'm on a mobile at the moment. Definitely one to check out
  15. How about some JK? here's the previous owner of my Overwater playing it in a much more proficient way than I ever will!
  16.
I can't begin to explain what that collection does to me...each and every one of those basses is special in so many ways. I am rather filled with envy!
Praise indeed from a man with Alembic, Fodera & Sei basses (amongst others!) in his collection
Great taste in instruments Molan - you've got pretty much most of my fave brands nailed right there. Gorgeous!
Which brands am I missing CK - where do I need to go shopping next
Very nice assortment, how often do you play Bootsie? Did you do the build or buy it that way?
The Traben only arrived on Friday and I've been laid up with some sort of bug for a few days so it hasn't been out much at all. Sounds HUGE though, lol. It's an 'off the shelf' item as it happens but I think they are discontinued now. Music Farm often has one on US EBay for about $1,500 & sometimes they throw one out with out a reserve at a lower price to see who they can tempt. . .
  17. You should definitely ask for an 'honest' opinion of what wasn't working for them. It might be difficult to hear but you may learn something useful for future bands. Obviously the main thing to do is keep going onwards & upwards. I failed an audition a while ago that I thought I'd walked (mainly because I supported a different footy team tot he guitarist!) and was initially quite upset because I really fancied joining them. Within a week or so I auditioned for my current band and approached the whole audition very differently and they were super-keen to have me on board almost immediately
  18.

I recognise those feet I have to admit I was really surprised by this MM. I'd never been a huge fan but this one really seemed very nice indeed. Can't beat a black Ray with a maple board. . .
  19. Now I am a serious fan of blue basses - especially Sadowsky ones with maple necks! Shame it's not a 5'er. . .
  20.
Played both of those a couple of months ago, I have to say I seriously considered the natural one.
The natural one sold pretty quickly. £600 was a very good price for a mint condition 5 stringer.
  21. Anyone with a Norm Stockton blue flame MTD is more than welcome any day of the week
  22.
As far as compact, ultra functional basses go (Steinberger XL, Status Streamline etc etc), the Vinnie is one of the coolest. But then they are a niche thing...they're all so cool!
I've tried them all (albeit briefly) and the Vinnie is by far my favourite in terms of sound and tonal options. It's damn near a perfect gigging bass - assuming you can get past the looks you get when you get on stage with one
  23. Fancy an early Patrick Eggle LA Pro from when they were fitted with Seymour Duncan pickups (2 x single coil APS2's & a Jeff Beck Humbucker at the bridge if I remember correctly). It's currently out on loan to my lead guitarist but is very similar to this stock shot pic: Mine is more or less the same tobacco sunburst finish but with less flame on the body - beautiful birdseye maple neck though. Also comes with a nice dark green Eggle branded Hiscox case.
  24. Ok, so I'm gonna sound like a bit of a Spector snob here but having owned Korean, European & US built Spectors there''s a huge difference in sound and quality control bteween the various manufacturing plants. My Korean built 4 string fretless was pretty nasty really. Felt like a 'cheap' bass in just about every aspect from fit & finish to sound, quality of woods & electronics etc. I was really glad to get rid of it & actually thought I'd never play another Spector again. I think the quality control is much better these days but I don't think you can compare a Legend to either a decent Euro or an American built Spector. Unlike someone like Lakland who priduce very high quality basses from their Korean plant. To be honest I don't think the Euro basses really come close to the US ones - an NS5XL is twice the price of an LX5 & it's obviously not twice as good, however, if I could afford to only play US made ones then I would. . .
  25.
nice basses which 1's your favourite
Tough call - I guess the current #1 is the walnut stained maple Spector NS5XL. The redwood one is prettier & more versatile but it's a bit heavy for live work & has a gloss neck whilst the walnut stained one has a lovely satin neck. The Zon has a bit of a 'special place' for me as it's just such a fantastic little bass. I keep toying with buying a 5'er but they've shot up in price over the last couple of years.
