1. So the new Pro Series basses are officially released now. A few people asked about pricing - they start at around £800. Not bad for a German built instrument
2.
Yeah, but they're all fit.
I take it back, I've seen better in Watford http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/06/28/article-2350515-1A8C213A000005DC-935_634x679.jpg
3.
The compressor is modelled on the MarkBass Compressore, which is a brilliant compressor. I used to have one. If I have time I will upload a screenshot of the control options for ya...
I tried the compressor on the shop's one tonight and it sounded great. Simple to drop into any of the amp modes and very 'musical'. I didn't fiddle around with any of the variable parameters. Just ran it as it came and thought it didn't really need tweaking
4. A Ritter Cora is a rare and beautiful thing whilst Rita Ora looks like a high percentage of girls down Watford High Street on a Saturday night. No contest really. . .
5. Gotta love a Sei - I've liked just about every single one of Martin's basses I've ever played!
6. Andertons is a good shop with a strong local reputation. If they've assured them as being refurbed and with a warranty then they should be 'safe'
7. Depends on the shipping methods. Most larger stores that ship amps will use a next day delivery service. At our shop we use a company that picks up around 16:00 and delivers mid-morning the next day. First class post should be 24 hours but it's not uncommon to take up to 10 days if something gets lost en route. Making a cable will depend on th availability and demand of the maker. If not busy then it could be made the same day and posted registered signed for to arrive the next day.
8. Really quite rare to see one with Joey's signature as well. You sometimes see Vic Wooten signed ones (usually on the control panel cover) but not anything from one of the two luthier partners.
9.
Small compact and does the trick: http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS402BB.html Only thing is the bass leans back quite a bit so with a bass on doesn't save much room but does when it's empty.
I use one of these fairly regularly. Packs down small enough to fit in my gigbag. Not the most stable but I've never had a bass fall from one
10.
I am really pleased for you👍 Couldn't wait to get rid of mine and I know a lot of others felt the same way as well, it is good too see however that the diverse tastes and needs of players are well catered by all the different kit that is now available.
Funnily enough I've not heard anyone complain about the AE series. The AE112 and 210's have always been very popular. One of the easiest cabs to sell because they're in so much demand
11.
Fixed that for you!
Ian Gillan agrees with me : Gillan says Deep Purple are a better live act since they stopped trying to be the loudest band on the planet. The frontman recalls the band's brutal noise levels during the 1970s, in particular the 1972 London Rainbow Theatre show in 1972 which the Guinness Book Of Records confirmed made them the loudest band on earth. Volumes reached 117 decibels that night and there are tales of audience members losing consciousness as a result. Gillan says “We used to be pretty loud, but I think the focus has changed now. The impact of sheer volume was one thing that used to get written up about. The equipment now is so sophisticated, you can have volume without pain. "It’s actually enjoyable. You’re not running around with your ears ringing after the show, like you used to be. There’s a lot more focus on what’s actually going on on stage. You can get involved with that a lot more. I think it’s a vast improvement over what it used to be.”
12. Same with motorbikes. For many years I always 'needed' three: Big ass, shaft drive, super-reliable and comfortable tourer type for my 400 miles a week commuting. Monster engined custom bike for going out with my bike club mates and general fun riding. Very fast sports bike to remind myself why I always wanted to be a biker. Then there was the feeling I should really have a 'naked' quick bike, and my custom bike always needed just one more thing changing and, of course, every summer there was a different sports bike calling my name. I was pretty good and kept the one in, one out system going for years and, as my back weakened the sports bike has now gone but I keep looking at some of the new breed of very quick 'sports tourers' and thinking maybe. . .
13. Jimmy Coppolo produces basses that no-one else quite matches for perfect vintage tone and, a big point of difference against an actual vintage instrument, he makes them with 5 strings! This LM5 is his late 70's, Marcus type, bass. I've played it briefly and it sounded just great, one of he best LM's I've heard. Anyone after a really high quality bass that cops a perfect 70's tone but with added benefit of a 5th string and Jimmy's lovely, musical, active boost pre, should try this out
14. These are excellent gigging basses. Such a shame Carvin decided to pull out of UK dealers this year
15.
