1. I recently bought an Epifani can from Nick & not only was the cab in absolutely perfect, as new, condition but I had a very nice afternoon at his place nattering about bass stuff & drinking tea What an all round nice chap he is
2.
Molan, if you are planning to get over there make sure you put Memphis on your list of places to visit. It's a muso's paradise. You've got Stax, Sun Studios, Gibson factory, Gracelands, Beale Street, BB Kings, the list is endless.
We have that planned for a 2nd trip Fly into Atlanta, over to Memphis, then to Nashville, up through the Blue Ridge mountains, across to the coast, down through Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Savannah back across to Macon for the rock hall of fame & home via Atlanta Gonna take about 3 weeks though!

MTD 635
what strings do you have on that? they are gorgeous btw
Look like MTD strings to me?
4. I took my Kubicki in for Martin to set up once before a particularly big gig (for me anyway!). I gave him a very tight deadline as I wanted the bass back quickly to practice on beforehand as it was my only bass at the time. He called me the day after I took it in to say that he'd recommend a different gauge and make of string to the ones I'd specified as the Kubicki had a seriously narrow neck and he thought a set of DR's (can't remember which ones) would just work much better on it. He even gave them to me at the same price as the cheaper ones I'd asked for as he was convinced it would make a difference. He was 100% right and the bass came back in perfectly set up state and was sooo much nicer than when it went in. He asked me to call after the gig to let him know how I got on as well (which I did). Can't speak highly enough of him and his levels of service
5. I saw the Funk Brothers at the RFH when they plaed here about 4-5 years ago. Great gig all round & definitely the most celeb audience I can remember (outside of an awards show!). I'm seriously thinking of going over to Detroit to have a look at what's left over there & maybe zip down to Cleveland for the Rock museum as well.
6. Thanks Mark, That's pretty much what I thought. It's 'supposed' to play really nicely and the nck looks prefect with very little wear. It's currently residing in the USA so may all be a little bit too much potential risk. I could take cash on the bass I'm selling but there's maybe £100 potential gain if I went for a trade which is what got me interested, lol.
7. I've had a tentative trade offer of a nice looking refin '78 ash bodied Fender J bass in LP blue with maple board. It has original body, neck, tuners, bridge, bridge cover, control plate & case. Has relatively new custom wound pickups & currently fitted with an Audere pre, nice looking after market pick guard & LQ Badass bridge. Approx trade value would be about £1,200 which seems Ok to me but not sure if the refin etc. would mean that £1,200 is the max it would be worth or wether it ought to fetch more. If I go for it then I wouldn't be looking to sell just thought I might try to hang on to a nice older J for a while just to play around on at home
8. That's better Steve
9.
So what about this one now molan ?
I've had a cash offer at the full asking price on it but waiting to hear if it's confirmed or not The Ibanez has gone now hasn't it Chris?
10. Pics of the GB don't seem to be displaying on the porn thread:
Here she is Steve
Gone.

I know I'm gonna sound like a scratched record but I've played this bass &, as with all of Josh's choices, it's a lovely instrument
12.
Sadowsky MV5 Sonic Blue 5 string Jazz bass. See the Sadowsky Porno movie thread its the first bass in there. I have fitted the VTC in this and will sell for £1100 which is a steal.
Great stage colour Sonic Blue - looks brilliant with the good old traditional 'all black' clothes style in a functions band
13. Playing in London at the end of March Not sure whether she's playing a lot of bass live these days? Shame it's a Monday/Tuesday pair of gigs but definitely worth a night out on the town. . .
14. Damn - read the headline of this post and was about to say an NYC Spector or Sadowsky. Unfortunately both are going to 5 times your budget With £300 you're in decent Fender Jazz territory (not USA but certainly Mex & Jap) - that would give you a great standard bass with easy re-sale value if you want to go for something more expensive later
15. Hi Chris, Might be an idea to give an approximate value for your same range in price
16.
You can check my band here. One Love.
Listening to you right now - Welsh dub, good stuff here, liking it a lot
17. I have a stack of classic 70's reggae on vinyl. Lots of 'roots' Jamaican stuff, plenty of dub & quite a lot of lovers as well. Moved up to London in '78 when there was a lot of reggae in the clubs and bars I used to go to. Cost me a small fortune though to buy Ja imports, the best 12" singles were £4.50 a throw - remember this was 30 years ago! Funnily enough I've never really tried to play much reggae myself - although Marcia Aitken's "I'm Still in Love With You" is a pretty comon slow warm up song for me (I'm sure the bass line was from something else but I first heard it on Aitken's song so that's what I associate it with - been used loads of time since of course!).
18. I'm collecting my second Overwater tomorrow & really intrigued as to what it'll sound like. I have an Overwater J bass which I really like. For me it has easily enough of a vintage vibe for my soul stuff and plenty of flexibility from the East pre if I want a more modern zing. Here's what the J sounds like (in the hands of a far better player than me!): The new one is a Perception 5 bolt on which I'm hoping will be my 'go to' rehearsal bass which has to stay at the studio. I did actually buy the J for precisely this purpose but like having it around the house too much
19.
I love it when PL goes to start singing the next verse half way through GM's solo (1.25ish).
Good spot, I hadn't noticed that! Did you see Gary Moore has a broken string?
20.
We are doing the extended remix Gary Moore version with s. l. o. w. intro, which extends it to nearly 7 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzpMBscDNbM
That's my favourite version! Although obviously having Phil on vox improves it (not quite as long though!)
21.
Streamer Stage I rolled onto the P pup... or I might just upset everyone and use my Bolin (which joking aside actually does a very convincing P bass sound). <edit> ...and yes I am using a nice heavy pick!
Don't Believe a Word is my favourite to play - shame the fast version is so short though
22. That is quite a cute colour Of course what you rally need is a nice Status SII not a P bass
23.
I'm depping for a band in 3 weeks time and they do 5 Lizzy tracks... it is fun playing them!
Hope you will be using a P bass & pick for that authentic Lynott sound
24. I've just been watching the L&D show on Sky Arts (for about the 3rd time this year!). However this time I dragged out a bass and a pick and had great fun playing along with some of the songs. I'd forgotten how much fun playing with a pick can be! Still love Phil & the L&D album in particular, doesn't bother me one bit that there were a lot of overdubs after the event
