And this one keeps calling my name but I'm trying my damnedest to resist its charms. . . It's actually a slightly mintier green in the flesh and looks even more delicious

I haven't used them but I have had a good look at their range at MusikMesse and spoke to the guys there and they seems very well made and robust. Pricey at around £90 for the Adam but looks like a very good little unit!

New Silver Sparkle Colour on Musicman basses...even the Bongo.
molan replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I love a nice sparkly bass Mind you, my gold Lull makes this one look a bit tame -
It's a shame you're not nearer to us - we've got a nice NYC that you could have a good try on to see what you think of them. Personally I like them a lot, especially the narrow nut Will Lee, but the NYC's with really nice tops are getting very pricey now. Great gigging basses. Always seem to sit really nicely in a band environment. Not as much low down punchy growl as your YYS though

Classic Motown must be pretty much exclusively a P bass. Raise your budget a shade to £600 - £700 and you're into a decent used USA Precision Standard. It should sound reasonably authentic and they're really easy to sell on if you don't get in with it. Might be worth looking for one with slightly narrower nut width option as a classic P with a 1.75" nut might feel like a boat If you're moving from a 6 string then round wounds will feel more natural than flats (just wind the tone control all the way off) and maybe look at lighter gauge strings like 40 - 100's for comfort. You can play most Motown and funk with a pick and try palm-muting for a nice 'dead' tone.

You're just getting old -
As a long time Aguilar and Bergantino user I have always bought their branded covers and, in my opinion, they are of much better quality, more expensive but worth the extra money. This time I needed something for my Barefaced cab and I ordered from them, bad luck I've had so time to look somewhere else...Any other good cover manufacturers out there, please?
I think both of those two make really nice padded covers. They fit well, offer decent protection and even fold down nicely without getting tatty quickly. I've often wondered why Barefaced don't offer something similar. I'm sure they'd sell well. Mind you, with all respect to Alex, I think his cabs are very much designed with sound in mind rather than looks so maybe it's an area he's not as concerned about

Appearance of you and band on stage - clothing opinions?
molan replied to Diablo's topic in General Discussion
Totally agree on the 'making an effort' stuff. Every band I've been in has had some sort of clothing ethic. I always think people should know you're 'in the the band' and haven't just stumbled in off the street -
I have to admit that I really don't like Roqsolid covers. The ones I've seen have fitted their designated cabs pretty well but I've always found them a bit 'basic'. Ok as dust covers and maybe to protect from really minor scrapes but not in the same league as the ones some of the major cab builders sell to go with their cabs. I've always thought it was a 'you pays your money and you takes your choice' kinda thing - my money has always gone elsewhere

Quick update on the BL46's. I went through the buying process online to get an accurate price for a new set and it came in at £72 after taking into account shipping, duties and clearance fees etc. Pretty good price given the quality of these! Mine have literally been fitted once, tried and removed but, given the cost of new ones, I'll make mine £45 and include UK postage

Two members of my band use them all the time and have never had problems

I really, really don't like stringing through a body so loose ferrules would seriously annoy me! It won't be the shop's fault but they should offer to fix them for free. I doubt they'd give any additional compensation though because it will have arrived that way from Fender and I don't know of any shop that would remove the stock strings from a bass to check if the ferrules were properly seated.

I think USPS tracking basically stops once it hits the final airport destination in the USA. It doesn't pick up that it might already have hit the UK and got bogged down locally here. If there's duty to pay then Parcelforce will post you a confirmation and this can easily add a week or two to delivery time. For small items I've pretty much given up on USPS because it's got way too slow over the last year. One of our suppliers insists on using them and we've had some 8-10 week delivery times for pickups and parts
Pretty sure we've had this discussion before... USA is a bigger market and there is more competition, so lower prices. Mark Bass gear used to be the same price in $ as it was over here in £.
Plus the size of market means volume purchases are higher and greater volume almost always means lower pricing (for a host of different reasons). Bulk shipping to and from the US is way cheaper than low volume shipping inside Europe too.
Great condition this is in. I have one I'm yet to intergrate onto my setup. The distortion is super gnarly and the clean sounds are really Tubey, nice and thick
The nicest thing is that you can use both tones independently and then combine them at the tap of a foot switch