Fixed that for you!
Lol, I used to have a 'if it's too loud you're too old' sticker on my bass hard case - then I saw one that read 'if it's too loud. . . you're being an inconsiderate dick' and I started reconsidering my view
16. I always have the volume wide open, sometimes cutting back a fraction on the very quietest songs. I also sometimes use a little pre-amp pedal for volume boost and to thicken tone on heavier rock songs.
17. As mentioned by someone earlier, I simply cannot listen to UB40 without feeling physically ill, such a horrible thin, straining nasal voice. Sting falls into the same category for me. I quite like some Police songs but most of his solo stuff makes me cringe! I definitely have a deep dislike of badly performed 'cod-reggae' performed by, mostly, white blokes. 10CC were maybe one of the worst ever but there's been so many bands that have tried it and it never really works.
18.
Sorry, my comment meant to say (subliminally) "You would enjoy the Bass Player with Sean Escoffery as it is PT from Jamiroqui and he is one funky Bassist"!
Playing his old favourite '66 Jazz into a Jule Monique Dove Cage preamp, Aguilar Tone Hammer TH500 power stage and a pair of Aguilar SL112's - not that I'm an anorak or anything . . .
19. I don't really understand the 'loud' or 'louder than' requirements. It always sounds a bit Spinal Tap to me but maybe I'm just odd! With a 2x10 8ohm cab and an 800w head (therefore running at about 500w) I never need to turn the master up beyond 11:00 and that's against two relatively loud guitarists - one of whom usually has his Vox firing right at me. Any more than that and the bass becomes overpowering and kills the broader sound of the band as a whole. There's always a little bass in the PA and it's properly mixed so that the band as a whole sounds like a cohesive unit.
20.
Says the man who is a partner in a retailer who sell Bergantino! That doesn't necessarily discount your opinion, but it should be noted.
I think you'll notice I'm recommending that the OP doesn't spend his hard-earned money. As far as I know he didn't buy anything from us and there are other Bergantino dealers out there as well. My views on their cabs are based on being a gigging bassist not someone trying to pointlessly flog a cab to the OP. I gig my Berg AE cab every opportunity I can get
21.
As a Newcastle fan I find that a spurious comparison. Some Premiership teams/clubs punch well below their weight but command (undeserved) respect due to their history, and (more importantly), treat their fans/customers with contempt.
I used to know the lovely Mr Ashley - well, to be more accurate I was friends with his wife Linda (who actually was lovely). Never liked him and it's a great shame the things he's done whilst at Newcastle
22.
The OTB500 into one Super Compact will be almost as loud as the same amp into the CN212. Into two it'll be louder. Tone is a matter of personal preference but the other posts here suggest that the "mid table championship" frequently beat the "premiership" on that front too.
I notice you keep saying your cabs are 'louder' than others from quite a few manufacturers. Knowing you're an exponent of listening to things in the 'real world' does this mean you've run proper tests of your cabs versus the competition? I'm sure people would love to see the results of your testing . . . I notice that the odd championship team does indeed punch above its weight in the knockout cup competitions but they always seem to fail at the last hurdle when they come against the classy premiership teams
23. Yep - stop being a wimp The CN212 is in a different league - Near the top of the premiership vs mid table championship. . .
24.
I sold a mint one 4 mths ago (still had plastic protective on) for £120... and it had a T'Bird shape gigbag.
Amazing - I'd have thought the parts were worth more than that
25. I saw some pics of a fabulous Sadowsky custom made for Adam Clayton recently. Burgundy Mist but more of a metal flake than a regular metallic finish. Say what you like about his playing but AC really knows how to pick a pretty bass
