1.
Just purchased a Aguilar DB 410 at 4ohms. Sounds really good with the DB 750. Cheers
There is something really nice about the look of a DB750 sitting on top of the DB410 cab as well
 2. There are lots, and lots, of players whose technical skill really impresses me but every now & then I hear something that tonally just floors me (as per the OP question). The most recent has been Lee Sklar. I was in a pub and there was a music TV channel on in the background. Something came on and one of th very first things I heard was this lovely bass tone. Turned around to check who it was and there was Lee Sklar lurking at the back of the picture. I was with a few band mates and pointed him out and they all stopped to listen - one of them said 'you should buy one of those basses and try to get that sound'. I just gave him a rueful smile. . . I've since bought the album and some of his playing is just sublime, not a flash run in site, just classy playing wih beautiful tone
 3. It doesn't sound like you're having anything done that the Gallery wouldn't be able to do really well. Martin is one of the best luthiers in the country. He used to work on my old one and always did a fantastic job. I'd definitely agree that having an instrument set up in the US and then shipped back is a bit of a false economy as being bumped around in transit and the extremes in temperature can effect the set up a fair bit - although some instruments survive really well and can come out of the case sounding great after a trans-Atlantic flight.
 4. Best live sound I've ever heard was a DB750 into a pair of Aguilar GS410's - overkill for most gigs these days but sounded so nice. I've used one with a pair of DB112's which I liked a lot and also a DB410 which I preferred but simply couldn't carry it any more
 5. Great for rehearsing - stick a pre-amp pedal in front of one of these and you're away
 6. I know these are expensive but they sound absolutely wonderful. I was able to try one when they first came out in the USA and was only kicked off when Daryl Jones wanted to try it:) Fantastic recording amp and well worth a try if anyone is after a truly classic tone!
 7. I gigged one for a while and really liked it. Being on wheels really helps. Might be worth checking the speakers are original as they sometimes get replaced. I think the 10" was prone to blowing so it might actually be good to have a better driver in place.
 8.
You mean other amp manufacturer's handles break?? Surely not!
Any of the grab handle types will wear out over time. My Euphonic had been gigged a lot by me & the stitching on the leather handle had started to unravel. It was still perfectly usable but by OCD nature meant I wanted a smart new one. I offered to pay but Euphonic just sent me a free replacement. The SWR & Eden were both 90's cabs that had seen a lot of wear and had surface damage. The other one was actually Ampeg & not Aguilar and that was even older than the SWR & Eden - it had been sitting in a garage unused since the mid 80's and various bits had rusted up & were looking tatty. I'd expect stuff to start wearing out & showing damage after heavy use over many years but it's great when the builders want to help by replacing bits & bobs for free rather than charging and/or causing a fuss
 9.
It's too late, I've found the thread On the plus side - special deal coming for BCers as soon as our StringPing BC account gets authorised
Great minds think alike - BassGear signed off on their BassChatter's special discount prices as well today Details in the affiliates' forum
 10.
That is a good deal! I think the string winder/cutter is actually the D'Addario Pro-Winder. We use them all the time - they're actually really good.
That's correct - standard retail on the twin packs is £29.99 at most dealers that stock D'Addario & comes with the red 'limited edition' pro-winder. Available in 45-100, 45-105 & 50-105 only
 11.
Yup, I've had two replacement handles from EA no quibbles
Those EA handles are good quality leather jobs too
 12. I'm quite missing my old one of these at the moment - mine was the same colour but had twin Lane Poor pickups and a funky Randy Hope-Taylor inlay at the 12th fret
 13.
No manufacturer has ever offered me a new handle because the old one broke but I read that Alex has offered to replace broken handles FOC. I call that supreme after sales service above and beyond the call of duty and still people have got it in for Alex. I just don't get it!
Only just spotted this - I have to say that in all honesty every manufacturer that I've contacted about damaged or worn handles has sent me free replacements. Euphonic, SWR, Aguilar and Eden from what I remember
 14. From our initial listening experience I'd say the S212 is a very clean & clear sounding cab but it's not sterile or harsh like some modern lightweight cabs can get. As I kinda said earlier, there's a real focus to the tone and individual notes ring very clean and true. It will start to break up if pushed hard at the lower end but not in a brittle way
 15.
Noone would buy a car thats 50 years old and pay double/triple what it was worth new because of the fact that as things get old they break. I just dont get it!!
I used to own a 1958 Oldsmobile that was imported into the UK at £32,500. I kept it a few years and eventually sold it back to the dealer who promptly sold it to someone in Cannes for even more money. One of the big attractions was that it was almost completely original except for obvious things like tyres and break pads.
 16.
I like tall stacks I've noticed the power handling on these though... I wonder what sort of volume they'd kick out if I threw everything my hartke had at one... Hmmm....
We had a top pro player in today checking out the TKS cabs at some serious volume - literally making the roof shake so little bits of dust were being dislodged from the ceiling tiles. The 'official' vote was that they were definitely able to handle serious gig levels
 17.
The threshold on import duty is £135, with no charges if the duty amounts to less than £9. This only works if the gift has a declared value of £36 or less.
I've definitely paid import duties on stuff from the USA with a value of under £135 Edit - Actually it was VAT plus handling charges rather than customs duties. I'm pretty sure I got hit for just under £30 in charges on a purchase of just £80. Something like £20 VAT plus £8 handling.
 18. My current band is very social. We always go for a drink after rehearsal and natter about all sorts of different stuff. Different members see each other more regularly than others but we all see each other outside of the band environment from time to time. As a group of people it's probably the most social of all the bands I've been in and I really look forward to meeting everyone each week. I definitely feel it makes us play better as a band and we're all really supportive at both rehearsals and gigs.
 19.
I'm wondering how 2 x S212 would compare to my Berg NV610....
They'd be a lot lighter
 20.
Oh FFS... the last thing I need is cab GAS.. good thing they aren't green like these or I'd be in trouble.
They could be for just £50 extra per cab. . .
 21. I also struggled with GK amps for ages but someone helped set one up for me and it was really nice. I always find Orange to be a very love or loathe sound. It you like the time it's nice but if you don't then it's all a bit one dimensional. Personally I don't get on with them at all but their fans really rate them.
 22. I've tried a broadneck and found it almost unplayable Huge neck width was just way too much for me I'm afraid. Definitely a try before you buy option I think.
 23.
So about £455 for an S112 with grille cloth, tweeter and any of the standard vinyl options. That's more than reasonable!
and you should see the snakeskin vinyl
 24.
Same question on the S212 please.
Standard is a rather frightening £529! Tweeter £75, grille cloth £80, custom vinyl £80
 25.
How much are the S112 cabs going for through your store Barrie? PM if needs be :-)
Standard S112 will be £329, tweeter adds £75, vertical configuration is £5, grille cloth £50, custom vinyl £50. Turnaround is expected to be around 3-4 weeks but will depend on how many orders are going through at any one time
