**TRADED** - 2009 MIJ Sadowsky Metro UV70 4-string Jazz Bass Guitar
molan replied to obbm's topic in Basses For Sale
If it’s the same one (and it looks like plus the weight is identical) then it was one we imported directly from Japan. It was on the wall at LBGS in the year when we had Roger Sadowsky as a guest. Roger explained to me why it was a little heavier than many of his Metro models. Because it was designed to look and feel like a classic late 70’s Marcus Miller type thing, he specified solid body ash to keep that big punch tone these were renowned for. They were a relatively short run and classified as Ultra Vintage 70’s if memory serves me well. At the show Roger was approached by Alex Al who had some shopping issues and had arrived without a bass. At the time he had played with people like Michael Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon etc. He had the pick of all the instruments on our stand and Roger chose this one specifically for him as he felt it the closest representation of a classic/vintage Sadowsky tone and would match Alex’s style of playing. We had maybe 5-6 Metros on the stand and 3-4 NYCs so it was quite an endorsement to have Roger himself selecting it for the live performance from a top session guy. -

I have to say that I can’t rate Will at Bass Bross highly enough. Friendly, responsive, takes great pics of the gear he has for sale, promotes on Reverb with global coverage etc. Payment for goods sold often arrives the same day - sometimes within the same hour as something leaving his store!

I’ve seen the insides of a BF cab, certainly some ‘interesting’ build techniques going on in there 😂

Markbass CMD 121P combo. Loud enough for stuff?

I've gigged one of these many times. Great little tool and a near-perfect combination of price / power / tone / flexibility. -
I watched the whole launch presentation. It came across as very much a trade launch, designed to inspire and build confidence amongst the global distributor base. I’ve attended many similar affairs and they always come across as a bit dry but they’re not really targeting end consumers. As far as the cabs go, anything that reduces weight but maintains tonal integrity is a good thing for me. Where they’re made makes no difference as far as I’m concerned. The Indonesian build quality has always been excellent and, in very general terms, I’d normally opt for quality far-eastern electronics than those manufactured in a lot of European countries. Certainly more eco-friendly to have them made in Europe if that’s where the bulk of sales are (I have no idea of their market by market sales though). Definitely intrigued to hear them when they make their way into UK stores

Classic 810’s tend to be dreadful for on-stage sound - unless your stage area is at least 10 metres deep so you can stand well away from the cab. We used to test big 810s and 610s in the store and measure approximately how long the throw was. A Mesa 610 was about the worst (or best depending on what you’re after). It sounded thin and without volume until you walked all the way back into the next building - then a bloody great low bass sound wave would hit you slap bang in the chest and make your ribcage vibrate 😂

Neither, it’s a standard MarkBass 102P and regularly gigged with little Nano head putting out 200w. The band has 2 guitarists. One with an Orange rig and the other a Mesa. We play loud but controlled. Everything runs through our own PA. It’s also not huge but decent quality. More and more bands are realising that a controlled on-stage environment coupled with a well-managed foh mix makes a much more balanced, and enjoyable, sound for the people that matter, the audience.

Sorry, I don’t agree. I keep up with drummers on large kits with a little 2x10. Using large cabs to drown out other band members is simply counter-productive to getting a decent sound to the only people who really matter - the ones out front
