  1. I think in this case it was a delusional fantasist that set up the tour. Goodness knows how he even managed to catch a flight. Glad the venue's pre warned others but it doesn't do the local reputation of the venue any good that basically any delusional idiot can book them for the night regardless of whether they're capable of carrying a tune in a bucket. And I'm sorry but a foreign act you e never heard of with loads of Facebook likes (irrelevant if all those likes are abroad/ not around your area) and you've not checked them out before letting them book the venue?? Bit of due diligence required I think!
  2. Off topic, but very pleased for you, Matt. I was laid off ten years ago along with some close friends and i know first hand and from seeing how others struggled that your outlook and attitude on these things shapes so much more than just what next job you get. Glad you've got a happy story there, made me a little warm inside!
  3. We have the odd discussion here about social media, whether to get payment on the door, dodgy venues etc. I thought you'd all enjoy this story: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife/rock-band-creates-fake-fan-2204472
  4. I don't quite understand the question but I have a lefty hipshot D tuner on my Mexican jazz. The only issue was that the tech needed to grind away some of the side of it to make it fit next to the other tuners.
  5. Forgot to add... A proper set up can change everything. First time I had a proper set up done I never looked back, I had never played with neck or saddle adjustments so didn't see what the fuss or expense was about. It's like having your car serviced and you hear a little less engine noise, brakes and accelerator are a little more responsive and you notice that immediate difference. It can increase the fluidity of your playing, make the neck and strings feel totally different, it's well worth it!
  6. In the days before child arrived my basses sat out on stands. Some were beautiful flame maple tops, others a jazz with the ashtrays on, a cricket bat Hohner... It was part of my personality in the house. When I split with my ex and my flat became a bachelor pad the TV was moved aside for my basses and amp. Having nice basses was decorative, and part of how I wanted people to see me. I hadn't been in bands for a while. Now I'm in a busy gigging band, happily married and have a small child I've got four basses in cases under the spare bed. My latest acquisition was a Sire to test out a few config things for if I eventually get a custom build... That's a pipe dream though. I don't need an expensive custom build, I can't buy a vintage investment bass because I'd be scared to gig it, and when you see your MIJ precision face down in a pool of cider at a function you know a Sire or similar is what you should have taken instead. I reckon there's a weird relationship between whether I'm in a band that's doing something and whether I lust after aesthetically brilliant gear, or whether I just want something that I can accept will get bashed about but achieves what it needs to.
  7. Rootmaster 1x15 and Rootmaster 2x10. I had two 1x15s at one point and preferred that for me and my sound. I occasionally gig with just one cab too but prefer to take the full stack out
  8. Is it too trebbly for home practice or in the band mix... Or both? I dont use that bass but I find I crank the treble a lot with the band to cut through a bit.
  9. I understand I missed the boat on the first wave of Sires at less than £300 but I think the pound has taken a dive since then. Also, when you compare to what else is available at that price range not complaining with the £500ish I paid for my Vintage V7 lefty five string a few months back. There's no way I was getting ash body, maple board, decent active EQ, five string, left handed, at that price new anywhere else. It has become my main gigging bass which I didn't expect either, I bought it to see if I'd get on with certain aspects of the bass with a view to ordering something higher end later. I recognise some parts could be better, particularly the bridge and tuners, but they are hardly the rubbish that comes on a Westfield for example, they are functional.
  10. Used my RM500 set up on Saturday night to play outdoors for the fireworks display to 3-4000 people. Amazing sound and clarity, easy load in and out. Sensible easy to use EQ, DI, I changed amps so much over the years but I don't think you can beat the Rootmaster range without spending a considerable amount more. They've nailed what a gigging bassist needs IMO.
  11. I can't comment on build technique but they look simply lovely. I like the jack input hidden at the back too. No clutter, just great woods nicely shaped. Given unlimited funds to buy whatever basses I want I'd have one of these.
  12. Being left handed and playing on cramped stages from time to time the headstocks of my basses are always smacked in to guitar headstocks or cymbals. They never end up looking too healthy regardless of how well shaped they started off!
  13. A complete beauty of a Rick: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F362474887867
  14. Probably. But I've bought enough shite in the cheap end of the market that I've been scared off Mooer and Behringer but I am from Yorkshire so there's no effing way I'm spending more than £100 on a single-effect pedal. I can be a bit of a "brand snob" but only a bit... So I do have faith in Boss, EHX, moreso than the cheaper brands and I'm wary of brands I haven't heard of. When I was starting out though a £20-£30 useable pedal would have been very welcome.
  15. I don't think cheap pedals will kill off the big and established names. Hopefully it makes them up their game, push to innovate more and make me want their new pedals and sounds. Then there's the price point issue, will it mean Boss for example does a cheaper range to compete with Behringer, or are the margins so low its not worth doing to them and they don't want to degrade the £80 per pedal position of their main brand? Either way, I'm glad there's cheap pedals about. If my multi effects experiment fails I can buy my missing bits off the cheaper end of the market for experimenting. And of course BC has enough good quality reviews of things the second they hit the market!

    Bass soul food

I liked it but ultimately moved it on. I generally like a clean bass tone with grit coming in from open tone and the finger attack. I felt that in my set up the soul food added some good drive to the high end but wasn't there in the low end.... Like I say, in my set up and for my playing style, others may coax something else out of it. I use drive as an absolutely not subtle "here is the heavy bass" or to thicken up the sound under a solo, I couldn't get it to suitably do these for me. I preferred its character a lot more than the EHX bass blogger I used to have.
  17. Some good info in here... In theory, if the OP wanted to gig this amp would a speaker upgrade and some carefully placed holes cut out the cab help, if done by someone who knows their stuff? Or is there more going on than that making it a costly but pointless exercise. I genuinely don't know much about Amps. I just need an on button, rotary knobs for volume and a big speaker that goes louder than the drummer.
  18. Andertons are advertising them... Whether that's pre order or in stock I'm not sure
  19. Lefty on gumtree... Wishful thinking on price! https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/left-handed-fender-bass/1318793773 "Open to offers over £1,000" I bet you are!!
  20. I'd stay away. If someone spends over a grand on a bass then they know the difference between a P and a J.
